They offer a good selection of weekday and weekend classes (not Barre). Mostly, the instructors have been excellent. Sometimes I play tennis - there are about 3 indoor and 8 outdoor courts, I think. My only complaint is they get booked up weeks in advance, which is ridiculous. Onsite cafe sells cabinet & hot food, also Allpress coffee which definitely gets them some brownie points! Next Gen staff have improved over the last few weeks, a lot more friendly and helpful than when I first joined. Great sauna, spa & pool facilities. Change rooms are due to be upgraded. Members are generally professionals and high-end. I enjoy the club, however it has a hefty price tag, so you need to go often!

So, I finally took the plunge and joined...my first ever gym! I wanted to try all of the facilities before writing a review just to see whether Next Generation really lived up to the hype. So far, the gym has been great, the Zumba classes challenging (but fun) and I went swimming today - it was very refreshing! But the best thing is definitely being able to play tennis! There are about 11 courts to choose from, and all you have to do is book the court in advance and voila, you're set for the day! And if it's sunny, jump in one of their pools to cool down - either the indoor one or the outdoor pool on the roof! Another great thing about the gym is that they have a cafe/restaurant onsite plus a lounge which is a great place to relax and unwind after a work out or come down to one of their monthly quiz nights! Highly recommend Next Generation - all the facilities are spot on plus you will have loads of fun!!!

This place is my personal sanctuary. I don't think I've ever looked forward to working out so much,…read morethan I do now that I have started my membership at 151. It's a calm oasis in there, with the most amazing air con and facilities you have seen in a gym. In fact I think gym is too much of a dirty word to associate with this pristine place. Because they keep a cap on membership, there is never a line for the equipment, the instructors are always on hand to dole out helpful advice and they even email to check up on you when you haven't been in for a few days. The facilities available to all members and casual members include a swimming pool, sauna room,a tennis court and a great range of weights/ exercise bikes and heaps of other exercise equipment. There are classes available too, a favourite of mine being tennis fit! And don't even get my started on the bathrooms, and the straighteners available, the shampoo/ conditioner\ bathrobes. They really have thought of everything. Why just the other day I got offered a free hour long facial and massage just for being a member. Have I tempted you yet?

Monique is the co-owner and she listens to what you've got to say, the good and the constructive. They have lots of classes as well and things you can take advantage of like a Fat2Muscle programme if you are interested in losing weight while you work out. Loads of people take advantage of this, for one Wendyl Nissen who talks about it in her newsletters and blogs.

I once did a mad thing and tried, having never done Bikram yoga in my life, to do 30 sessions in 30…read moredays. This is a kind of challenge they set every so often to get people into the (good) habit of coming to class, and it serves as a kind of detox too as you sweat a whole bunch and cannot really drink a lot of alcohol when you're doing hot yoga every day. My experience was OK, I did feel good after doing the classes, but I can to this day remember the smell of the room and it is not pleasant. It is unfortunately a by-product of 40+ people doing hot sweaty yoga four times a day in the same room, but it smells of sweat. If you can get past that and get focussed then there are certainly loads of benefits to be had and the instructors, location, everything here is really good. I just don't recommend the 30 days of bikram unless you have a lot of time on your hands and really enjoy doing the inevitable laundry.

Auckland City Athletics (ACA) is a well-established athletics club for athletes of all ages and all…read moreabilities, from internationally competitive cross country runners to casual track runners wanting to improve their fitness. The ACA website provides you with a range of coaches across all running, track and field disciplines, and most of these coaches have quite social, friendly training groups who would all make you feel quite welcome if you wanted to come along. These coaches, such as Barry Magee and Neil Bartlett, do this training for a nominal retainer, which shows that they have a genuine passion for their discipline and are not motivated by financial gain. The home base of the track athletes, Mt Smart, has had a recent upgrade and also has a gym available for club athletes at a small fee.
