Best church ever!! Not afraid to speak/stand for the truth! We love Pastor Steve Smothermon

I took my children there years ago because I felt they needed religion and I grew up Catholic and had attended Christian churches before. First thing you get hit with walking in is the selling. Book shop, coffee shop, merch... Being lower income, I couldn't tithe much so I would care for the babies in the nursery and watch the service on the tv in there. I was asked to help with the toddlers once, and was very surprised to hear the woman running the toddler program ask these 2-3 yo children for offerings, and she then went on to explain to them the difference between tithes and offerings. They were barely able to articulate bathroom urges, but were expected to comprehend tithes and offerings. I once had to ask for help with a utility bill due to a shutoff notice and was told I wasn't tithing enough and was told I should include Food Stamp income in my tithing. During services, they were constantly asking the congregants for offerings. At the time I was there, it was to buy infrared cameras for the fire department. Not for the station next to the church here in Albuquerque, but the one in Rio Rancho, where the pastor lived at the time. They built a tiny, child-sized indoor town on their Albuquerque campus - complete with storefronts, sidewalks, streets and streetlights. It was at the back of the building. They also bought the Verizon call center across the street and opened a private school. City police are dealing with their traffic every Sunday on taxpayer dollars. Now for the sermons - very much not what Jesus taught. Very right wing mentality, anti-LGBTQ messages (ie: don't eat at McDonald's because their employees can get gender reassignment surgery through their insurance). The icing on the cake for me was this past February, at their annual dance for people on the DD waiver. It was held on the 13th. It started at 6pm. It was pouring rain. Disabled people who were supposed to be attending a "Special Needs Prom" were left standing out in the rain for at least an hour. Medically fragile people in wheelchairs were left to be out in the rain until the doors opened. The entire event was a logistical nightmare obviously planned by neurodivergent people who have no idea how to accommodate people with disabilities. The "red carpet" was soaked through. The name of the event had been changed from Night to Shine to Night of Dreams but no one had informed the woman making announcements at the main entrance, and they were still handing out Night to Shine merch, which maybe should have been given back to the Tim Tebow foundation. We were finally let in to a huge room with rows of tables (think Hogwarts) and had to hurry to eat so they could have more people come in, then we had to go outside and walk all the way around to the back of the building to pick up a name badge because you couldn't get in without it, so pre-registration did no one any favors really, then back through a long hallway where the line was held up because they decided to put a photo backdrop halfway through so we were in line forever. Finally got into the dance and it's like a nightclub (flashing lights, fog machine) which means seizure inducing and music so loud you couldn't have a conversation. No seats for caregivers/CCS providers to rest while keeping an eye on their clients. Then there was the security detail. Very TX MAGA good ol' boy looking guys with their uniforms of khakis, black polo shirts, Stetsons and boots. I kept expecting ICE to show up. Jesus would be flipping some tables at this church. read more

We love this church and Pastor Steve is truly one of a kind! He preaches straight from the Bible--no fluff, just truth. Church isn't a museum for perfect people; it's a hospital for the hurting. In a dark world, Albuquerque needs light, and that's exactly what this church brings. Whether it's selling burritos, using concert lights, or speaking hard truths, it's all about reaching people for Jesus. Many people come to know Jesus Christ here. That's what made us call this our home church and start serving. Saved people serve people. We live generously. An empty seat is a serious matter. We don't take--we multiply. I was thrilled to go to this church for first time in a long time because they has interpreter provided for deaf unfortunately I wasn't allowed to be there. Had already left the church and still causing more problems outside too. They're very impolite. Gracias for made me felt very unwelcome on 4/6/25. read more

Wish I could give more than 5 stars. Pastor Steve Smothermon doesn't preach the sugar-coated, watered down prosperity gospel that (sadly) so many churches preach. His teaching is practical, it's honest, and it's attainable. He shepherds his flock well and I'm honored to be a part of this church. The people of Legacy are WONDERFUL! They serve selflessly and minister the gospel throughout their community and the world. I've never experienced a culture like this. This is a Bible believing church that stands on the front lines for the kingdom of God and will not submit to the culture. If you're looking for a church home, here it is!! read more

I was interesting in participating in some way with a jail ministry and searched google to find a church I might be able to work with. I found that Legacy has a jail ministry of some sort so I decided to learn a little about them by watching one of their Sunday services on TV. I was greatly disappointed that half what the pastor said was barely concealed hate for political liberals. I turned it off after 20 minutes or so. If you are a MAGA enthusiast you will probably be happy here. But if you would rather hear about God's love for you and how to live in a Christ-like manner I think you would be happier elsewhere. read more

Pastor Smotherman speaks the Truth, takes a stand for the Kingdom, and is such a faithful leader...even when it upsets people. My mom passed away so we've been doing donations well me and my daughter were stand on the other side of the fence not in there side well the security was a prick sorry for my language. But we weren't on church property and he comes yelling at us we got permission and I said you guys are a church and said you still have to get permission I said I'm not on your property then he started telling car not to give us money we dressed up I'm with my 13 year old daughter . Then he started taking pictures of us then he starts taking pictures of my car . So we left but that was so messed up my mom died we didn't come from the street asking for drugs we are trying to Barry our mom . It's been almost two months because of everything we've been running into and coming up with 7000 just to cremate her . I'm very thankful for the people that donated it mean so much to our family . read more

