The park which hosts the courses is a beautiful park with a couple of great views of Lake Michigan & the seclusion in the park is great. One thing about the course being on the water is that there is traditionally quite a bit of wind. Because the course is shorter, there are more deuce holes than not, but there is also a little bit of trouble that you can find yourself in. The course has a good variety of shots, good signs & a good overall layout. If you're an advanced disc golfer, try the beast or the Goliath (unless you want all 3). If you're looking for an easier task, the Beauty is a great course.

Amy was great to work with...with a great sense of humor and was very adroit at suggesting places to get ice; a.bite to eat etc. She was like the magical hotel concierge you luck out and get when all.of your travel plans are falling apart. We loved the campground. It had direct access to the Betsie River, showers and bathrooms were very well.maintaimed a clean...hot water was never a problem. There's Frisbee golf and horseshoes available..firewood was a generous amount for the money. There's 400 acres of state land to the north directly abutting the property. Mostly trailer and tent camping ( we had hammocks and were allowed to choose the spot we liked with the best trees for setup). They do have a canoe and kayak livery that currently only operates on weekends. I rarely gush over a business that doesn't bring me hot delicious food and cocktails...this is an exception to the rule. Hands down one of the best camping experiences. I have been disperse camping the last few years in order to avoid people and some of the issues that come with group camping ( loud drunk ppl...fascist property managers etc) this was about as good as family camping will ever get and the location is incredible. There's a very clean Mobil gas w a pizza place about 2 miles from the campground...and plenty of activities in all direction. Thank you so much for helping make our fishing trip camping headache free and amazing.

Golf and crafts…read more The Red Szymarek Park was purchased by the city of Manistee in 1912 and over the decades has become more and more popular. The park has a nice picnic area with lots of tables and grills as well as a simple playground, bike rack and some easy hiking paths. In 2009 a disc golf course was installed and has become extremely popular. Since the entire area is covered with large trees it's well protected from the sun. In the summer and fall the park is home to lots of arts & craft shows as well as animal rescue events. Usually attracts pretty large crowds and because of the rustic and scenic location is a lovely area. The Red Szymarek Park isn't particular large but it's not far from the Manistee beaches and other parks. A cool place for individuals and families to spend some time.

Water hazards come into play on a few holes (can also be a pro). I lost a disc in Lake Michigan on the lighthouse hole while goofing around :/

Playground equipment for the kids, lots of benches to sit on so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and shipyard. Yes, the shipyard was pretty cool to us Iowans. :) The park is also on the Wisconsin Maritime Trail, as the wreckage of the steam barge 'Joys' rests off of the shoreline. Great walking trail. My husband is an avid disc golf player, so their disc golf course left A LOT to be desired. I don't recommend it at all, but definitely check out the park for everything else including tennis courts.
