Bucky is bougie, aka Bougie Mammoth Bucky, a high maintenance 3 year old colt gelding, but since he's been there, he's been on nothing but their grass which it's good grass. Grass and hay quality are extremely important for your horse(s). Becareful in choosing a place for your horse(s). I have zero worries with him being at this facility. Had a very rough year not able to get out there like I need to, and it's very comforting to know he's well looked after. In saying this, this facility isn't a high maintenance looking facility, but in saying that its natural beauty speaks for itself and meant for the wellbeing of your precious horse(s). Southern Cross is absolutely beautiful from the moment you pull in the drive you know it's a special place. We checked in at the main house and drove over to the barn where my family and I were able to meet all the horses love on them a little, meet the doggies and just take our time. When it was time for our ride we went and got the horses ourselves, brushed and loved on them, got them dressed and ready all by ourselves my kiddo was a beast picking up that saddle and carrying it she did fantastic!! The people guiding us were so nice letting us know what we needed to do and when but letting everyone do it mostly themselves. I loved it and ended up bonding so well with my horse, Borris. He was an absolute love bug and when I go back I hope I can ride him again he's the best! My kiddo had Troy and my husband had Amos who was gorgeous! We even got to see a mama and baby horse my daughter was smitten! We had such a great time and it was a relatively easy ride with no large drops or tight places. We rode through a creek which I thought was the best part of the whole ride hearing the horses hooves splashing through the water was so cool! Even my kiddo who has only gone riding one other time before loved it and is already planning her next trip back! Definitely THE place to go if you love trail riding and beautiful scenery. They cater to beginner, intermediate and advanced riders. If you love riding or want to try it for the first time this place is the best check it out!!

They have about 100 horses and do a fantastic job of caring for the horses and property. They rotate the horses that ride in order to give them plenty of down time to rest and enjoy. It is a family run business and they make you feel so welcomed. They offer various packages on your stay. You can choose bed and breakfast, all three meals and stay, or two horse back rides a day and stay. Each room comes with its own bathroom and everything was comfortable. You feel like you are coming home to your mom's house. Horse back riding was around 9:15am and 2:15pm each day. Meals times change per season by was 8am, 1pm, and 6pm. Food was good and unlimited soft drinks and tea. If you want to bring alcohol, they make available refrig to store. They also have a kitchen in the main house that you can store your items needing refrig or frozen. You can walk the pasture and/or hang out at the barn. They welcome feeding behind the fence as well and have food for you to feed the horses in the barn. The riding was great, they have you saddle up the horses and still give you about two hours ride time. Beautiful property. Depending on your riding ability they let you go on your own to ride too. It was such a wonderful stay and plan to be back again for another visit in the future. This was the highlight of our trip.

Dr…read more Barrow is not my normal vet but when I had an injured horse at nearly midnight last night and my regular vet was working at an emergency center and could not come out, Dr. Barrow was more than willing to help. I called 3 other places before her that I had known other people that had used them and all refused to come out because we did not have a previous history with them. She didnt even hesitate when I called her, she came right out and took excellent care of my baby. Her bedside manner was wonderful and this morning my horse was 100 times better than the night before. With the exception of a little swelling you wouldn't even know he looked so horrendous the night before. She left me with some pain meds to keep him comfortable and instructions on aftercare. We finally got too hot and quit, opting to do our own self guided tour. It was Sep--so not even peak heat times for Georgia--and I could feel my skin burning from not enough sunscreen like I was a vamp without my daylight right. It didn't really give you street addresses, just GPS. It would have been much easier with both, as much as possible. Maybe all of that could have been handled with better knowledge of the GPS options and apps on my phone, but I and my two teenage kids kept thinking we each knew what we were doing better than the other two. Finally, there was a mutiny and I had to abandon my "fun, easy" tour after half an hour or so. Instead, we walked around the square and then got addresses online for the other locations we wanted to see. Maybe if we had purchased the driving tour we would have been happier, but after shelling out money for the abandoned walking tour I just couldn't see spending that much additional money. I've done the Vampire Stalkers tour years ago and next time I'll book in advance and take my daughter on that one. We live close by, so it's not a big deal.
