Each time I visit I am taken back to a time when high tea was not only expected but proper. The scones are absolutely to die for! Freshly made, onsite. The sandwiches, teas, and bubbly are always spot on. Service is just what you would expect. Proper and welcoming. And I really wanted to be…read more First the positive. - nice location inside the gay village (yes that the official name of the neighborhood ) - very nice and friendly staff and waiter. - good selection of teas and the teas have been tasty. But now to the rest a teatime should be sacred time with loved once an hour to relax calm down and enjoy good tea and food. We had the queens tea and it comes as a full high tea with scones, sandwiches and sweets. While the service - as already mentioned was great (they switched one set to vegetarian sandwiches) - the sandwiches have not been. The toast was a bit try on the edges and the actual spread and creations have been lackluster to be friendly. The chickpea vegetarian was the best by far. The scones clearly made in house fresh and really good tasting. But they have been more like a bead bun in consistency- but together with the clotted cream very very good. Just not really scones. This tea room also did disappointed me with just serving a tiny glass of industrial made strawberry preserves. They also only serve one "scone" per person and did not offered any more sandwiches or scones. And then finally the "sweets" the Richmond tea room takes that word very very literal. Besides a macaron and a little passionfruit tartlet they served two pieces of cake that have both been tasting like sugar only. While looking ok they just had no taste whatsoever other than just being overly sweet. No fruit flavor or distinctive taste. Since I left mine untouched since they were just not good maybe that why they don't offered more sandwiches or scones. All in all it was just not the teatime I was looking for spending with my husband as quality time we slowed down drinking the tea but we did not really enjoyed the food and that messed up the experience. Sadly. Starting with five stars I'll take one of for the stall sandwiches, another one for uninspired sweets and a third for the jam and overall price / quality relations. Since I would have lived with it when it would have been a cheap teatime in a restaurant, but it's a location that ha w tea room even in the name.

I was impressed to see Chinese teas I don't typically find in tea houses (outside of China). Food menu is also impressive as well. I went with a group of five and we couldn't have ordered more different items. Seemed like everyone enjoyed their meal. They have both a cafe menu (salads, sandwiches, etc). They also have a traditional polish menu. I tried the golabki (stuffed cabbage with rice and pork in a tomato sauce) which came with a choice of potato (I chose dumplings) and salads/slaws. Very nice! Huge portion and could easily feed 2. Tasty hot stuffed cabbage paired nicely with the bright crunchy herbaceous slaws.

The range of teas is astounding and the quality (of the many I tried on my many visits) is amazing. Each tea is served in it's proper manner in beautiful teapots and cups. If you're not into weird and wonderful teas, they also have coffee and 'regular' tea on the menu aswell as juices, smoothies and other soft drinks. There is no need for you to be afraid of a new tea drinking experience though, as the staff are extremely knowledgeable (seriously, they know EVERYTHING about tea!) pleasant and very accomodating. They agreed to host my vegan society meetings and even made an effort to make the menu a little more vegan. I only tried one of the food items on the menu, this was tomato stew/soup with vegetables. I forget the name but recall it was Hungarian. Either way, it was delicious, just as I hear that all their food is from my friends. This ranges from toasties and sandwiches to more substantial dishes hailing from the owner's native Poland and other places around Europe. Other than the great drinks, food and service the place is nicely decorated and makes you feel a million miles away from the Preston high street. There is always some background music on but you would only really notice it if you listened out for it. All in all it makes for a very relaxing atmosphere, especially if you get some Yerba maté! If you're local to Preston and haven't sampled the delights of the Mystery Tea House then you ought to, right now. You'll soon be a regular. Great sitting area and they also have free wifi if you ask for the code! Fresh cakes are made each day and there's a good selection of coffees so you can choose the blend for you! April 1st - Certainly not an April Fool!…read more For our wedding anniversary we attended The Village Tearoom's first evening opening as a bistro. The first of three I believe, as test evening events. Well if the Tapas Takeover event was a taste of things to come then we can't wait for the next ! Congrats to local chefs Mark Long & Matthew Agass for the tremendous food, Liz Singleton for the amazing entertainment set, the hard work of the staff during the evening , not to mention the hosts Jackie & Martyn for their warm welcome and letting it all happen. All in all a great evening, good luck for the future and hope it takes off for you all!

During the day you can lounge around here, work on your computer (as there's free internet access) or just sit back and read the paper or browse the bookshop. They offer a full range of teas and cakes as well as a homely food menu and in the evening there's wonderful music, world beers served and special events including art exhibitions. One thing I would say is the choice of teas are quite limiting. In fact i find their coffee much better. I'd still be in here every day though if I lived locally.

The prices where reasonable and the menu included snacks like soup of day and paninis and such. When out for a walk in the area I will surely visit here for a good old cuppa.

The espresso I had definitely packed a punch (double for £2) and my wife enjoyed her Cappuccino (£2.20). We've been here for tea and coffee a few times but this was the first time we came here to eat. To say it was busy would be an understatement! The queue for the counter was huge, but it just gave us more time to admire the wonderful looking cakes and sandwiches on display. We went for the "gourmet burgers" which were absolutely delicious, coming with fries, salad and homemade coleslaw. They also had a really nice salsa on them too. We had tea to drink which came in nice cups with a Heaton Park logo on them. Unfortunately when we visited there was some construction taking place which meant we couldn't sit outside, and there wasn't really enough seating inside when it was really busy. Just a temporary problem though - I guess the place is a victim of its own success! Also, the service at the counter was quite slow for no obvious reason, but not enough to deter us from coming back!

You can tell that the venue will have been either an old shop or old cottage at one point, given that there are two chimney breasts, one of which is still used and showcases a wonderful roaring open fireplace, which on cold winter days is a godsend, and warms you up pretty quickly! It's quite a small venue, and is no-frills in the decor and furnishing, but it makes up for it with tasty food, excellent value, and friendly down-to-earth customer service. Definitely one to pop into for a quick lunch :)
