My house in Albemarle County needed a new roof so I solicited bids from three contractors. Gary @…read moreVanguard Roofing was by far the quickest to come visit my house to see my needs. During the visit I particularly enjoyed Gary's in-depth evaluation of my current roof and how he would avoid some of the pitfalls in its installation if he were to replace it. Unfortunately, the other contractors took up to a month for their visit, which delayed my decision. Eventually, I chose Vanguard in no small part due to my experience with Gary. While he had left me some shingle samples after his initial visit, I chose to visit Vanguard's office in Madison to see more samples and discuss options with him. Originally, I had considered a shingle roof though I ultimately chose a metal one because of its appearance and durability. I also requested new skylights, gutters, and gutter guards. Gary warned me that while my roof could be replaced with a shingle one in a couple of days, replacing it with a metal roof one might take up to a couple of weeks. I was concerned that an intervening rainstorm might result in water leaking into my house after the shingles were removed but before their metal replacement was in place. Gary assured me that the water barrier that he'd install immediately after removing the shingles would prevent that. That assurance was severely tested as there were several significant rain and snow storms during the installation period. But there were no leaks. Ultimately, it took about five weeks for the installation due mainly to the snow storms that halted installation while we waited for the snow and ice to clear. Finally, the installation was complete and the roof looked great! The gutters looked pretty good too though I didn't like how the new black gutters interfaced near ground level with the white tops of my existing, mostly buried drainage system. I pointed this out to Gary during his final post-installation inspection and he responded that he wanted me to be happy and would make it right. A day later, one of his people returned and extended the black gutters completely into the ground, interfacing with my existing system below ground level and out of sight. Now the gutters looked great too! As nature would have it, the following spring we had a significant storm that dumped 1/2" hail on the roof. (We rarely get such storms.) Other than a lot of noise there was no damage to the roof and it continues to look great. There is no "oil-canning" anywhere on the roof that you sometimes see on other metal roofs. So count me as a very satisfied customer.

This morning, Vanguard Roofing graciously responded to my call for help on a comparatively small…read morebut time-sensitive project. All eleven gutter downspouts needed extensions to direct the water flow from days of rain further away from the foundation. Vanguard Roofing sent two men out to determine the best way to solve the problem. Within three hours they had both professionally, esthetically and cost effectively remedied the problem. If I should ever have a future need for roofing and/or gutter repair, Vanguard Roofing will be at the top of my list to contact. HY

Blue Ridge roofing…read more This company owned by Jerry Bach and his son Jeb Bach was the installer for our new metal roof. We worked out the details with them ahead of time to get the right dates and times that would work for us on changing our room from a shingle roof to a metal roof Jerry did all the preparatory worked and came and saw our house and came up with a contractual agreement showing us all the things that we would need. He also worked with us on the snow guards as we live in the mountains. He also helped us with a gutter system. It was designed in Sweden to handle large volumes of water and melting snow. When knew all the total cost ahead of time. We signed a contract with all the details in place Jeb are installer came and kept me up-to-date. We lived out of town at a second home and he would send me photographs and call and text me and give me updates. He would also ask me questions if there were decisions that need to be made on the go, Jeff was unbelievable and stay in constant contact with me to make sure that the job was done correctly as well as my wife and I liking. When we were visit the house, they would make absolutely sure that we could access the house and kept their equipment and trucks and positions. It would allow us to get in and out when we had to come and go. They were extremely considerate about their workspace and their tools in terms of us entering and exiting the house. They would also pay extra attention to detail such as keeping the property clean from the debris, cleaning up each day and removing all the extraneous materials from the ground and property for safety issues as well as for cleanliness The craftsmanship of our very complicated roof, which had at least five or seven different sections required a lot of on the go, mechanical decision-making on how to design the roof and put it together. Jeb was an expert in that area and made every effort to make the job look fantastic as well as to make it functional. At the very end of the job, Jeb made sure that the water would not affect our mulch or flowerbeds or other parts of the house, but also helping us design exits for water to move it away from the house Jerry, who is the owner was always available to help with changes that needed to be made or other issues. He kept me informed as well as Jeb of the progress. After the project was done, we reviewed everything in detail and my wife and I were very satisfied. The roof was absolutely beautiful. The gutter system was amazing and the entire installation went well with very little issues. Of course, we had to contend with rain and some issues that slowed things down, but the professionalism and the architectural design was fantastic I would highly recommend this company to anyone for the roof replacement!!!!!!

