This visitor center has a lot packed in it. There's information about the dam, Lewis and Clark, and the wildlife in the area. There is a lot of activities for children too, including how quickly someone can put on a life jacket, to dress up activities. There's some exhibits missing (related to the Native Americans), but I'm sure they're being reworked to be more culturally sensitive. There's a very impressive taxidermy exhibit. There's also viewing balconies to look at the dam and the water. It's great to people-watch the people on the water. There's a small gift shop area that sells postcards, books, and other goodies. We love carving out time to head here with the kids. It's fun to cross the dam and then easy to get to up the hill. IT's free to enter, and there is quite a bit of fun and interactive history elements. There is also a lot for the kids to do and explore. There are great views of the lake as well as the river. Just on most recent stop we didn't even go into the center, we just utilized the park and covered picnic table area. It is a little dated, but the staff is young and super friendly. Learning about the army corp is super fascinating to me, and the whole dam system, it's very informative. read more

The Visitor Center is just a short drive from Gavin's Point Dam. If you've been there in your life then there is no reason to go back. Except maybe for the views of the dam. Nothing has changed in at least 20 years. I don't think they even have cleaned their outside viewing areas. I just wish this area would try harder on the government run attractions. read more
