If you're looking for a unique place to stay in the French countryside, this is it. The hotel is built into the limestone and the rooms are cave-like. They get a bit dark at times but the uniqueness of the rooms more than makes up for it.
The staff were incredibly accommodating. Due to a train accident, we arrived quite late but they were ready to receive us. They also made sure we'd eaten. Later, we wanted to get a taxi back from Tours but weren't sure how to do that. We called the hotel and they were kind enough to send a taxi to get us. One afternoon, we ventured into Vouvray for wine tasting and cheese and came back with all sorts of goodies. I asked permission to sit on the restaurant patio to enjoy the view with our snacks and they were kind enough to bring out chair cushions and silverware.
I will say that we had better food outside the restaurant. Our one dinner at the hotel was enjoyable but expensive for the quality. The continental breakfast is effectively a basket for bread for 20+ euros per person - skip it and find something in town. read more