Corbin came to our house and inspected inside & out and acknowledged the problem, then promising to arrange remediation through the manufacturer. He called back one time to our request for an update. HOWEVER, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY FOLLOW-UP. He acknowledged a problem but after five months has not responded. One company said they couldn't even do an estimate until the end of June. Another came out and said I needed a new roof. Rooftop is well known and well respected in Charlottesville and they said they would send someone out the next day. If it was in fact a small job, they would just complete it. If major, they'd give me an estimate. True to their word, two workers appeared the next day and were quickly up on the roof. I heard hammering in an area other than the one I knew about. They told me there was another small area that was missing and the workers quickly repaired both and were gone. Price was very fair and I would use them again without question.

Background: we paid Cornelius 700.00 for yard work, over a period of two months he would give us one excuse after the other for why he hadn't gotten started. After we requested a refund he revealed that he no longer had our money so we agreed to a July date for repayment. That day came and went and Cornelius blamed us for not giving him more time. He lied to us about using our money to rent lands saying equipment to do our yard work and he has been mute on what he actually did with it. I informed him that we would be going to court and he was really nice about it stating "you won't get any fight from me". Well I showed up, he didn't and when I asked him about getting another address to send the summons too he got angry (see screenshot). I don't understand how he presented himself as such a good guy and then showed no remorse about just taking our money and skipping out. I even told him that I'd saved that money to use to get the yard leveled so we could install a playset for our two year old. I saved money the VA gave me while going to school so I could do something kind for my child and now I'm just heartbroken because this man took advantage of us and just doesn't care. Good luck if you still choose to use him.

The company seems much better equipped for lawn care and maintenance.* I hired Christian to cut and remove a magnolia tree, remove several shrubs, and haul away the debris from two pine trees I had cut down over a year ago. Christian's quote came in at a reasonable amount after he reviewed the scope of work, and in line with what my previous (now retired) arborist had quoted me. He quoted me a short timeline to start the work (7-10 days), and after a short reasonable delay due to inclement weather, his crew was on site the next week to cut and remove the magnolia, and remove shrubs. They completed most of the work in a day, with three shrubs unremoved - and I was asked to pay for the portion of the work completed (which I did, under the stipulation that the amount paid included work not yet completed, and I was assured it would be completed the next morning). The magnolia tree accounted for the bulk of the quoted estimate, and after the removal and the sent payment, the following problems began to arise: the shrubs paid for were not removed (at time of writing, our contract is complete and paid in full and there are still three shrubs remaining), I was left with minimal contact and no schedule for completing the remaining work, when contacting Christian regarding expected schedule I was given reasons about equipment wear/tear on landscaping (the work was eventually done manually with no equipment brought in), I was asked to pay an additional amount as a premium for the crew working in summer weather (which I did, because the crew does good work), I was told equipment would be rented and brough in to complete the work efficiently and it never was, and the job was eventually left unfinished due to underquote. When working on removing the pine tree brush eventually started, everything was going well, and after the second day (bulk of the work), and a premium for the workers being active in summer weather (something that should have been managed through the use of half-days), Christian returned to me that he had underquoted the work, suggested that I had possibly hidden the nature of the scope of work (I had clearly stated on his inspection and quote there were two felled pines, with one 28" stump visible, and 8-10 remaining pines still standing as examples to their nature), that the remaining balance be paid in full, and that he would be unable to continue further work unless the remaining work was requoted. On this, I agreed to pay the remaining balance again stipulating previously paid work had still not been completed, and when asked if I was happy with the work, I disclosed that I was not (taking into account the scope of work as a whole). - I cannot recommend Christian's Lawn Care as a professional service for tree and shrub removal. - I can say that the Christian's crew is hardworking and do a reasonable job of cleaning up completed jobs (e.g. the magnolia tree) - I cannot recommend Christian as a proactive and professional who will communicate schedule and work updates clearly and in a timely fashion - I cannot recommend Christian as an adequate appraiser of the scope of work for tree and shrub removal and the quotes produced for such work
