Way out here in rural West Virginia, this marker points out the history of this small town that you're driving through. There is some room here to pull over and read the sign while you appreciate the quiet countryside.
The marker reads, "The village of Leivasy, formerly known as Meadowvale, was established with post office and general store Oct. 3, 1879. Valentine Leivasy was the first postmaster and merchant. Surnames of early settlers include Bennett, Callison, Davis, Journelle, McClung, McCutcheon, Nicholas, Odell, Pittsenberger, White and Williams. A centennial celebration held Oct. 6, 1979, drew an estimated 4000 people."
Enjoy the quiet!
