I made an appointment for a simple, specific office procedure. I waited 6 weeks for this…read moreappointment, because only one doctor in the network could do this procedure, and drove 25 miles and 40 minutes to the office. When I arrived I was told that I was scheduled for a physical and I'd have to make an additional appointment for the procedure, when I made the appointment for the procedure specifically in the first place (and was told that it would be 6 weeks). I left because that's absolutely ridiculous. Who would wait 6 weeks for just a physical?!?! Meanwhile, I called my previous primary group (I only switched because of insurance changes) who were able to get me in NEXT WEEK for the procedure. I was not told over the phone that there would be two appointments, I was not told that I couldn't get the procedure done on this appointment or anything like that. When I was there in person I was treated like I was crazy.

The staff at the front desk are always friendly and very personable. Amy, Dr. Gatz's nurse is very responsive and so understanding of my crazy work schedule as I travel, and am gone for weeks at a time. I'm very picky when it comes to health care providers, and knowing this, Dr. Gatz has always referred me to a specialist who is exactly what I'm looking for. The new location is beautiful, by the way!

Went to urgent care for a sports injury to the arm and the nurse practitioner student kept asking…read moreabout sleeping on it wrong or leaning on the elbow for an extended period of time. Really unsure what her line of questioning was, as the injury was directly related to and happened DURING a high contact sport. It made me wonder if she was even listening. I won't go into the back and forth details of the exam but if I hadn't pressed for direction on treatment or recovery I would have simply gotten an "I don't know and go see your PCP". If my PCP could have gotten me in for an appointment, I wouldn't have been at the urgent care in the first place. The worst part about the experience was the dismissiveness of the student and the lack of professionalism from the overseeing practitioner. She literally walked out of the exam in a fit. Didn't even end the exam just walked out. I wouldn't recommend this urgent care unless you are in desperate need without any other options. The only positives were the facility was clean and both the front desk and nurse were friendly.

Dr. John Mahon has been my primary care physician since I moved back to Kansas City a few years…read moreago. He's associated with the Encompass Medical Group. My parents see another physician at the same medical group and recommended seeing him when I returned to K.C. Instead I was given an appointment with Dr. Mahon, and I've been extremely pleased with the care he has given me. Encompass is easy to get to, if you know where to find it! The office is near 87th and Quivira. Marshall Drive is the western frontage road of I-35. Just turn onto Marshall Drive from 87th Street and head north -- the building is on the left and marked "Encompass". Making an appointment with Dr. Mahon has always been easy, and Encompass seems to be very good about being prompt keeping appointment times. I've rarely had to wait more than a few minutes to see the doctor. Dr. Mahon is very pleasant and personable. It's a busy medical practice, but he always seems to have the time to listen to what's going on and discuss the problem thoroughly. I've never felt rushed when I see Dr. Mahon. When necessary he's referred me to specialists, but on the whole he seems to be able to handle most medical issues I've had. Conveniently, there are X-ray, sonogram, lab facilities, etc. at the medical office, so you can have procedures done there without having to go somewhere else to have blood drawn or images taken. Encompass also has some other medical offices around the metro, and has an after-hours urgent care clinic for evenings and weekends located near 103rd and Wornall, which can save a trip to the emergency room! Dr. Mahon can also be reached by e-mail, and responds promptly, when necessary, which I really appreciate. All in all, if you need a good, caring primary care physician, I can highly recommend him.

I have had only exceptional experiences with Dr. Rahto and his team taking great care of my health needs. But yesterday was especially important for me as I came into the office in crisis mode regarding my health issues and how that has/is impacting my job/career, my life, and my future - and they made sure that I was well taken care of and spent the extra time with me in order to do so. They were incredibly professional, patient, knowledgeable, and genuinely compassionate - something that's rare to find these days as most other medical experiences make you feel like just a number. They made me feel like family. Hayley took the extra time and attention to detail to help me fill out medical paperwork and I felt truly cared for and supported every step of the way. She was incredibly patient with me as I asked many questions and knowledgeable in guiding me through it - I appreciate that more than you know. That choice can cost patients thousands of dollars but they can't be bothered even though you have to pay out of pocket. That's not something that someone does who cares about their patients. This is a practice for someone who doesn't have health insurance and wants to risk huge medical bills. But hope that you don't ever need a diagnosis code - to transfer care, to get treatment at a hospital, to go on disability - because our country uses diagnosis codes as the standard of practice, so their lack of interest in spending the time is at the expense of patient well being. Why would anyone pay for a doctor who does not care about their long term well-being or having thousands of dollars out of pocket because the provider doesn't want to learn diagnostic codes?

Once arriving, the check-in process is smooth. New patients must present ID and insurance. Once you're in the system, only an updated insurance card is needed (if applicable). The nurses are very attentive and friendly and Dr. Ensminger is the best. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he truly cares about his patients as well. Larry has a great "bedside manner," very professional and knowledgeable, but he always surprises me with his common sense. Example: I had an orthopedist tell me I'd need knee surgery soon. I told Larry, and he told me that's what they get paid for - doing knee surgeries. Larry instead gave me a three injection treatment that I've done twice now, and it helps tremendously. I don't think I've ever had a bad experience with this practice. They are Christian-based (I think) but all that's meant to me is they care about their patients. Dr. Nazario is one of the best family practice doctors. She is kind, thoughtful, and been there for me during loads of changes in my life, always with great advice. The staff is super friendly, and the whole office runs smoothly--it's never a nightmare trying to check in. I'm especially grateful for my doctor, Dr. Mark Sankoorikal. He's also really down-to-earth and easy to talk to. Dr. Sankoorikal always takes his time, explains the medical stuff without making you feel stupid, and he's big on keeping you healthy for the long haul, not just treating the immediate problem. If you live in the OP area and need an internist you can trust, you should definitely check out Dr. Sankoorikal and the team at Quivira Internal Medicine. Highly recommend!
