I love how intimate the classes feel which provides you with an experience where you get personal instruction from some of the best instructors and masters that are truly passionate about martial arts and teaching others about the practice. I would highly recommend the women's self-defense classes as in today's world women may, unfortunately, find themselves in a situation where they need to defend themselves and the classes at American Dragon not only teach you vital moves and strategies that could potentially save your life, but it's fun too! I'm looking forward to taking even more of their extensive variety of martial arts and self-defense classes as I will definitely be here for even more years to come.

PICK SOMEONE ELSE FOR YOUR CHILD!!!!!…read more Update: After reading my review, Frank Nelson sent insulting and confrontational text messages to my personal cell phone. He also texted our friend asking for information about our family. I am appalled. See review below for our experience: I have had my 7 year old daughter in training with Master Nelson for a few months now. We originally were invited by her friend and the location is super convenient for us. Despite what I am about to describe, she did have fun with her friends and when "Big Dave" was teaching her instead of Master Nelson. I'm honestly quite shocked to be the first One Star rating for this establishment. Master Nelson is well trained, and absolutely knows his craft well. It's a shame he's not a better teacher and person. In a class with children no older than 12, (most about 6-9 years old) I have witnessed first hand him belittling, mocking, pointing and laughing at, singling out, hitting (no I am not exaggerating, yes, hitting or what looks like a light spanking? Both with his bare hands and with a padded target), screaming inches from kid's faces, smacking giant sticks on the ground, do I need to continue? In the next breath he will tell the same child he loves them and then kiss them on the top of the head. I have had to do so much unteaching for my daughter as we leave. I have had to say to her "Master Nelson pointed and laughed at that boy and called him the Pillsbury Dough Boy, why is that wrong?" "How did you feel when Master Nelson screamed at your friend next to you for having her hand on the wrong hip?" "When he told the class and parents that the boy has some screws loose, do you think that was kind or unkind?" (This particular child is clearly special needs) I could go on and on with these lessons we've had to have after going to class. Then. I see his very public Facebook page, and the puzzle starts to come together. I won't write out any posts or opinions he has shared here, but suffice it to say that as member of the LGBTQ+ community, I feel utterly hated and unwelcome in Frank Nelson's establishment after having learned how he feels about people like me. I am completely disgusted and mortified to have paid this person to teach my child anything at all and feel it necessary to warn as many others away from him as possible. What I've learned after Frank Nelson's response on BBB.org: After reading my one star Google review, he texted me an insulting and confrontational message and subsequently texted another parent in the class looking for information about our choices. I chose to block his phone number to avoid further harassment. Yet here has made my reviews very personal and named my daughter on the internet and by his own admission has asked the other parents in class about me. He is a liar. There are more than one bold faced lies in his response. Just to name one, 5-6 times in class in an egregious understatement. He is ok with allowing random people to do his job for him without proper employment protocols. Now I have no idea if the one teacher I liked at this place was ever safe to be around my daughter at all. I'll be calling DCF next to see if there is anything they can do to help. Neither Frank Nelson nor his LLC has an active license to conduct business in the city of Orlando, with fines having been assessed as of the time this post was made. Frank: I will not be responding again. If you have anything further, I'd be happy to provide contact information for my lawyer.

Master Nelson is totally Kreese's backstory (military, still in touch with his teachers) but then he has Johnny Lawrence's attitude towards the kids (he can be hard on them, but from a place of care and compassion and truly having their backs). My kid is shy and I was really hoping this would help him come out of his shell a bit and get to know some other kids. It took him almost 2 weeks to actually participate in class, but the whole time the instructor and the other students were GREAT about trying to motivate him but not pushing too hard. Now my son looks forward to class, participates very well, and is learned a ton. It's everything I hoped for AND more.

Having an awesome instructor is key; Sensei Bruno Cabrera is a world champion athlete who has an extensive and impressive resume of achievements as a fighter. I am privileged to train with Sensei Bruno who helps us master proper kickboxing form. He is motivating throughout the entire workout until the moves are done correctly. The entire workout is fast-paced and tends to fly by because of the fun and friendly environment. You can expect a fully body, high energy workout that engages every muscle group with strong focus on your core. No martial arts or boxing experience required. In my opinion this is the best form of high intensity interval training so be ready to push yourself to your limit in the best possible way.

Here is what my husband has to say... I write this review from the position of a serious martial artist. I have 20 years of martial arts experience. It is something I am deeply passionate about. It took me 8 years to reach my black belt in taekwondo; I taught for 10 years and reached my third degree; I competed actively in kickboxing for 6 years; I did aikido for 5 years during which time I was one of my sensei's (who was one of the first to bring aikido to the east coast of FL) first uchideshi, or live in student. I lived and breathed martial arts for most of my life. I found Stoneybrook Karate after my son expressed interest in learning martial arts. I thought I was going to have a terrible time looking for a school that that wasn't a "McDojo" or daycare in the guise of a karate school, let alone meet my high standards. I was pleasantly surprised to find a school that has: ***a head instructor who attained his yudansha (black belt) in Okinawa--the birthplace of traditional karate ***several kids that are nationally and internationally ranked competitors that help with the kids classes ***a competition team that is serious about competing in legitimate tournaments ***a strict, disciplined teaching approach that delivers results Sensei Tim is a no-nonsense instructor who teaches karate in a way it was taught to him in Okinawa. There is no BSing around. The kids work hard and they enjoy what they are doing because they are actually getting very good at it by learning at this school. These are all huge pluses for me, as a martial artist and as a parent. If you are interested in serious, traditional karate for yourself or your child, you would do yourself a great favor by visiting this school!
