Please make an informed decision before choosing this agency. They are a small-time outfit lacking…read morethe resources or business wherewithal to communicate in a timely manner. They do not value customers because they lack clear communication: a baseline requirement. Their lack of urgency also added zero value to my insurance process. Imagine, you are buying a car on the morning of Wednesday, December 24th. You call your insurance broker, Sarah, and leave a message. You check their website and Google; both say they are open. You send a follow-up email: "I'm at the dealership; I need the insurance updated before I can close the deal." Radio silence. No out-of-office messages. You check the website and Facebook again; both say they are open. You call back; the recorded message says nothing about holiday hours. That is four separate indications of the business being open. After several follow-up calls to Sarah, you try the owner, Dan, and leave a message. No response. The dealership finally says, "We cannot complete the deal without updated insurance." You send Sarah a high-priority email before leaving the dealership, stating your ability to purchase the vehicle has been hampered. You ask for an acknowledgment. Radio silence. Two days later, after four more emails to Sarah with no response, you head back to the dealership. The website says "Opens at 8:30 am" for Friday, 12/26. You call again; no one picks up. You are now at risk of losing the vehicle; it has been almost 72 hours since your initial outreach and there is still no response. You call local competitors: RSC, Fraleigh & Rakow, and Marshall & Sterling. They are closed, but each of their websites CLEARLY indicates holiday hours. Their phone trees are accurate. One broker you email has an out-of-office reply with detailed instructions. Every single competitor did the bare minimum of properly portraying if the business was open. Not Pleasant Valley Agency. Now imagine, as a last-ditch effort while sitting at the dealership, your wife finds Sarah on Facebook and her account shows as active and online. Your wife finds this account via public portrayals of her as a broker for Pleasant Valley Agency where others were thanking her for insurance. Sarah finally responds: "The office is closed." She passes the buck, suggesting you should have called the insurance company directly: "Your insurance person should have told you you can call them directly if I'm not available." Sarah is the only person at Pleasant Valley Agency I have ever had contact with; she never communicated this. Despite the appearance that Sarah's Facebook account is interacting on behalf of the Agency, Sarah then tells your wife, "This is my personal Facebook page... I'm trying to enjoy time with my family." I wanted to enjoy my family, too, but instead, I spent three days reaching out without a peep. Then a funny thing happens: within minutes of the Facebook outreach, the agency's Facebook page finally updates for 12/26: "We're closed today." It's strange they didn't post that on Wednesday the 24th; it reeks of CYA. The website still remains unchanged. What is the purpose of a middleman broker who is unavailable and then tells you to take the conversation direct? Why wait through 72 hours of silence? Ultimately, I spoke directly with the insurance company and resolved the issue myself. What value was Pleasant Valley Agency providing? NOTHING. Sarah and Pleasant Valley will no longer be my Broker/Agency of Record. I recommend anyone who values their time stay far away. Recap: 1. Inaccurate Information: Do not trust their website, phone recordings, or Google listings. They only update hours on Facebook after the fact. 2. No Professionalism: Business owners and brokers should use out-of-office replies. This entire issue could have been avoided if they provided indication of office closure and next-step instructions in an automated message. 3. Blaming the Customer: Agents will deride you for reaching out via publicly associated social media and blame you for not knowing you could bypass them. 4. Middleman Inefficiency: The value of brokers in NY is opaque at best. You shouldn't need a middleman taking a cut and elongating the process only to provide zero support. If you require a nimble, forthright agency, GO ANYWHERE ELSE. Do your homework!
