There are two McDonalds restaurants in Barrow - one situated on the Hollywood Park retail park, and…read morethis one which is right in the middle of the town centre, so very handy. They do all the usual fast food/'junk food' that McDonalds is known for - burgers, chips, chicken nuggets and fizzy drinks - at fairly reasonable prices. They have also made moves to become a bit healthier over the last couple of years though, which is great - you can now also get salads, deli sandwiches, fresh fruit portions, carrot sticks and fruit juice. It's really good to have the healthier options alongside the usual stuff. They have an upstairs floor too so you can watch the world go by out of the upstairs windows, and cater for childrens parties upstairs too. This restaurant has recently had a makeover, and is done out in funny khaki and orange coloursit isn't to my taste, and everyone I've spoken to thinks it looks better before! They've gone for a very modern funky look but it can make your eyes hurt after a while. For reasons known only to McDonalds, they've also taken out some of the smaller tables and added one big long table by the counter - great for big groups, but it means you often end up having to sit right next to a stranger if there are no smaller tables free. Unfortunately also, this branch is a bit of a magnet for screaming teenagers and 'chavs', who like to congregate outside at the weekends. Cheap and cheerful food for an occasional visit, but it's not somewhere I'd want to go very often!

Cooking oil needs changing more frequently you can smell it outside. What happened to crisp, freshly cooked, fast food? Answer it came to Barrow.

Barrow's KFC is situated on Hollywood Park, along with other fast food restaurants such as…read moreMcDonalds and Pizza Hut. Lots of parking, due to it being on a retail park, and it's very easy to get to - 5 minutes or so from the town centre. It is always busy and popular, especially with families due to the bargain bucket deals they do - you can feed a family of 4 for £10 with their deals, including drinks and ice-cream The staff are always helpful and friendly, and deal with your order quickly. As for the food itself, the fried chicken pieces can be quite stodgy and greasy, but I suppose people don't go there for healthy food anyway do they! Their chips and beans are lovely, as is the popcorn chicken they do - little balls of chicken in a breadcrumb coating, which come in a little box, they're ideal for children who don't like the 'chicken pieces' that you get in the buckets. They also do a variety of chicken burgers, drinks, ice-creams etc. You can eat in the restaurant, which is spacious and clean, or there's also a drive-through section if you're in a rush. I wouldn't want to eat there often as it's fairly unhealthy, but a good family restaurant for an occasional treat. If you park in one of Barrow's town centre pay-and-display car parks, there are quite often money-off vouchers for KFC on the back of the ticket, so it's worth watching out for them!
