I booked consult for wisdom teeth surgery for my teenager well in advance, and was told that our insurance was accepted When we showed up to the actual appointment, we. were told that the insurance is not accepted at all and that the consult itself would cost $180 out-of-pocket when they already had all of the relevant info from the referring dentist anyway. Not only do indies that cost to be severely inflated but it came with wasted time waiting weeks plus the day of the appointment only to be told they do not accept the insurance that I was assured that they would accept This was quite disappointing to say the least. If they can't even decide which plans they accept or not then I certainly do not trust them cutting into my child's mouth I find this quite unprofessional and it gives me concern for the quality of care they offer if you even get that far

I have called the office 3 separate times to leave a message because I had no other choice and no one has called me back. Thank God for the antibiotics that my dentist prescribed. She had JUST done X-rays and my teeth badly needed cleaning less than 3 months after her regular cleaning procedure. She saw no issue with the roots... HOWEVER... when I got to VCU 3 months later I was told IMMEDIATELY that the right front tooth had almost no bone tissue left in which to place the implant anchor & all 4 front, top teeth need immediate replacement. AS DO THE BOTTOM FOUR!!! I am FORTY SIX FKN YEARS OLD, M'KAY??? I've never even had a gd cavity. THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS, at LEAST. Do NOT go to this dentist if you want teeth. Her receptionist texted my estranged, abusive spouse with my appointment and financial information after being told explicitly to protect my PRIVACY. I made it very clear we were divorcing. Further, this monumental idiot refused to send my dental records to VCU and does not know how to construct a grammatically correct email. Punctuation & spelling... hellew??? Dr. Tatum did not even initially apply bonding to the exposed root that her shoddy crown left me with after it broke. I had to make an appointment and quite literally demand that even this remedial protocol be followed. She knew very well what was at stake. Not to mention the PAIN. She never even followed up, & until last week had ZERO clue that I was no longer a patient. AVOID AVOID AVOID SHE WILL JACK UP YOUR GRILL! I am in good hands now with the dentists & surgeons at VCU Faculty Practice. *UPDATE 9/21* Great news!!! :D A total of EIGHT MOLARS also need to be replaced with prosthetic implants over the course of the next year. This is beyond ineptitude. This woman, LISA TATUM, should be stripped of her license and all credentials. She certainly won't be getting another job like the one she was entrusted with when she vied for the contract for my care. This is an absolute disgrace!

I am not qualified to pass judgement on a physician's professional competence in the field he or…read moreshe practices. I am a trained social scientist with a PhD, not a medical doctor with an MD. I can only relate my experience. I was referred to Dr. Corey C. Burgoyne by my dentist for a simple extraction of a back tooth. Why? Because he did not do extractions. After paying--up front!--a so-called "consultation fee," which proved to be no more than to tell me how many hundred dollars she would receive for extracting the tooth--which also had to be paid right then--she proceeded to numb the area and pull the tooth in the same manner as any dentist. It took only a few minutes. I smiled, as best I could with my jaw numbed, and asked if she got it all out. She said, "Yes!" It became evident, after a few weeks, that she did not in fact get all of the tooth out. A piece of tooth worked its way to the surface. Now that is really not all that unusual. It does happen. So, I went back to Dr. Burgoyne. She took a tweezers and pulled it out. Again, I asked if she got it all out. Again, she answered, "Yes." After a couple of months, it became apparent that a rather large piece of tooth was left firmly in place. Tissue had grown over it, but when I had a partial denture made, the presence of the piece of bone became very apparent. I called Dr. Burgoyne's office to make an appointment for her to finish the job she had started, only to find out that I would have to schedule another so-called consultation to find out just how much it was going to cost me for her to finish the job she failed to successfully complete earlier. And of course, the hundred bucks consultation fee, plus whatever she chose to charge to finish the extraction, would all no doubt need to be paid in advance. Immediately, I wondered if I would be paying in advance for another "attempt" to remove the remaining piece of tooth. After two tries, would she get it right the third time? And why should I pay to have the attempt at extracting the tooth finished, or done right, however one looks at it? Looking at other reviews of Dr. Burgoyne's work, mine was not the only time she failed to remove the whole tooth. Dr. Burgoyne has relieved many positive reviews, even some very glowing reviews. She is not a general dentist, but a surgeon. As a specialist, she deserves to be paid for her expertise. Perhaps she is better at serious surgery than simple tooth extractions. Perhaps she finds pulling a tooth too simple. I cannot say. I can only look back on my experience wishing I had not been referred to her. I needed a dentist who could pull a tooth. Dr. Burgoyne seemed to be more concerned about how many excuses she could find to add additional charges, a hundred for this, a couple more for that, etc. My experience has left me with no confidence in Dr. Burgoyne, and I would not recommend her, not even for a simple tooth extraction.

It all started with the young lady Emily that booked my surgery. My schedule is not flexible due to traveling for work. It literally took her 15 minutes to find me an appointment time that was convenient for myself and Dr. Burgoyne. The procedure and heal time went better than expected. In every-way all my expectations were exceeded. I would recommend anyone in need of their services to give them a call.