I watch every Sunday and listen during the week to strengthen me in my walk with Christ. Steve teaches straight from the Bible and speaks the truth. In town for business. I did some research to find one of the most popular large churches in the Albuquerque area and that led me to Legacy. I left feeling sad and disappointed. If you consider yourself extremely conservative and right-wing politically and are looking for an EXCLUSIVE church as opposed to inclusive, then maybe this is the place for you. Because that's what 60% of the pastor's message was the Sunday I visited. He even said the exact phrase... "Liberals are demonic". I'm a Christian with a deep faith in Christ, but I do NOT believe in excluding any group or making such blanket judgemental statements. Highly disappointed in this pastor's message and divisive comments. I should have chosen a different church to visit. read more

Was denied being able to attend services do to having a certified service animal. Staff was very disrespectful and dismissive of my daughter's need and her disabilities. This was our first time visiting the church after watching online since we relocated from out of state. Very disappointing, we will still be looking for a home church here in New Mexico. read more

If you want God's TRUTH, you will hear it and learn from it at this church. The pastors here want you to learn and they don't stand up at the pulpit and preach to make you feel good. If it is biblical, they preach it and teach it, if it is not biblical they will let you know and they don't worry about losing people that don't want to hear God's TRUTH. Many people say that our church is too political. Not only does our Pastor Steve Smothermon preach on the Word of God, but he speaks the truth of what is happening in our state. Where else would you know the truth of the politicians that are running our state into the ground, for we are last of everything. And how they have destroyed it for their own gain? If you are a follower of Christ and the Word of God, you want to know who will do the right thing for our state and it's citizens. And being a person who is a follower of Jesus, you would know that someone who is ungodly will not be a good leader. Our current leadership has embraced the killing of babies up to birth. That is the evil thinking of Satan. And so Pastor Steves preaches the truth and the true word of God. the problems with preachers today is they do not preach the truth. For a sin is sin and right is right and wrong is wrong. Sometimes they have a choir for the old time church feel. This church has a heart for the lost and it is evident by the ministries that they have. I listen to almost every teaching that Pastor Steve puts out. I am not a current member of this church but I feel very connected to it because of the teachings. Yes it is true that this Church is political, but what is said is spot on. All of these other reviews which are negative are political in essence and talking about wearing masks not wearing masks getting vaccinated etc. etc. If the people that are making these comments would do their research they would find that the mRNA strain which makes up the vaccine came from a very dark place. I watch online from all over the United States. My husband is an owner op truck driver and I'm his copilot. We listen to several ministries during the week and this one provides biblical truths. Obviously, by the reviews. I read through the negative comments and if you know your word, you know exactly what category these folks fall into. You know what type of ground seeds fall on by what comes out of their mouths (or fingertips). These people are not desiring to grow but rather prefer for their ears to be tickled. As far as politics go, it's what's happening in our country today so it should be talked about behind a pulpit. Believers should be involved in politics! Scriptural principles exist for both our personal and our political dilemmas. This ministry teaches how to vote according to biblical mandates and authority and they expose the darkness within our government - local, state, and federal. Why? Because voting is a critical opportunity for believers to promote God's word and His values through whom they elect. I encourage you to press play or show up for service and ignore the demons who sit in pews. read more

Someone said that the minister is bigoted against the LGBT group. Well, the Bible says that it is sin for women to sleep with women and men to sleep with men. So, it's really the Lord that you have the issue with as He set the rules. Most Christians are perfectly kind to all the lesbians and gay men we meet. But, we are told to tell the truth and the truth is that God has certain rules so don't blame this pastor or Christians. God loves you but He has rules. So, if you are LGBT, God wants a personal relationship with you and you need to discuss all this with your Heavenly Father. read more

My favorite thing about Legacy Church is seeing lives changed! There is an altar call after every service and you can get baptized! Anyone can walk in, hear wonderful godly worship and a scriptural sound message, (there is an awesome hearing impaired ministry too), and meet the nicest people you will ever meet! I love that they encourage everyone to tithe and serve in the ministry because going to church is nice but being a part of the church is awesome! Knowing God is using me to change someone's life for eternity gives me a sense of purpose that gives me joy and peace. I love that my tithe and gifts are growing the kingdom and that by serving someone's life can be transformed, like mine was. I suppose there are other churches out there, I know I went to them too. But when I came here I was greeted, felt welcome, and... if I can't make service I can always livestream the service on my phone! I love my online friends and hosts! My experience here at Legacy, the friends I've made, the things I've learned and the part God has allowed me to play in changing lives in Albuquerque has truely blessed me and my family. You can't ever out give God, He is so good to us. My experience at this church has been life-changing, I've laughed, cried, learned about God, worshipped, praised, met wonderful people and have seen people's lives get transformed. I used to go to this church when it was Victory Love Fellowship. Pastor Rob Carman was an awesome pastor. The current leadership and atmosphere is not the same. The teachings are more politically centric and geared to the base conservative than all inclusive as it used to be. I understand change but not in going backward but forward. The previous 2 comments remind me of when I went to a catholic church for a friend's funeral and was amazed at the lack of biblical knowledge. It is not a great church, but it is not a bad church. Like so many churches these days, I am reminded of Christ going into the temple and tossing out all the vendors hawking their goods...I just don't know anymore. read more
