I had never had a dog before so when I decided to get my first ever dog, I did a lot of research on breeders to ensure the best possible experience. I am SO PLEASED I went with Susan of Let's Talk Yorkie and I would 100% do it again if we ever decide to add to our family (in pup form of course!)! I initially had checked out the Let's Talk Yorkie website and had been following her Facebook page for about a year before I reached out to her. It is obvious she cares so much about her puppies and the homes they go to after they leave her care. She asked a lot of questions about what you are looking for in a dog and tries to match you with a puppy that matches those qualities based on what she observes in the first few weeks of their lives. That being said, I liked that she doesn't breed until she knows she has homes lined up for them to go to. While I found it difficult to be patient, I understand why she doesn't let the fur-ever homes know their puppy is available for visiting until they are of a proper age and are cleared by a vet. We visited our puppy around 8 weeks of age in Susan's home and were able to meet Ollie's mom & dad, which I thought was so cool and so helpful in understanding what our puppy might be like when he grows up. Susan allowed us to visit with him for about an hour and answered any questions we may have had. She was terrific at providing all kinds of pointers & recommendations by not only answering our questions during that visit, but by also providing printable documents and continually being available to answer questions via e-mails, text messages, etc. We were able to bring our Ollie home at around 11 weeks old complete with health/vaccination records and fun little goody bag. Since bringing him home, he has brought such joy to our lives and we can't believe how lucky we have been with this little guy! He has been practically PERFECT which we feel is a direct reflection on how he came into this world and how Susan treats/raises her puppies. i mean i didnt get a puppy from them although i did make an attempt. i filled out an application. i have memory issues so i apparently filled out 2 applications forgetting i already did one. instead of maybe mentioning it or asking me why i was told im obviously too anxious to get a puppy and she dont think im the right fit for them but good luck. I figured since im from nyc and they are it would be easier but after the experience with them id rather get a dog from across the country than deal with their stank attitude. read more

After giving Susan all the information about myself and what kind of yorkie I was looking for she more or less tells you that you might not be the right person for one of her yorkies. She wants all the information from you (which is ok) but then dismisses you when you have a certain preference. When you tell her what size your prefer, she comes back and says she can't guarantee any size or weight. Well I know you can't give an exact weight down to the ounce but if you are an experienced breeder you should more or less know what your females produce as well as the males you are using as studs. I felt as though she wants you to beg her for one of her puppies and you should be greatful if you are lucky enough to get one. I am not going to beg for a dog from anyone especially when I am the client paying thousands of dollars. She is very independent and that's ok, because there are plenty of breeders out there. read more

