We are not mall people, but this was a treat to see how malls differ in Switzerland from that in the USA. We were able to freely roam about the mall, taking in a beautiful assortment of stores, all displaying their goods in a tempting way. There was a national book fair going on so different areas of the mall were displaying books in interesting ways, all enticing in their own right. We were also able to inquire about railway options for our trip to Zermatt the next day, a helpful kiosk to offer advice and tickets if needed. We bought some nice items that are unique to Switzerland and found some wonderful books to bring back home.

When I step in here, it reminds me as if I am home in the US all of a sudden, so you know it's the real deal. There are tons of stores in here for shopping and also a good sized area for food with sushi, Thai, wraps, Italian, sandwiches and coffee. There are many various clothing and accessory shops, and even has an official Apple store here, which was quite useful for me! The bus that comes here runs often (94,787) to transfer to tram 9 and also there is a huge parking lot for those who drive; so it's quite easy to get to if your starting point is around the HB.

It's a huge department store in the city center of Zurich with floors of everything from fashion to food. I only visited the food department which is located on the lower level so I can only describe my experience there. There are rows of foods from around the world and a large section of wines from around the world. They also have a decent Swiss wine section. The cheese humidor here is worth just popping into. It had the most amazing variety of cheeses from around the world. The fresh produce is also of the highest quality. There are a handful of restaurants in here serving cuisines from different parts of the world. We visited one called Nippon Sushi and the chef there made us an Omakase menu comprised of the chefs selection of sushi on the day. It was amazingly good and super fresh. You can lock me up in this place and throw the key away :-) an exquisite place to visit, browse and have a meal :-)

I'm glad I found a Groupon for a fantastic meal for two. Afterward, I went across to Mövenpick to sample a variety of red wines before picking out a lovely bottle from Chile. It's self-service, so you can pour yourself whatever you want to taste from all the bottles on display. At the register, I suddenly remembered that I had some UBS Keyclub points to redeem, so I was able to knock off CHF 20 from the purchase price. Awesome. Then I went upstairs to the always busy m.a.c. cosmetics counter, but a sales associate was quick to help me with my purchase, and then I was merrily on my way. Always an awesome experience at this upscale department store, but be prepared to shell out some big bucks.

It was so much fun to walk along and window shop at all the stores they have built into the Viadukt. I especially loved the indoor marketplace they have. Which is the first indoor market in Zurich. Based on the website they also have space for community events and offer tango classes. So cool! Cool factoids: The Viadukt was planned in 1875 and built within three and a half years. In December 1940, the viaduct was bombed, and until 1941, it was part of the longest continues bridge construction in Switzerland.

The rest of the shops are interesting too. They are tucked into the arches of the historic stone Viaduct. It's really charming. There is even a little car parking if you need it, but pretty much everyone, including us, comes by tram, and we saw some on bicycle. There is a #13 tram stop right at the edge of the Viadukt. It is not a large shopping area, and there was no outdoor market the days we were there, but there are several specialty shops I found interesting and would probably use if I lived there. There was a full Lolë store which I have never seen before. I like their women's clothes and find a smaller selection at bigger stores in the US like REI. There was also some trendy younger styles featured at the Roxy/Quicksliver store. There was also a nice store for bags, one for menswear, one of kitchenware and my favorite, outdoors wear with a small selection of gear type items. The salesman was very friendly and pleased to hear we were from Colorado, as he carries some items from local manufacturers right near Boulder, our home. The shops seem mostly for locals as we found this area to be less fluent in English than most of the places we went in Zurich, but they were also some of the most open and friendly.
