The first thing I spotted outside, which I was really excited about was a Little Free Library book shed, which I know from when I lived in America. It is a book exchange; take a book, leave a book, book swap! I was very impressed to find one there! We had booked a table in advance, which I would probably recommend to avoid disappointment as there aren't many tables, but you can also eat outside. The decor is really nice and very fitting for a tea room. We were shown to our table straight away and the staff were really nice. We decided to order sandwiches and some cake, but they do afternoon tea and ice cream as well. Between us we ordered a bottle of prosecco and I shared a sandwich with a fellow diner, and was glad I did as otherwise I wouldn't have been able to fit in my cake! I went for the Wensleydale cheese and caramelised onion sandwich. Which was really nice! It might have been a bit cheesy had I had both parts of the sandwich. It also came with a nice side salad. For dessert there was lots of choice, including Victoria sandwich, coffee and walnut and lemon cake. I went for the New York cheesecake with strawberry. The cheesecake was delicious! Next time I would like to try the ice cream from Sargent's to see if it is as good as what I remember from when I was young! I can't wait to go back to the tearoom and try something different and next time I will take a book for the library! I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.

I ended up getting a whopping 10 chicken wings, because the kitchen had made a mistake, but rather than serving me 5, they ended up still serving me it. Lucky! The interior is also very pleasant and very comfortable with friendly service. It's also not noisy so you can easily have a conversation with other people. All in all a nice place to dine out if you don't fancy cooking and an incentive on Wednesdays!

They also have a range of bread, cakes (delicious!!!), Ice Cream from local makers and a deli counter. You can also pick up biscuits, preserves, fresh home cooked ready meals, fruit wines, local ales and other artisan products, even Potato Vodka! The cafe is excellent and they currently offer a free cup of tea or coffee for all visitors before 11am!. You can sit and enjoy breakfast, sandwiches, light lunches and some lovely home cooked deserts. In the summer there are wide arrays of fruits to be picked in the several pick your own areas from the obligaotry strawberrys to gooseberrs to raspberrys. Despite being an old building, in what looks like a converted bank, they have kept Starbucks vibes to a degree and the store has a nice level of brightness, which is something you're sometimes missing in many older buildings. There was only a small amount of seating, which was a shame given how large the store was, but the seating was relatively comfortable. I ordered a Vent iced Pumpkin Spice latte, with this being my favourite festive drink at Starbucks, I was pleasantly surprised that they were one of the few stores in the country to still offer this drink. There wasn't even a button on the tills anymore to charge me, so they ended up putting it through as a vanilla latte, this meant I paid much less than what it would have been back in Autumn with my gold rewards discount. I enjoyed my drink, it was up to the usual Starbucks standards, although they did add whipped cream which I had specifically requested against. They were busy, and mistakes can happen, the staff remained friendly. Early closing is a huge down point for me, but sadly very few other businesses in York seem to remain open after 6 pm, I can't understand why that is, as it is the city centre of one of England's large and historic cities. 4*

It was great to be able to stop in and grab a nice hot cup of brewed coffee. They have basically the same menu as here in the States. Service was very friendly here and fast.