I was on the phone with "Susan" all but 5 minutes before I hung up. Not sure if she's the owner, but she really shouldn't be speaking to customers. From what I remember of the conversation, she babysits Yorkies, and once in a while she will breed her own. This is more like a backyard breeder/Yorkie day care center. She doesn't have litters that often, which is fine. She didn't have any puppies when we spoke. You can't have females pregnant after every heat. I wanted to replace one for my mother who is headed to hospice down the road and her beloved Yorkie passed last week. Find another place, this person doesn't know how to converse. You are evading the point that you never got back to me to tell me where I stood in line to receive a female yorkie. You could of said 6 months, 1 years or however long. Do not purchase from this woman. I contacted her regarding getting to know a breeder and purchasing a yorkie. She did not sound friendly and wasn't happy to answer questions. I tried to get information from her regarding her dogs, she mentioned how long her waiting list was and people should wait for their dogs. I told her I have a pitbull and she very rudely said "Um no that is not going to happen. Susan is an amazing and knowledgeable breeder, who loves all her puppies as if they were her kids. She provides all her puppy families with her 24/7 availability when needed. She is always quick to answer your questions and concerns. Yes she has a lengthy screening process for her puppies, but that's exactly what a good breeder should do. Susan is far more than just a breeder, she's a puppy match maker. She does not allow you to pick your puppy but instead takes her time to understand what you are looking for in your puppy and to match you with the best possible fit. Be warned that she will ask lots of questions about your lifestyle but this is only because she is protective of her pups and wants to ensure that they are going to the best possible home. Her house is kept very clean and her dogs are all very healthy, well adjusted and beautiful. She loves her dogs and clearly spends a lot of time with her puppies in their crucial first weeks: when Winston came home he was already going directly to his training pad and has surpassed all of my expectations with every new experience. Being our first puppy, I was very thankful that Susan held our hand through the whole process. She educated us about many of the concerns and responsibilities of dog ownership and provided advice on how to prepare our home for the puppies arrival. She also emphasizes that she is there for the life of the dog and has offered invaluable solutions and advice to all of our questions and concerns. Susan has a stellar reputation (as well as her dogs) and I can not recommend her enough. I was really saddened by my brief experience with this breeder. We have a 6yr old yorkie who is adored and part of the family and as I have had to return to work, I've begun looking for the right "sibling" for her. She is well socialized, but like any dog, she likes some dogs over others and it's important to us to find the perfect fit. I researched breeders in driving distance to start our search and contacted this one. I opened the dialog complimenting her puppies, sharing a photo of my own and starting the conversation on finding a good fit but I felt very dismissed. Their replies included "you have a lot of work to do," a simple "ok," to "go to my breeder" (who is no longer in business, hence my search). It felt rude, condescending and dismissive. I wasn't met with any questions, friendliness, or feeling that they had any interest in speaking to me or pursuing talk of adoption. I obviously can't speak to their dogs as we never got that far, but I think an approachable, friendly and conversational breeder is a critical relationship. I posted this same experience elsewhere and was messaged by them "good luck finding a breeder" and that I was not good enough for her puppies because I did so. read more

I called up looking for a new Yorkie baby and left a message. Our beloved girl passed away last year and felt it was time to get a new puppy. Susan called back and mentioned she didn't have any puppies at the moment. I was going to end the conversation right there since I had two other breeders to call. She started asking questions before I had a chance to say thanks and hang up . She wanted to know details about my family. She told me this wasn't a good idea since I had four children? They were going to feed her garbage and maybe not care for her properly. Meanwhile, she has pictures of children younger than my kids on her website, one in a superman outfit, one of a toddler, and a group of young children holding her small Yorkies. I told her my kids were older, and were used to having a small dog since they grew up with our pet who passed. My kids horseback ride and play golf. Also, I told her our Yorkie was 15, and they were all around her when they were babies. They cared for her and it was a good responsibility for them. Anytime she asked a question and I answered she would pass a comment. I don't know what was going on with her but she wasn't nice and just downright rude, and I had to end the conversation saying I needed a puppy in the next few months and if she didn't have any puppies down the road it didn't make sense having a conversation, and it didn't seem like a good match anyway, especially after this conversation. There are other Yorkie breeders in the area who are more personable and down to earth. We are working with one now. This was just a weird experience. We got our first yorkie from a breeder on line. While we loved him to death, he was not the one we picked out. He was supposed to be about 6 pounds full grown (he was 12 pounds when we lost him). Make no mistake, he was loved and spoiled rotten. Due to a tragic accident, we lost him at 4 years old. I was absolutely heartbroken. Within a week, my husband realized that I needed another dog. I was sure that no one would think I was a suitable fur parent because we had lost him so recently. My daughter called Susan and I ended up talking to her for over an hour. Yes, she asked A LOT of questions but these were her babies! The puppies were not going to be ready for about 4 weeks but she kept me informed the entire time. She was very concerned about picking just the right baby for us and our lifestyle. Finally, we went to pick him up and I can't tell you how impressed I was with his environment. I was able to meet his parents plus several of her babies. It was wonderful to see how he interacted with the others. When we got him home, I realized how different this experience was from the last one. He was very confident and not afraid of anything. His personality I'm sure is due to the love and attention he received as a baby. We have now had him for just over a month and couldn't be happier. Susan is always available for questions.
