If you want a good workout in nature that isn't too daunting, this is the place to come. When I was a little girl, there were no formal, well-kept trails at this park and the cave, 8 miles in length and #280 on the list of the world's largest cave systems, was closed. So, imagine my delight when I discovered the cave is now open for tours. The guided tours are an hour and change and worth the $18/person. You only go into the cave about 1/4 mile and there are two guides with you along the way. The day I took the tour, we had Marley as our lead guide. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the cave drawings and very entertaining in her presentation delivery. The 20-person group I was with were all listening intently and laughing along to some of her light-hearted jokes. The tour is great for children over 4 and not dangerous, but you do need good shoes and a strong flashlight. As for the trails in the park, they can be challenging depending on the direction you go, the shape you're in and whether you're hiking or trail running. At one section, the trail leads you out into a beautiful field that is especially green and luscious during the summer. It can get super toasty in the sun, so bring water and sunscreen. I highly recommend you visit this park and if you're into caves and history, do consider the tour. You won't be disappointed.

Now it's a clean, shaded walking, running biking path. The city of Clarksville turned the old railroad tracks into a walking path with a bathroom. I usually start at the Mary's Oak parking lot entrance and run to the bathroom. It's exactly 2 miles out. There are clear distance markers along the path. There's another parking lot at the bathroom area. They have bikes you can rent there. I have been down further past the bathrooms and it's absolutely gorgeous that way. A couple of steep hills keep me off that part of the path. Have seen deer, bobcats and tons of birds and squirrels, Sometimes I have found cute painted rocks here as well. Bravo Clarksville!

Two areas for playing- one side for toddlers and the other for older kids who can climb without needing help. There is a basketball court, pavilion, restrooms, plenty of sitting areas and benches. The park as a little creek running through it with 2 bridges on either end, and a walking path that encircles the whole thing. The creek isn't very deep, maybe knee high? So no scary situations if you let your little one wander around it. My oldest (7) spent the majority of his time at the creek playing with rocks and sticks. (Nature lover at heart ) Perfect little park for strolling through a nice park and letting kiddos run around, or having a little picnic on a sunny day!

There is a playground for kiddos, a barbeque area, clean bathrooms and tons of green lawn on which to picnic or frolic to your heart's content. Do watch out for geese/duck poo as it is everywhere around the pond. Small price to pay for the opportunity to come face to face with a mama duck and her little ducklings. Dragonflies will fly right on up to your nose and turtles will wink at you from their log perches in the pond. Parking is free and there are bikes for rent, too. Great place to get exercise, fresh air and relaxation.

You will not be bored and there so many ways to hike this place. It's completely up to you if you want more uphill hiking or leisurely strolling by a stream. There is also an opportunity to rock-skip and play in the stream, but be careful as it can get slick along the many rocks. If you are into disc golf, there is a whole course set up here that will provide you with fun and tons of exercise. The trails for mountain biking look like lots of fun. I don't personally have the skills to tackle them, but if you do go for it - just look out for lots of roots in the trail. As for wildlife, you got your deer, your rabbits, your birds, your squirrels, your possums, your wolf spiders and your armadillos...yes, armadillos! (do not try and approach them as they carry leprosy). The new nature center is lovely and welcoming, there are picnic tables scattered throughout the park, a play area for the kiddos that is unique and shaded, and the bathrooms are kept clean and well-stocked. Just a wonderful, fun place to explore and be out in nature with your family or by yourself. Be sure to bring a camera!
