Not very expensive hair salon, easy to get appointments, my favorite stylist is Mary. After I got my hair done here, everyone in my family started to go there. They also know how to do Indian hair. My stylist I just tell the color I want if I'm coloring and the type of cut I'm looking for. She also always recommends which type of products to use. The store is also wheelchair accessible and accommodating for washing and cutting the hair. The only improvements I think they need is better cutting for men's hair. My husband got his haircut once and they don't clean the neckline like in a men's barbershop, I dont know if it's because it's mostly women stylists but the finished product for men's haircuts are not very nice as a barbershop would do, anyway for women's hair cuts and styling I personally prefer this salon, especially for thick frizzy Indian hair. read more

I wanted to walk-in at 8:15 am yesterday.Only 1 hair stylist. The stylist had 1 in the chair and and her 8:30 appointment just walked in. She said the salon is booked solid all day until 9pm. At 5:30, LEMON TREE IN PLAINVEW took me right away...I got a hair cut. At 7 pm, I called the NHP Lemon Tree to see if I could be taken. The receptionist said hold on, came back and said they have 2 others waiting and could not take me. I asked why? They are opened til 9pm.She said she was sorry but could not take me. My biggest regret about my experience at the Lemon Tree is that I didn't take a before/after picture. I had an appointment for a Saturday morning for a wash & blowout since I had two events that day. I have a lot of hair. It's thick as a wolf and almost down to my mid-back, so I make sure I tell the receptionist that when I'm booking the appointment. My stylist was Dawn, who I had seen before since I've been coming to the Lemon Tree for nearly 20 years, but never worked with. Dawn asked me questions about my hair and what I was looking to achieve in her chair. She said my ends were fried (they were) and she needed to cut off at least an inch of hair. She promised she'd keep my hair as long as possible and only chop off what needed to be chopped. I understood and went to go get washed. In addition to having a lot of hair, I also hadn't washed it in close to a week since I wasn't going anywhere and knew I had an appointment. Why use my hair care products? Dawn had my hair washed 3 times before it was satisfactorily clean for her. She brushed it out and said we needed to cut more, closer to 2 or 3 inches. I said okay because I know it has been an embarrassingly long time since my last trim. Dawn and I chatted as she snipped my dead ends. We chatted as she blew out my hair to perfection and hit it with a straightening iron. It was really nice. Dawn is super easy to chat with and I feel like we were BFFs at the end. By the time I was done, I felt like a hair model. Dawn said that other than my dead ends, my hair was actually incredibly healthy. She gave me some tips on how to replicate the blow out at home. (Step 1 was buy a blow dryer...) My hair held up the entire day and was a huge boost to my confidence at a baby shower (not mine) and a meeting with my dad and my future mother in law. A friend of mine recommended Lemon Tree and I wanted to give it a try. I made an appointment with Hannah. There was a bad storm that day in the area and she called me to see if I could come in earlier because they were going to close before my appointment. I was able to come earlier, she greeted me upon approval, had my hair washed and she knew exactly what kind of haircut to give me just by looking at my style. She asked me and I said ok, sounds good. She was quick, efficient and courteous. All was done, I paid and left. When I came home my wife said nice haircut, which she never said before. So of course I will be back. Came here to get my kid's hair cut. Wash, cut, and blow-dry, was $16. My kids hair is not terribly long, but it was thick, and Hannah did a nice job thinning it out and trimming the dead ends. I usually have had a great experience so its very disappointing that I have to find a new hair place. My hair stylist was overbooked which is not her fault and not under her control. But what is under her control is how she treats her customers. She complained multiple times about my hair being curly/ difficult. She had another hair stylist do my hair saying "i was scared to do her hair but i wont tell you why in front of her". "Her" being me, the customer... as if i am not sitting in the chair. She kept saying doing my hair gave her anxiety....SUPER unprofessional. They should put "for straight hair only" on their door if they're going to do this. Left feeling awful. I decided to give the Lemon tree a chance for the second after a few years of not going there. I find most employees un professional. I had a mask on and Dawn made me feel uncomfortable with her opinions. This is not the first time I have had Dawn and she is un professional most of tge time. I have been coming here since i was in high school. I usually come here to just have my hair done for weddings and