I was provided with a wrist tattoo by Joy Choi aka Sieun Choi at the Kitsilano studio on April 24…read more On May 5, I emailed with a number of concerns, specifically that the colour was becoming invisible and/or was quickly blending. An artist elsewhere advised that Joy should have known to do the work much bigger, knowing that the colours will blend and within 6 months, NONE of the detail will be visible. He recommended spending a minimum of $2800 over the span of two years to go in for monthly laser removal treatment, which would include blistering for 7 to 10 days per treatment and probably discolour, after which I could wait a year to finally get the tattoo done properly (2027!). I spent roughly $500 on the tattoo and tipped Joy $100, satisfied upon leaving the studio. Thereafter, I asked Joy and the owner, Clayton Aelbers, to comment on the very poor result and the recommendations I received. Joy sent me a mild apology and then remained silent. Clayton wrote that I could return for free touch ups. I then wrote to Joy to request the return of at least the $100 tip, asking if she would prefer me to post honest and negative reviews of her work, and/or sue her and the studio. Joy sent that note to Clayton, who then wrote that I am no longer welcome whatsoever at Royal Rose, stating that he was going to involve the police and his lawyer over my email [I was never contacted by the police or any lawyer]. In an attempt to resolve this matter as efficiently as possible, I told Joy that I would return for free touch ups. Upon arriving at Royal Rose Kitsilano, the owner Ryan immediately reminded me that I'm no longer welcome there, and I left. I then went to Adrenaline Tattoo, who urged me again not to spend any money or energy on this tattoo. I did spend $115.00 at Adrenaline on very minor touchups. So because I asked for Joy to return my $100 tip and because I mentioned the possibility of suing, I am left with a partial, very poor, very old looking wrist tattoo that will probably undergo a lot of heartache to remove. I do not have the funds to have it removed at present as I am on permanent disability with severe chronic pain. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. AVOID ROYAL ROSE. GO ANYWHERE ELSE. * physical limits prevent me from taking and including photos. * i also asked Joy the minimum size a new specific tattoo would need to be; she said 5". Adrenaline says 12" to retain ANY detail.

After meeting Staci, and having a conversation involving candy, expectations for piercing, and signing a waiver, I got seated promptly as a walk in, and was taken into the back for my first piercing. She was professional, courteous, friendly, and highly informative as well as supportive for after care. With a bright disposition and welcoming attitude, I will definitely be back here again and stay in touch in future. Thanks for the great first experience- one of many more to come~! :)

I'm very disappointed in my service today especially since I trusted Staci. The good reviews and…read moreher experience was something I trusted and was even confident in. This piercer had a lot of red flags and in hindsight I should've not even gotten it done there as soon as I saw the equipment, and even before I got there because Staci was just brushing me and my concerns/questions off before the actual session. The first red flag was she had her apprentice pierce me and she wasn't even there to supervise. 2nd red flag was them using bioflex (which is made out of plastic and should never be used for initial piercings and titanium is the only appropriate piercing to be used, they were touting it like it was the best thing to use though) I should've walked out as soon as I saw that because never in my life have I been pierced with bioflex, it's always titanium flatbacks. They used 18g needles and said my piercing will heal as 20g too which is not a good gauge for cartilage piercings, they told me to just stretch it which is counterintuitive, CARTILAGE IS MORE RIGID AND WILL CAUSE ME A LOT MORE PAIN TO STRETCH!!!. I went to an APP store and they said while the piercing was straight, it's just the jewelry was highly inappropriate bc it's a corkscrew for nose piercings. Anyways I came back and Staci just exploded at me saying it was an insult I got a second opinion and just very passive aggressively telling me to sit down and she'll put metal in my ear if I wanted that so bad. It made me highly uncomfortable and I didn't even mean to insult her, besides she can't even be mad because it was her apprentice and NOT HER who pierced me. I spent 50 bucks to be berated and I will not be going back again. I felt very blindsided especially since she's been saying she uses surgical steel, even that's better than bioflex. I feel SCAMMED. Avoid this piercer. She was very defensive and mean, I have the RIGHT to get a second opinion because it's my body, no reason for her to be so unprofessional and raise her voice at a customer like that. I asked her to educate me on bioflex and she got even madder and defensive. Traumatic experience.

He not only brightened it up but also did a little once over on other areas to better blend the new work with the old, so now I have a lovely collection of autumn leaves and a greater definition of my birds against the grey wash in the background. Jarret has a really lovely demeanour, is calm and friendly to chat with (I didn't even need my phone!) and is a quick, knowledgeable, and skilled tattooist. I would recommend him without hesitation.

As such, I spent most of my time in the waiting room in the front lobby killing time. What I can tell you: The place is clean and orderly. The front staff were very friendly, and after observing them for an hour or so (as there wasn't much to do while waiting), they were very professional and helpful, to clients at the venue and over the phone. The waiting room consists of some padded chairs and a coffee table with binders with the various tattoos you can get. There's a water cooler and a washroom as well. I couldn't tell if they had free wifi, but there was one of those 'linksys' unsecured access points with full bars that worked from the lobby, which was handy for me since I was able to write a few Yelp reviews on my laptop while I was sitting around waiting (but with all unsecured wifi spots, especially those that you don't know who owns them, I would never to any kind of financial transactions or anything that requires inputting a password of any sort). I don't think I'd ever get a tattoo for myself (simply doesn't interest me), but if I were in BC and had to get one, I'd probably go here. 13/30

Check out their socials via Facebook or Instagram, for examples and promotions. I went to get my helix pierced with my 10 year old niece who got her lobes done. The shop is located upstairs, on Port Moody's high street. The shop is very clean and the staff very professional. After signing a waver form we got to choose which flat back studs we wanted. You get a basic stud with the appointment, for a few bucks more you can get some other. One of the rules is that you're allowed to have 1 person in the room with you (for support if you need it), due to the size of the room. Everything was new and sterile. Libby was great in letting us know what to expect and what we would be feeling. My niece who was pretty nervous didn't even feel the first piercing. After both ears were done, she came out saying she barely felt it. I'm so proud of her! My helix looks great! So happy we had gone here. After all was done and paid, Libby had given us information for the proper and healing of our piercings. What to expect and what not to do, super informative. Something I wish I had known the first time I got my helix pierced. It is a CASH ONLY location, so make sure your wallet is filled.
