I am astonished this hotel is part of Oceania Hotels Group, and is being sold by booking.com…read more The hotel is filthy. Rooms smell of sewage. Elevator is dicey. I should have known when I had to pay, in advance, something was wrong. The photos posted must have been taken years ago because they are not accurate now. The only bright spot in this abysmal place is a lovely young lady called Annabelle. She tried her best to help me. I hope a wonderful hotel chain or high end hotel scoops her up. She would be a valuable asset and is totally lost in this hotel which reeks of sewage. Of note, the manager Celine Pariente has challenged my review with Oceanus Group stating we were upgraded at no additional charge and she stated the smell was gone after the first night, which is absolutely false. Also Ms Pariente did not take into consideration I booked a Superior Double Room with Twin Beds however we were given a room with one small bed. I went downstairs to determine why and was told there was a plumbing issue so the accommodation I booked and prepaid wouldn't be available until the next day. The lovely staff member on duty, Annabelle, offered the Deluxe Room because it had a larger bed at no additional cost. The photos are self explanatory. Every time we entered our room the smell of sewage assaulted our nostrils. Of note, the first room we were given the toilet didn't flush. On our second night we returned from an amazing tour of Cassis and Aix en Provence to find the elevator wasn't working, this was 730pm. My friend's birthday was June 3 and we were to have a celebratory dinner but canceled as climbing 4 flights of stairs would have been extremely difficult for us. Instead we went to a nearby restaurant and enjoyed a lovely meal. We were pleased to find upon our return from dinner the elevator had just been repaired, in fact the elevator technician was still on site at 11pm. I paid extra for a buffet breakfast for both days and informed them I am a Celiac therefore I must be Gluten Free. At our first breakfast a lovely lady presented me with a GF roll. With our second breakfast we were met by a sullen young lady who growled when I asked for hot water for my tea. Needless to say I didn't receive a GF bun. Lastly, the hotel is dirty overall. At one point she must have been a Grand Dame but currently she is past her prime and suffering from extreme neglect with current management.

The…read moreproperty policy on booking.com stated that "All children under 6 years old stay free of charge for extra bed". When arrived at the hotel, the manager said that we have to pay 20 eur extra for a child's bed. When I pointed out, that according to their policy it is free, the manager started to argue. She said that I am wrong, they have no such policy, according to their rules extra bed costs 50 euros and she makes me a very good price. I showed her booking confirmation where policies were stated in English, but she doesn't speak and understand English. When her employee read and translated it to the manager, she continued to argue and told that it is stated wrong in English and in her booking confirmation in French there is no such policy. Then her employee read her booking confirmation in French and said that it has the same policy. The manager's response was that it is Booking.com's fault - they mixed everything up. We didn't want to argue anymore and agreed to pay the extra amount. So, though there was somebody's fault, the problem was "solved" at customer's expense, which, in my opinion, is unacceptable for reputable hotel. After this case the hotel contacted Booking.com and policy regarding free bed for children was changed. 2. The biggest problem of the hotel is the manager, who not fair and argue all the time. 3. The manager who rules the hotel DOES NOT SPEAK AND UNDERSTAND ENGLISH, so if you have any problem it will be hard to talk to the person. 4. The toilet bowl is set-up somewhat 10-15cm higher that standard, so that when you sit on it your legs do not reach the floor. Believe me it is awful! 5. The room and everything in the room is tiny. The washbasin "fancy" glass, but extremely small, so it is really uncomfortable to use it. 6. Pillows and blankets are cheap polyester.

Booked the Sainte Valerie Hotel for my honeymoon after reading the great reviews. Was weary of some…read morerecent poorer reviews but was still excited for my upcoming stay. We arrived at the Sainte Valerie before check in time, there was a lot of commotion in the lobby area and things seemed a little chaotic, but the staff were very pleasant. Finally we were taken to our room, which we had booked as a double executive with a balcony. The room we received was a ground floor room, with no balcony, and overlooking the parking lot. Not what we had envisioned for our honeymoon stay. We tried to see if another room was available but everything was completely booked. The staff said they would refund our room and we left to stay somewhere else. Upon leaving, I wrote down our email address and they promised they would send a receipt with the cancellation and refund. A day later we noticed we had been charged the full balance of the room at the Sainte Valerie. After trying to get in contact with them for 5 days we finally received an email letting us know that they couldn't refund our room due to us booking on booking.com. Problem was, we didn't book on booking.com, we booked directly through the hotel. So day after day we tried to remain in contact with the hotel to resolve the issue to no avail. Finally we had to just deal directly with our bank since the hotel never got back to us after saying they would. Would have loved to give the hotel the benefit of the doubt that it just wasn't what we were looking for in our honeymoon stay. However, after the hassle of trying to deal with the very unprofessional staff members, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
