As we were walking around the Old City of Regensburg, we noticed a poster outside of this shop advertising special Osterbrot (Easter bread)--they had three types of special bread--plain, one with raisons and sliced almonds and #2 with glaze on top. They looked very good, so we decided to check them out on our way home.
We really wanted to try the one with sugar glaze, but it was totally sold out for the day, so we took the one with raisons (photo). To be honest, it was not too sweet as we hoped...but I remembered that most of German sweets are not that sweet comparing to American ones. Americans tend to use too much sugar (corn syrup, artificial sweetener, or whatever they use to make it overly sweet sometimes). The bread itself reminded me of challah bread--texture and consistency.
Germans know how to bake breads for sure...hands down. I always must resist the temptation not to try all the bread they offer...it's certainly not an easy feat.
