Every once in a while you go someplace that exceeds it's marketing hype. We stayed here for 3 nights and I tell you, this is one of those places. First clue: The restaurant has 3 Michelin stars -- and well earned. Truly exquisite service. I can't think of a restaurant that has had better, including other multiple stared Michelin restaurants in France and Portugal I've been to. And the food, oh man, classic and modern and fresh and local and amazing all at once. I had multiple courses, but the mushroom medley in parsley cream sauce was all by itself beyond delicious. Our room, the "Secret Garden" was absolutely fabulous, the grounds beautiful, and the spa, my second ever "thermal baths" spa, couldn't have been much better, totally blowing away my Calistoga spa experience in Napa, California. I've been to a lot of wonderful places around the world. Many I would return to if I happen to be in the neighborhood. This is one place I will make a point of returning to, no excuses necessary. Tips: We stayed in " Le Couvent des Herbes" building and so can only speak to those rooms. Ours was beautiful, with a to die for bathroom. One note, its an old building with thick wood beam floors upstairs and we did hear the neighbors above us stomping around at times. If this bothers you, I suggest getting a room upstairs if possible. read more

Although the property is best known for the three Michelin star experience at La Grande Cuisine Étoilée du Michel Guérard, staying at Les Prés is a must-have experience. It is difficult to explain quite how excellent Les Prés d'Eugénie is as an inn and hotel. It's an old world experience that seems to primarily be known only by folks in France. Having the experience of finishing your dinner and simply going upstairs to your room is wonderful, and something not to be missed. Overall, the staff is very attentive and helpful (about half of whom speak excellent English and the other half who knows how to refer you quickly without pretending). Your every need will be satisfied (if for a price). For example, we wanted an afternoon snack on the day we arrived. Despite the kitchen being closed, they whipped up several platters of small bites for us. The grounds are exquisite with beautiful gardens and walks. They have a medium size exercise room with nice up to date equipment and a heated outdoor pool. They have some bikes and helmets you can borrow -- and although they aren't in perfect working order they do allow for some leisurely riding around the nearby countryside. The salons and other common areas are out of another era, with decor that is alone worth the trip. Beyond that, we had some complexities in our stay that were handled well and without complaint. For example, our rental car broke down and the mechanic came to look at (and ultimately tow) our car in the middle of the night. The staff took care of everything while we slept. read more

An exceptional dining experience in an absolutely beautiful countryside get away. I wish everyone could come to Eugénie-les-Bains just to breath in the fresh air, soak in the thermal waters, have an experience of a lifetime eating the cookings and master workings of Chef Michel Guerard. Our first meal consisted of salmon, mousse, beautiful steak, duck and on and on. We were guests in the hotel, so had dinner there almost every night. It is worth he experience, and I feel as though if you want to really have a lasting memory of luxury and fine dining, this is the place. read more
