When it comes to my hair, I can be a bit picky. The way I see it is I'm stuck with my haircut until it grows out (about two weeks). So once I find a barber that works with me, listens to my constant variations, keeps on time appointments, I'll stick with him. As long as Dimond is cutting here, I'll keep coming back. I got my haircut from Ricky, made an appointment on the same day. Usually, I get a high-top fade but decided to get a temple fade this time. The haircut time estimate was about an hour, but he finished it in about 40 mins and it still came out on point. When I need to look my best and look sharp, I always visit Nick Galindo. I highly recommend him. The quality of service is equivalent to a celebrity getting a haircut. You can set up an appointment with Nick on their website. The shop is located downtown across from the food market. Parking is metered for only an hour. Bart is just a short walk as well. They have projector screen while you're waiting and everyone at the shop is friendly. I suggest asking the different barbers about their styles and look in you're interested in a change. This barber shop is a gem located in Old Oakland, close to 12th Street BART station and around a lot of cafes, restaurants and local shops. Same day appointment made and got a perfect high fade and lineup done by Nick. I have a small bump on my neckline that he was careful to ask about. Disappointing all around. Nick Cantu was my barber for a same-day appointment. I was looking forward to my haircut given Nick's demeanor on the phone was positive. My haircut was a $65.00 experience riddled with poor effort, injury, and disappointment. The poor experience began w/Nick using a brush inappropriately and proceeded to poke my eye with it. Next up when laying me back in the seat to do my neck line, he yanked me down without any forewarning. He then proceeds to leave visible straggler hairs behind my ears, the back of my neck, and beard. Lastly, he ends the session by brushing cut loose hair onto me after having taken the cap off of me. I ended up having to instruct him to clean things up. And he had the audacity to exasperate in frustration as if it was me to blame for **his** sub-par haircut. This is the most I paid for a haircut and it was arguable one of the worst customer services experiences I have ever had. Avoid both Nick and this barbershop. A strong manager would be doing quality assurance of the work of each barber to ensure satisfactory work and some level of standardization. read more

I really loved my haircut by Ethan, who did an amazing job with my buzz/undercut. I'm a queer Asian, so I'm very selective of hair stylists, since not everyone knows how to do queer/Asian hair well. I appreciated Ethan's professionalism and creativity. Being my first time visiting Levels, I wasn't sure if Ethan could recreate my original haircut. He made a good effort to check how I'd like my hair cut and styled. I had tried the Level's barbershop in Berkeley and had a decent experience so I figured I'd try this one closer to home. Originally had schedule a haircut at 2:30pm, got a text earlier in the day asking to reschedule at 3pm. Okay no problem. I get there right at three,check in with someone and then was told to wait as the barber was "finishing up". Then I proceeded to wait for 30 mins. No one came to check on me. No one came to update me on what was taking so long. No communication what so ever. After waiting so long with no service, I walked out. Then I received a text that my appointment was canceled-boy they sure rushed to communicate that! Would not recommend this location due to inept communication. read more

The barbers at this shop take their time every step of the way. I've been getting cuts from Nick G. for awhile. He takes his time with fades and is precise with his scissor work. Highly debating if I should put the barbers name on this review because I know how much that effects each barbers livelihood...so I won't. Never really felt the need to leave bad reviews for hair cuts. But if I'm paying 45 dollars for a hair cut, I expect it to be at least decent. The cut was awful. Should have known booking the only barber (last minute) available before thanksgiving was a terrible idea. I asked for a pretty basic combover. 2 on the sides and a taper. Pretty generic since every Asian guy gets a comb over. When the barber started buzzing my sides and back I started to notice his razors going higher than what my regular barber would normally do. I didn't give it much thought since I was paying 45 for the cut and assumed it couldn't be that bad. When he was done, it looked pretty decent so I tipped an extra 5 and was on my way. When I got home and got ready to go out. I did my hair and realized this guy shaved ALMOST AN INCH HIGHER than what it was. He literally shaved an inch into the long hair I had on top for my comb over! BOTH ON THE SIDE AND BACK. Why the hell would you not follow what was there already and stick with that!!! That's like basic barber 101! Now the back of my head looks like a short ass buzz cut and won't go down with gel because it's too short! The side where I comb my hair away from is about 3/4 inches in. Absolutely terrible cut! Now I have to spend 2-3 months growing that inch back out. read more

ANTI-VAXXERS! Unfortunately, my haircut was about halfway done when a barber went into a full anti-vax rant. My barber tried to talk him down but he was obnoxious, loud, and proudly unvaccinated. To top it all off I got a terrible, patchy fade. I asked him to fix it once but was tired of sitting around breathing droplets, so I didn't ask him to fix it again. I booked a cut with any staff barber and was lucky enough to get Diamond. He lives up to his name, he's a gem. When he swiveled me around at the end to reveal his work I was honestly amazed.