special occassions. Most of the time i have come i have seen Mary. She is super sweet and always does a great job. Usually when i come in i usually search online (magazines old days) and asked can we do something like this. She will always make a recommendation and since she is the hair expert that i have trusted. I made my appointment for 9am. I arrived at 845 I was taken to the seat about 9:05 I was finished At 9:58 When she saw me come in she walked over said she had to finish blowing out her clients hair and asked what are we doing today. I showed her a picture and she said i will have the curling iron warm up. Now i came with my hair previously washed because hair with no product will hold best. Eith natural oils. Plus it speeds up the process.... Who wants to sit in a salon all day.. My hair is med to long length and i think she did a superb job! It was $55 for half up/half down. Let me start off my saying I am VERY picky with who touches my hair and for me to walk in to a lemon tree hearing bad things was not a norm for me. I was having a BAD day. I needed a haircut to make myself feel better. My hair was LONG. All one length. My layers and angles grew out. I walked in and was greeted by Uma. I told her what I wanted and explained how picky I was. She assured me I was in good hands. Well she was right!!!!!! $14 for the best cut ever !!!! Face framing angles and long layers in the back. She showed me how much she was cutting off and ASKED before doing so! She didn't go scissor happy. I HIGHLY recommend her. She's been cutting hair for almost 30 years. No I don't go to a barber shop for my haircut (despite there being one around the corner from this location). For most of my hairy life I've come to Lemon Tree. Maybe the majority of customers are of female gender, but that won't stop me from "getting my ears lowered" here (#oldhaircutsaying). One of many spots scattered about the area, I've made this location my go-to LT since I was a wee kinder. They've given the innards a makeover several times and its current setup is chic yet comfortable. Despite being around a lot of estrogen, the staff has usually been welcoming. Consistently I get my haircut from Hannah, who is friendly enough to ask how you're doing, but willing to offer up some quiet time if you're not in to conversing with those that trim your follicles. For the most part, my scheduled appointment takes place when they're meant to start, but timing can be a factor that occasionally becomes a caveat to the place. When talking price, (at least for my quick and easy cut) it's perfecto. Overall, Lemon Tree delivers quality professionalism through knowledgeable and friendly staff and prices that are spot on. I don't need a red, white, and blue barber pole. The lemons do it for me...Odd to say, but true. read more

I've had a couple of scheduling problems with them the past recent times I went, but nothing they weren't able to work with (I called requesting a dye, they wrote down blow out... that kind of thing). I've had both Hannah and Kathy. Hannah is great at styling. She also takes her time and you get a really good look at her technique. I've mimicked it at home and while it doesn't come out as nice, it's definitely presentable. When I came in here for a dye job, I decided go with a purplish-red color. I was scheduled to have an appointment with Hannah, but when I showed her the picture she didn't feel comfortable with the colors. That's fine, I'd rather someone be honest about that then try it. Instead, Kathy swung in and because I had arrived about 15 minutes early, she was able to take me before her next appointment (so if she was late on you, that's probably cause of me). Being that my hair color had previously grown out, and my ends were way lighter than my roots. Kathy crafted 3 separate dies. A dark red dye for my ends so they could match the dark of my roots, and a medium red for the bulk of my head. It came out great. So general note: for crazy colors go to Kathy and be explicit/have them read back to you your appointment read more

I normally don't write reviews but after the experience I had I feel like it's necessary to do so. I get to my appointment and the hairdresser says "so what are you getting again?" I said i'm getting balayage and a trim... she goes "You never told me you wanted balayage" mind you, i inquired about it in person 2 months prior when I was there for a hair cut AND literally made the appointment via phone call specifically for that. She goes ok show me what you want, I show her and she goes ok i'll try my best (i should've known that wasn't a good sign already) but ok so she does my hair and it looks nothing like the color i asked for and it wasn't even balayage!! She literally gave me ORANGE AND YELLOW HIGHLIGHTS and kept talking about how good it looked. I was so shocked and I'm not someone that likes to make a scene so I quietly paid and left and i literally left in tears because I grew my hair, took care of it for 2 years thinking when I finally get it done i'll get balayage again just for my hair to be bleached again with the wrong color and style after saving it for so long. She charged me the price of highlights too not balayage and i'm glad i didn't have to pay what balayage costs but it got me really annoyed because she knew she gave me a completely different service than what I SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR without even telling me before she started! I ended up having to bleach my hair AGAIN a week later at a different place and pay $350 for them to fix it. Very upsetting but grateful the other place could fix it. read more

