Lewy is the best dining experience I've had so far in Potsdam.
First and foremost, the wine selection is top-notch and very well priced. Almost all the choices on the very well-balanced menu are appealing, unusual, and available either as a small taste (0,1L) a full glass, or a half-liter (perfect for sampling several among friends, for about 8 to 13 EUR each). I'd be hard pressed to name a wine bar of this quality in Berlin.
Appropriately the food menu (which blends specialties of the South Tyrolian Alps with contemporary twists) offers both inexpensive snacks to complement the wine and heartier main courses. Of the former, expect generous portions of schinkenspeck (a smoky ham) and herbed cheeses with a crisp summer wine. Of the latter, the daily specials menu is far more enticing than the listed mains visible on the website; on one recent visit we tried an impressive handmade rabbit tortellini with asparagus sauce, and a less exciting roasted chicken leg with risotto of finely chopped potatoes. Neither came quite as described on the menu; the potato risotto was missing the chorizo which might have rounded out a bland dish with more richness and flavor. And portions were slightly disappointing for the price (12-14 Eur). Still, it works out as a good value, as few restaurants with food this creative also offer such affordable quality wine.
Dessert in anything other than sweet wine form is a non-event, but there's a great ice-cream shop around the corner. Service is well above the average for Germany.
One note on the atmosphere: I can only recommend this place on a warm day, when there's a free table out on the sidewalk. Space indoors is quite limited, and marred by bland suburban design and the sound of radio pop music. read more
