For me (with a dislike of needles) I have an entire routine to get my zen-on. In the days 'before' I would get the tea offered at the front counter, pay for my treatment, have the choice of one of the multiple beds or chairs and I could choose a comfy blanket from the front rack to get snuggly into the generous treatment time. NOW post-apocalypse I am masked, there is no tea although perhaps I could bring my own but really I can't recall how I even managed tea with the treatment needles so no real loss there. The beds are gone but the chairs remain at WELL spaced intervals and again NO loss cause my body (that lives with disability) always chose the chairs anyway. Did I mentioned these are leather (or pleather) reclining chairs as in you could practically go horizontal if you choose. Group blankets are gone but meh maybe it was their time anyway- now I bring my Own snuggly blanket of choice. Once you scuttle into the bathroom for handwashing you are good to go to let the mellow music take you to your happy place and kick back for your choice of relaxing timeframes. I am kinda double-masked in that my eye mask helps with my extra 'needle' tension so I'm Very well sealed in my own private Idonknow. If I'm missing their scented eye shields well that is an easy fix with a bring your own option. ALL in all, COVID has not kept this team down from pivoting and providing lots of workable options to let the pressure out and find some peace.

Each room is relaxing with tranquil or spa music being played (playlist is dependent on each practitioner). There is a basket to put your clothes and phone in the acupuncture treatment room. I see Dr Koh for acupuncture and she is wonderful. Very caring and she listens to your concern. In the past, I dislike needles so she usually uses baby needles or does more cupping on me. Now I still dislike needles but can tolerate them more, so I think she uses the regular needles on me now. Besides just cupping and acupuncture, she is a TCM, so she also takes my pulse to check how my organs/body are doing. She has suggested taking supplements and medicinal tea or avoiding certain food to help with the ailments. The front desk staff is always very friendly. Paid street parking out front. When I sat up, Catherine commented, "Oh, I'm surprised you have core." I found this remark insulting and humiliating. Her comment about my body was bad enough, but her response and the way she spoke to me were absolutely disgusting. I left the interaction feeling disrespected and judged rather than treated with the professionalism and dignity I deserved. I was also uncomfortable with her comparing her own neck pain to my situation, despite my having a medical condition that significantly affects my spine. I explained in my follow-up email at the time that everyone's experience of pain and physical limitations is different. Comparing her own pain to mine came across as dismissive of my actual medical circumstances. A functional capacity evaluation should be conducted with professionalism, objectivity, and respect. People with disabilities should not have to tolerate inappropriate remarks about their bodies or feel that their physical limitations are being minimized by the person responsible for assessing them. What makes this particularly upsetting is that I raised concerns in writing immediately following the evaluation. Yet, well over a year later, I still remember how Catherine made me feel. That is not the impression someone in this position should leave on a client. I work in this industry myself, and I understand the importance of treating people with dignity, empathy, and respect. In my opinion, Catherine's conduct fell far below those standards. I am sharing my experience because people with disabilities deserve to be treated professionally, not made to feel embarrassed, belittled, or disrespected when seeking an assessment.

I saw that there was a sign on the door saying their reception doesn't start until 9am, their sign was inside and there was no one at reception. No one answered or came out when I rang the buzzer so I left. I assumed they had closed because of the snow. The appointment reminder email I received had no information about reception starting at 9am. The email did said don't show up more than 5 minutes before your appointment but then someone should open the door. I couldn't go back because I had gotten a ride there and didn't have time to wait around for someone to maybe open the door because the person dropping me off had somewhere to be. I called within 10 minutes and got charged a no-show fee even though I was there, just no one opened the door. I'm not waiting around in the snow for a business that should be open to open the door for me when they look closed and empty, especially if I had booked an appointment well in advance. The receptionist said, "It's JUST $30 plus GST." That's still money and your staff may have lost money but so did I - I had to take extra time off work and waste time commuting. Perhaps consider staffing the office appropriately at appointment times instead of making clients pay the price of your ineptitude. Take responsibility for your mistakes and poor planning.

I found it a little unusual they has no receptionist, I walked into an empty office and waited a good 15 minutes by myself before Amy the RMT was done her current appointment. Appointments are booked back to back to mine was delayed while Amy set up the room for my appointment and checked voice mails, I wasn't very impressed by this since I was on my lunch break but I understand appointments aren't always on time. The treatment itself was relaxing and hit all the troublesome areas, she does not treat as deep as some other RMT's I have been to but I still felt great after. She offered stretches to reduce strain and tension on my neck and shoulders. I had bought an Ethical Deal voucher and I was surprised that she didn't really try to bring me on as a client. She gave me a business card but that was it, I would be more inclined to go back had she recommended I return for further treatment (which I know I need.)

So, over the winter I developed what I like to call "gammy hand", more commonly known as eczema. I was shocked when these little blisters started forming under the skin on my palm and it became dry and flaky. Feeling like somewhat of a freak I shuffled over to my local walk-in clinic. After a brief 10 minute glance-over the GP told me that this type of eczema was a "Vancouver thing" and that "loads of people get it" and wrote me a prescription for a steroid cream. "Rub this on it for 1 - 2 weeks and come back if it doesn't work". Hmpf. After 3 weeks of using it, it was mildly better, but certainly not gone. I felt a little disillusioned, especially after reading that prolonged use of steroid creams thins your skin! Yuck! Enter Harris Fisher TCMp, a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine at Klinik. I was skeptical, but millions of Chinese people with thousands of years of knowledge can't be wrong....right? Harris cares very genuinely about his patients and has a focus on treating the cause of a health issue, not just the symptoms. His bedside manner is exceptional and he is genuinely just a nice, down to earth guy. Harris sent me away with some pills to take, some herbs to be mixed with water and some instructions on foods to avoid for a 10 - 15 days period. Within 24 HOURS I saw a huge improvement in my hand. I was amazed! 4 days later it is well on the path to a full recovery. I have never thought to use Chinese medicine but now I am a believer! I would highly recommend Harris and his practice.
