Their policy requires that a patient have someone drive them to the appointment, remain in the waiting room for the entire procedure, and then drive them home. This effectively means that anyone without a spouse, family member, or close friend available during weekday business hours is denied care--not for any medical reason, but simply because they are alone. I'm not asking for special treatment; I'm asking not to be excluded from care because of my personal circumstances. Denying a necessary medical procedure to someone based on whether or not they have a companion is discriminatory and deeply unjust.

Dr. DeCastro is a gem--smart, caring, and willing to spend the time it takes to listen to you and search for answers to problems that aren't immediately apparent. Although she is very much Western and academic in her approach, she doesn't dismiss the benefits of alternative medical therapies, assuming there is research to support them. I get all of my tests, xrays, etc done through an MUSC location. Their online portal is really helpful and easy to use. The doctors at this site are awesome- they truly care about you and will do any and everything to get to the bottom of your issue. The front office staff are all so friendly and helpful from making the appointment, to checking in/out and with any billing questions you have later on. They always get me in as soon as possible, I never have to wait to be seen. No issue is too small to be seen.

She was very thorough in her review of my initial questionnaire and in her follow up questions based on my responses. My second visit was just as great and I was extremely satisfied with the lab results and the treatment plan prescribed. The rest of the office staff are so friendly and welcoming. I had to bring my toddler with me and he is all over the place and they were so understanding and tolerant of him. They accommodated my son and me and I am so grateful. For a medical center that has signs posted on their front door claiming they are taking precautions against COVID, I was alarmed the office was not promoting mask use. I thought this misfortune would end at the door, yet when Melissa Altman RN then met me for my appointment and was also not wearing one at all, she told me I could take mine off if it made me feel comfortable which obviously it did not and she didn't put on a mask to meet my comfort level displayed. They know their stuff, and I never had a bad PA or MA in my entire 1.5 years going here. However, I needed a biopsy of my thyroid and the way in which I was treated by Dr. Henderson has me hesitant to recommend them, regardless of what they know. I went in for the biopsy fine, and left in tears. Since then, I've learned that I am not as sensitive to numbing agents as most people (meaning I require more than the average person). I was numbed up, but when she went to get the biopsy I could still feel the needle, and I told her that. She then got very annoyed with me, to the point that even her assistant in the room with us said maybe they should numb me more. Dr. Henderson responded (nastily) that I just needed to "SIT STILL." I kept telling her I could feel it and she finally huffed and stopped trying. Said I would need to be put to sleep to have one done in the future. I've been to other specialists since then and have not had experiences even CLOSE to that. Save yourself the stress of bad bedside manner. You don't have to let a doctor talk down to you just because they're an "expert." I hope for the sake of other patients things have changed. I know plenty of people have had fine experiences, but that's mine and I wanted to share it.