This is a delayed review: If it were not for Kim, this review would have been rated with one star. Grace was my issue. Tonight was my first visit at this salon. When I arrived I overheard the woman in front of me being informed that the hot water was not working. We both had blowouts scheduled so this was obviously devastating news. When it was my turn to hear the news about the hot water situation, I was accused of lying about having an appointment. Grace legitimately verbally attacked me. I have never been treated this way, especially not in a customer service based business such as a salon. Most disturbing is that Grace had a young student shadowing her! My mom started taking me to Lemon Tree as a little kid, and I have stayed with them ever since. All of the workers are so kind, and amazing at their jobs however, I would have to say my favorite hairdresser is Dawn. I have always had a great experience with her, and she is always able to make my thick and curly long hair look beautiful. The ladies at the front desk always inform me that my hair appointment can range from an hour to an hour and a half, so I know to be considerate and mindful when getting my hair done because i am aware that it can be very timely when I want to get it straightened, due to my hair type. We arrived at 1:25pm for a 1:30pm appt and were told 2 minutes and 40 minutes later Fran who seemed more interested in talking about Mother's Day than cutting hair and chatting it up with her customer. Much better hair cut places in the neighborhood. I hear they are not very good at hair cutting anyway but thought to give them a try. Came here for my wedding hair trial and had a great experience with Agata. She was very accommodating and surprisingly quick. She knew what I wanted right away and even showed me two options of curls that I could do for my big day. I went to another salon and did a trial only to sit there for 2hrs and be charged double the amount of money (and my curls didn't hold). Agata was able to add good suggestions so that my hair will be perfect with and without my veil on. I was even impressed that after my trial that my curls and hair was intact for the next day (then I caved in and washed it). If you are a bride looking for volume and body , go see Agata !! I was recently in Lemon Tree for cut and blow out. I do not remember the stylist's name but she was a thin lady with bad skin (that has no relevance, just a description), and she was extremely rude to me while leaving her station many times to talk on her cell phone and to greet a child who was dropped off by a friend. IF I ever go back there I will be sure not to have her do my hair ever again. She cut it uneven and I had to ask her to blow dry it more because it was still wet when she told me she was finished. NOT! She was RUDE enough to tell me to see someone else if I ever come back. I certainly will do that. I only will go there because it is more convenient that the other Lemon Tree shops in Bayside and Great Neck. Parking is not great in NHP however it is better than the other locations on my way home from work. I have since found out her name is KATHY. I now know NOT to make an appointment with her. AWFUL EXPERIENCE. IF YOU HAVE LONG, THICK, OR CURLY HAIR, DON'T GO HERE. My sister, mother and I made appointments to get our hair done at the salon for a party we were going to later that day. The appointment was made long in advance and the person who made the appointment for us was notified that my sister and I both had long, thick hair. I also added that my hair was curly. My mom has very short, silky, and straight hair, like much of the clientele I usually see here, so we didn't mention that. Right off the bat, when my sister walks in, a stylist tells her her hair is too thick and long, she can't do it, and she will be charged $50. She expected to pay more and was happy to do so (especially if the service was good), but not to be immediately angrily accosted for her hair type instead of at least a "Hi, how are you". She was livid but we had a make up appointment afterwards so she kept her mouth shut in the interest of time. The stylist pushed her on to a South Asian stylist who was doing my mom's hair, because she was "recovering from surgery" and my sister had to wait 50 minutes to be serviced, despite making an appointment 2 weeks in advance. The original stylist continued to go on about how much time "long, thick hair" took and when my sister finally said she didn't appreciate being yelled at for her hair type every time she came