We arrived after dark because…read moreof daylight saving time, but the rangers were there waiting for us and advised us on how to get to our site. The road is newly paved on the way in after having sustained damage from Hurricane Helene. The site itself was in great shape. Lots of room to set up. Lots of tables and a nice firepit location. On Saturday we hiked up to the office and spent time at the playground near the lake. The ranger in the office was super friendly to all of our Scouts when they came in to the office for supplies or to show their Bingo card that was completed. The lake is beautiful and everything around the office is well maintained. We bought firewood while at the office and the ranger delivered it to our site promptly. The office hours were only 11am-12pm and 4pm-5pm, so plan accordingly. I would likely visit here again and would recommend that other troops or families do the same.

absolutely the worst gym ever and are so ridiculously abusive and will lie straight to your face…read more emotionally, physically and verbally abusive, lying, rude, snakes, favoritism, screaming, twisted, threatening, name calling, unsafe, refuse to help or spot, completely different around parents, angered at any questions, traumatizing, poor equipment, scrutinizing and belittling, just like the karolyi's and i regret all of my 11 years there and ten years of competing for and representing them. the amount of depression anxiety and mental health issues i accrued through this gym is absolutely astounding. the amount of times i cried before going to every practice begging my parents to turn the car around and the amount of times i cried during practice the amount of times they made me physically sick from the abuse and the amount of times i hoped to get an injury so bad to the point where i would never be able to do gymnastics again. they pick their favorites and if you're not one of the 5% they favorite they will abuse you they will lie to you they will forget about you they will punish you they will name call you they will threaten and scream at you. it's truly astounding how bad a gym can possibly be and if you know anything about the karolyi's and their abusive training tactics then you would have to be absolutely out of your mind and idiotic to send your child here to suffer through such trauma and abuse. and if you don't know anything about the karolyi's i highly suggest you do even the slightest bit of research and you will find that no child should ever be treated this way. if you have watched athlete a it is the EXACT same in every way except for the sa of course. do not send your child here unless you truly want to scar, traumatize and abuse your child!

This passive park is at the corner southwest of Main Street and Marlboro Avenue. It does not have a…read morededicated parking area but there is a small strip mall across the way and I'm sure you can park there for a bit. According to the plaque, "This Park was given to the City of Barnwell by the Robert O. Collins Family in 2000. It was once the site of the home of William Gilmore Simms and his wife, Emma Hartzog Simms. The property, purchased by Joseph Allen Porter in 1919, remained in the Porter family and was ultimately purchased by Robert O. Collins. During the first half of the 20th century, this corner of Main Street and Marlboro Ave. became a meeting place for neighborhood nurses and their young charges. The nurses sat on the walls surrounding two sites of the property and exchanged household and community news while the children played. Many affectionately remember this location as 'Porter's Corner,' which provides cherished memories of a by-gone era. The Park, designed by Robert Marvin and open to the public, has been dedicated to the famous sons and daughters of the City." There are benches, shade trees, swings and a center pavilion. The grass is well-maintained. [Review 16847 overall - 878 in South Carolina - 360 of 2022.]

This is an unassuming park with no fancy signage, friendly Rangers, beautiful scenery, and…read moreexcellent cabin accommodations. We arrived on a Thursday afternoon and departed on Saturday. Cabin 1 had everything we needed to feel as if we were home: cable TV, WiFi, fully equipped kitchen (including a Hamilton Beach FlexBrew/traditional coffee maker/ pods with coffee and extras in a straw basket), light blocking shades, locally made quilts on 2 queen size beds with extra pillows, hairdryer/nightlight in the bathroom (safety bars for us old folks), and TWO sleeper sofas (wish we'd invited family). Outside was a picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire pit with chairs. For $6, a Ranger dropped off a cord of wood for us that was plenty for two fires for both of our nights here. Check in was at 4PM, and hours at the Ranger station were 4-5PM, and 11-12. When we checked out, we left the 2 keys on the kitchen table since check out was 10AM. During the day we walked the two nature trails and walked around the lake near the Ranger station. We also explored Blackville, looking for historical places in The BLACKVILLE HERITAGE TRAIL brochure. We stopped at the Piggly Wiggly for groceries so we could make our own meals at the cabin. At night we enjoyed relaxing around the fire we built in the fire pit. Up above, we saw a lot of stars, but not as many as we'd hoped due to a nearby street light (for safety). A nice perk at this state park was the welcome gift delivered by Ranger Brandon Friday morning: locally made gifts (honey, soap & lip balm). This was the perfect touch to a perfect stay!!

The accomodations, which runs off the lodge were very comfortable with a true 'just like home" feel. All meals are included and the food they cook is amazing food that is just like your Mama used to cook. I could go on about the food and deserts...yummy. Tom Collins overseas everything...and closely. His management of his many hunt areas is impeccable, from the way he drops people off to their stands, to picking them up, to scent and sound. He is a good man who really cares about his guests, and cares that they have a successful experience while there. Everyone I met on both my trips are those who keep coming back (and it is easy to understand why). This last time I only killed a 4 pt, but I did have the chance to kill a bunch of does. I highly recommend this place with 5 1/2 stars!!
