The Northeast Regional Library serves the four Northeastern Mississippi counties of Alcorn,…read morePrentiss, Tippah, and Tishomingo. They are all different and unique in their own ways. The Alcorn staff are very stern and do not allow loud talking and are very firm when asking you to end your computer session. Whereas, Ripley staff let children run total butt-monkey-stupid-crazy and allow people to talk loudly on their phones and even let music play on their phones aloud without headphones. Established in 1951, the Northeast Regional Library is the second oldest regional library system in Mississippi. It is comprised of a headquarters library here in Corinth and twelve branches. Several larger branches including Corinth, Booneville, Iuka, and Ripley, have separate genealogy and local history collections that are available for in-house use. U.S. Census records on microfilm are available at several branch locations as are journals on genealogical research, passenger lists, and more. The upstairs of the Corinth Library is set aside for genealogy and I believe you still must be 18 years old to go upstairs. Through a grant provided by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, most branch libraries have one or more computers available for public use, Corinth has a half dozen minimum. All computers access the Internet and contain the Microsoft Office Professional suite of word processing and Power Point programs. Northeast Regional Library offer free wireless Internet access. The service is available 7 days per week, 24 hours per day. After hours the wireless connection is accessible from the libraries' parking lots and elsewhere on library grounds. The service is offered at Corinth, Booneville, Iuka, Ripley, Baldwyn, Belmont, Walnut, Blue Mountain and Burnsville Libraries. Meeting rooms of various sizes are available for use by the public in several branches of the Northeast Regional Library. Fund raising events which are held solely for the support of the library (such as Friends of the Library book sales) may be held in these rooms. Other events not benefiting the Library or charging admission can't be held at the Library. The sizes can vary from having the ability to hold from 50 to 100 people and they all offer kitchens or kitchenettes. Each summer, the Northeast Regional Library sponsors a Summer Library Program to encourage children to continue to read while they are out of school for the summer. 'Friends of the Library' support an individual library by holding book sales, hosting programs, and helping to publicize activities being held at the library. You can find many good books and even some very old books during these sales. I got 4 decades of National Geographic magazines, dating back to the 1960s for free, because they were taking up space the library needed for other purposes. All branches have music CDs, Movie DVDs and some locations have VHS tapes available for check out. Sometimes you can find entire full seasons of TV shows on DVD.

It is a library - yet they have more just 'archaic books on a shelf'. They have a growing computer lab, 60+ computers last I checked. With these computer labs, come various computer classes from the elderly to coding for children. They have a children's section and a pre-teen section so you don't have to run around looking for books that you might enjoy. The children's section is actually behind an extra set of doors for added security. There are secluded study rooms, numerous audio books and the latest DVDs that the library receives all the time. No reason to use a Redbox when this library has the latest and greatest movies. This library has also kept up with technology. You can reserve your items online, and then you will receive an e-mail once it comes in and they will hold it for you. Not only that, but say you want a book that they don't have; simply request it online via their 'order form.' I have actually done this needing a certain study guide. The book came in a few weeks later, and I received an e-mail stating it was ready for pickup. Couldn't ask for more - all for 'free'.

I don't understand how this Library is for ALL Military personnel let alone, Active Duty Service Members yet WE are not allowed to use the resources that we should be using. If it is a TV series season of DVDs like Friends Season One, you can check out that season set of DVDs for two weeks. DVD library is extensive. Some of the DVDs are the latest DVDs set out in RedBox except they are free to check out. The library book selection is not so big, but I have no complaints. I am very happy with this library. I love watching Japanese anime and horror movies. One of the perks of this library is the free books and items at the entrance. They, also, have lots of fun and free activities for children. I don't have children, yet I think parents should take advantage of such services!

They have a little bookstore here where they sell donated and old library books to the public for 50 cents to about $3 I believe. I get most of my books from here. They also have large sales a few times a year so check with them when those are!

I have moved a lot in my life and therefore been apart of a lot of libraries and I have NEVER been treated like this by freaking library staff. They berated me for putting books into the book drop off and going in and getting more books at our other library it wasn't an issue and they acted like I should've known better I wasn't told that they only check it certain times and there was no paper saying we only check the box at X times. I have 3 small children so it's difficult just getting out and I have fond memories of the library but how I have been treated the last 2 times (the only two times I have been in there) is ridiculous.

I love libraries…read more Sometimes, late at night, I find myself organizing my stuffed animals in accordance to the dewey decimal system. Libraries are so organized. So sterile. So quiet. So full of think-i-ness. I mean knowledge. Remind me to take "think-i-ness" out before I post this. Laugh if you want, but the Florence library is awesome. Nice building. New building. Lots of places to sit in comfortable chairs and read. Big windows. Thought-inspiring quotes everywhere. And the librarians are bitter idiots. But that's true of all librarians. One of my favorite features is the reading room. Walk inside, and you find yourself in Sherlock Holmes' living room. Wood panels everywhere. Greek columns. Newspapers and magazines out your saggy butt. I want to sit and smoke a pipe while I read in there. They also have a entire wing devoted to gynecology. I plan to spend a great deal of time in there. Did I say gynecology? I meant genealogy. Honest mistake. Thanks. spellchecker. Not my least favorite feature is the coffee shop, the disgustingly cleverly named "Coffee-ol-ogy." Coffee, sandwiches, and all sorts of snacks. The 14-year old behind the counter asked where I was from when I asked for a "drip" coffee. "No one around here calls it a drip," she quipped. I then beat her senseless with the cappuccino maker. But don't expect to pay three bucks for a sandwich, a luke warm Coke, and sashay into the library. Nosiree, Mr. Fresh-Ground Paris Pants. No food or beverage in the library. So you have to sit in the lobby and enjoy your meal. Bonus - free wi-fi all around (I suspect they've blocked myspace). Five stars for this library. They're open until 7 most nights, which gives me just enough time to stop by, order a "drip," and Yelp like mad.