into the salon, the woman changed her tune to something about how the person at the front desk didn't do a good job scheduling and didn't write it in the book. Passing the buck, very typical. When I booked my appointment I asked the person at the front desk if the stylist could do a blowout on me, with thick curls, kind of like a bombshell blowout. I was also willing to pay more money for this. She responded yes, as if it was obvious. The woman who was doing my hair was perfectly fine at first, but as time went on I could tell she was not used to my hair type and she began yanking a roller brush through my hair and digging into my scalp, complaining about how frizzy it was. Again, in the interest of time, I didn't complain. However, When I started to notice that she was just pulling my hair flat, instead of giving it lift and volume with the brush, I asked, in a perfectly nice tone of voice, what the process was and if she would be putting in curls later. She immediately snapped at me and said she was doing the best she could to "just dry it" since it was so "frizzy". I have never had a stylist talk to me like this in my life, and it's astounding how I couldn't get a simple blowout with some curl when I've gone elsewhere and gotten it. I remained pleasant and clarified that I was just asking, I didn't know since I obviously can't do it myself. Eventually, she ended up putting in loose ringlets with a curler, and said she wouldn't spray it because it wouldn't make a difference (this isn't true). By then I just gave up. You go to a salon in the hopes that they can do a better job than you do at home, but I knew we had all just collectively wasted about $150 and about two hours, since my moms hair didn't even look like it was done, and it wasn't sprayed to hold either. We didn't argue about the cost of service and gave adequate tip. Their tone changed by the end of the visit to pleasant. Doesn't change the service. Won't be returning. Save yourself the trouble too. Funny how it says you get charged $10 for being nasty. Wonder if they'd pay us for the nastiness we endured. read more

I've come to this salon ever since I was little and love it even now that I am an adult. The staff isn't uptight and superficial like other salons and of course their prices are SUpER affordable compared to other salons as well. I like that I can converse with the girls and they can tell me about their lives back without making me feel out of place (free therapy lol). My daughter is mixed and I am even pleased at the wonders they work on her hair. I went in yesterday for me and my daughters hair appointment and let me tell you I hardly ever write reviews but this salon is AMAZING! She literally made me look 10 years younger! I got my hair washed, cut, a blowout and styled and including my daughters haircut it was only $40. Stephanie did our hair and she was so friendly and polite. My daughter is young and she even stayed in her chair for the appointment which I was worried about initially The salon is clean and since our appointment was early no one was there so we felt comfortable. I called to ask if they had any short notice availability, the lady over the phone said I could come in within the next half hour or an hour. I glad to be able to be seen on such short notice. When I arrived, the staff was welcoming and I explained to them about my bad haircut experience at a previous salon. I showed the stylist the parts of my hair/head that were amiss and she perfectly understood why I wasn't happy. I didn't need to spend much time in the chair because it was more of a correction then a full on haircut. I used the comb and showed her how I naturally part my hair and the dapper look I want. She quickly shipped away with her shears doing her best without needing to take off more hair then was needed. They made me feel pleased and confident with my new look and wished me luck on the new job (which is why I needed the haircut). Last time I was there for a cut when I had long hair was back in 2010. I came to this salon for the first time today because I decided that I absolutely could not go another day without getting a trim. I called, made an appointment and they said Kim would be cutting my hair. I am not exaggerating when I say this: the cushion on the stylist's chair hadn't even completely compressed from my ass before my haircut was over! Between the shampoo and the haircut (no blow dry), I was done in 10 minutes. The staff is very stressed and they argue with their family by phone, in front of the costumers. I never saw this kind of behavior in a hair salon! I asked to make some highlights, to cut and blow out. I'm Latin woman, I have natural and beautiful curly medium hair. I washed my hair before to go. I just didn' t see difference, because my natural hair color is dark brown, but I´m easy going person and I understand that the color can look darker in doors. They cut African, Chinese or blond hair with the same ability. I just went to Lemon Tree because I hadn't time to go to NJ. Stay away from this place of rude and unhappy hair stylists!
