It said that these cakes were a local speciality of Sesimbra, so of course we had to go in and try some. When we walked in, the place was filled with people hanging out. I'm not sure if this place is a bakery, bar, coffee shop, or all of the above. We ordered two farinha torrada cakes to go and ate them while walking back to our hotel on the beach. O. M. G. This stuff's DELICIOUS!!! Very chewy like a blondie, and chock full of flavor. I did some research online later on farinha torrada, and turns out it dates back to the 19th century, when fisherman from Sesimbra village used to take these to sea because they were dry and durable. I guess it began as a home remedy for ailments like constipation and cough, too. The cake is made of wheat flour, eggs, chocolate, brown sugar, cinnamon, and lemon zest, and it tastes absolutely scrumptious!! I went back again the next day to try to buy some more, but they were all sold out. :(
Yummy!

'. But we walked on without knowing. A few hours later, walking back to the hotel, we went by where the line was ending and saw/smelled the most amazing croissant bakery. I said, 'We gotta go stand in this line right now!' Hubby, tired, had to find a washroom. So I stood in line, got this huge, hot, crunchy, amazing strawberry jam filled delight and spied him coming back down the street. For a second, I considered zipping out of there to stuff my face with it so I wouldn't have to share. But he saw me - too late. Pro tip:. Everyone get their own croissant or there's bound to be trouble here.

It is part of the Sonae group, owned by Belmiro de Azevedo, which also owns a lot of other companies in Portugal, such as Optimus (the equivalent of Orange in the Uk). This is just a copy of every other Modelo in the country. The only good thing is that this seems cheaper than the rest and it has its own brand, which makes it even cheaper. The food is of quality and the workers are friendly. This is no Lidl, it is moderately cheap, it has quality and it is a good choice and source of knowledge to the foreign tourist. Remember if you see a Modelo go in, don't be afraid, it is cheaper than many other supermarkets.
