Lianmei Salon is located in downtown Toronto Chinatown. I decided to add this business to yelp.ca because I was just that satisfied with my cut! The salon is located on the second floor, is clean, and is stocked with the usual salon equipment (barber chairs, shampoo stations, etc). The two female stylists (one main and the other assistant) who did my hair spoke English, Cantonese, and Mandarin and were very polite and conversational (we spoke in Mandarin, though).
I'm an Asian girl and had medium-long black hair. I got it cut very short and dyed red-brown. It ended up something like this, but a bit shorter and a bit more red: http://www.hairstylestrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/11/8-Japanese-Style-BOB-hairstyle-in-2009-winter-5.jpg
I was very pleased with my experience because the stylist listened to my requests and followed the pictures I brought. At the same time, she gave her own opinion about what would be good for my age and face shape. Overall, the process took 2 hours and included wash, cut, red dye, wash again, and style. The stylist told me the dye would last about a month at full colour, then fade into a more natural tone and stay that way (it was permanent dye). No one tried to push me to buy hair products, which is always a plus.
Cost of my cut: $45 (there's no actual tax, but you have to pay in cash - gave a $5 tip, too, so the total was $50).
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a website, but here are some of their prices as listed on their business card:
Men's hair cut - $7
Women's hair cut - $7+
Men's wash, cut, and set - $11
Women's wash, cut, and set - $13+
Colour - $20+
Perm - $25+
Straight perm - $60+
I hope this review was informative and will help you when deciding on a salon. I don't get my hair cut very often, but when I do, I'll be sure to come back here! : ) read more
