Our son has been a student at House at Pooh Corner for a year now and I can say that this is a…read morespecial school. There are many things I like about this school--the love and patience shown by the teachers, the intentional community-building, the inclusive atmosphere--but what really sets it apart to me is thought and care that goes into the design of the educational experience. I am a teacher, and I think a lot about how an educator's vision affects how students learn. My experience has been that many daycare centers either lack any educational vision at all, or else teach a "canned" curriculum devised by an institution outside the school. Not so at Pooh Corner. The educational director works with the teachers to develop a curriculum that is appropriate for THESE SPECIFIC KIDS and reflects their interests. They do special projects based on whatever the kids are excited about--my son's class did a project on shoes, and then another on "gravity" (things going up and falling down). The kids get exposure to lots of different kinds of learning experiences. They have a weekly science class that involves gardening, composting, and bugs. This is not just "experiential" science either--they collect data on their plants (I don't think they call it that, but that's what it is) and compare the ones growing inside and outside! There are options like Spanish class and dance class as well. This is all in the context of lots of free play with a great outdoor playspace, as well as time for physical skills, reading, letters, and numbers. However even the letters and numbers are incorporated thoughtfully into the things that the kids are interested in. The school works as a team with families on big changes like potty training--it made it so easy for us, I think he went from diapers to underpants in two days. They also encourage kids to do as much as possible by themselves, which helps them to be independent.

After a very disappointing experience at another daycare, I can confidently say that House at Pooh…read moreCorner is everything you want and can expect from a daycare. We send our current toddler there, and we plan to send our future infant there as well. (And we plan to have them grow through each class within the center.) The daycare is well staffed and has floating staff, so each room is always equipped with the minimum (often more than) number staff required for each age group. This helps the staff morale, as it seems that no one is over or underworked. The staff is friendly, knowledgable and truly cares about the children and the community. And many staff members have been there for many years (some are former students of Pooh Corner). Notable Pros: -Staff members are ALWAYS "on the floor". They are never sitting in a chair and on cell phones (unfortunately, many other daycares accept this). Staff are actively involved and playing with and teaching the children. -Lesson plans are sent through email weekly. Other emails are sent with pictures of events and other things that the community is involved in. -There is a strong community mentality. Pooh Corner is a welcoming community with many volunteer events, art shows, and social events (at the center and at parents' homes). -Everybody knows everyone else. Because of the movement of staff floaters and the community mentality, everyone knows my wife, my daughter and me, when I walk in (from the director, to the pre-school teachers, to all of my daughter's teachers in the toddler room). This truly makes me feel like my daughter is in safe and caring hands. -Outdoor play everyday (weather permitting). They have a wonderful playground and do things like water play in the summer. -They have a focus on sustainable practices and organic materials. They welcome cloth diapers provide organic sunscreen and bug spray during the spring/summer.

Everyday I picked him up they would give me a bag saying he had an accident and his diaper was always full when I picked him up. They say they use the bathroom every 25 minutes but clearly that's not the case. Don't accept a two year old still trying to learn to use the potty if your not going to take the time to change him. Everyday most of the diapers I sent were still in his bag so I know they weren't changing him. I went in with a copay approved by CCIS but instead they charged me more than double the amount. They charged me 40 dollars for a late fee that I did not understand but paid anyway. I decided that the daycare was not going to be a good fit for my family and alerted them on WED. that my kids would not be coming back after Friday and was met with an "ok" from Megan. The next day I went in Megan decided to pull me to the side and tell me that she knew I was upset and that she would refund the late fee and waive it for me if I would continue to keep my sons there. I declined. There was no way in hell my kids were staying. Upon trying to leave the daycare I was told that I would have to pay for another 3 weeks because they require a three weeks notice if you are pulling your kids out. However my kids were in there for 1 "PAID IN FULL" week. I gave my notice on that Wed and that was all they were going to get. In talking to my case worker I was told that they informed her I never paid anything since putting my kids in the daycare which was a complete lie and I have the receipts to prove it. The nicest thing about the daycare is the look of it. My kids will never step foot in your shitty ass excuse for a daycare. You're not different from any other daycare, in fact, you're probably worse than every other daycare I've been to. My sons learned nothing, and please don't say that's because it was only a week. My kids learn things in one day and learned a ton in 2 days at a different daycare. My advice to anyone looking into this daycare, look elsewhere, you can do better and your child deserves better.

We believe that inorder for that journey to be successful, every child must develop, what we call the four key skills: Reading, Math , Science, and the Arts The Germantown Day School (GDS) is a place where children learn these four key skills...first. We emphasize learning over baby-sitting. We emphasize the development of an early appreciation for learning that is critical to a child's future academic success. Every child can benefit, and is welcome, to benefit from our GDS philosophy of a fun, but structured and committed, learning program.

It's also a very warm center, where each kid gets a lot of individual love and attention. I also appreciate that all of the staff is fully vaccinated - which is surprisingly hard to find. The issue with this business is the LACK of customer service, starting with the owner. Very unprofessional with how she deals with people. She is a money hungry individual and her care for money overshawdows everything else. When I attempted to speak with her about the lack of customer service she has she advised that is something that can be worked on later on down the line and as long as the children received a good education that is all that really mattered. I understand the education is important but so is the respect shown to the people who PAY for the education. She also shows a great deal of favortism to the children of her friends that attend the school. There are many stories I could tell about this women, as her staff along with herself gossip about one another; as well as talk about other parents. My daughter used to attend until she was hurt at the playground recently. They took the kids to the playground in 39 degree weather and they failed to put a hat on my child. She fell coming off the slide and got cut pretty badly in the middle of her head. The owner showed the BARE minimum sympathy for my child and used the excuse that kids get hurt.

While we are excited for the future, this transition is bittersweet as we will truly miss this special community. My son is well-prepared for kindergarten this fall, and we could not have asked for a better academic and social foundation. The professional tone of the school is set the moment you arrive, where we are greeted by Mr. Hassan every morning. His presence at the secure buzz-in entry door makes the start of each day feel safe and welcoming. Upon entering the pre-K wing, the environment is always clean and inviting, with bulletin boards and displays updated regularly to showcase the seasons. This high level of organization is a direct testament to the leadership of the Center Director, Ms. Simpson, whose clear systems and procedures ensure the school is well-managed. Working alongside her, Ms. Collins does a fantastic job managing the administrative side, ensuring all student records are updated and that family communications and event reminders are posted in a timely fashion. Anytime I have reached out to any of the staff members, my calls and requests have been handled with a prompt, professional response. The entire staff is incredibly loving, and that warmth is felt every day in the calm, orderly atmosphere of the classroom. My son is greeted warmly every morning by his teachers and classmates, fostering a strong sense of belonging that has been wonderful to witness. One of the many highlights of our experience has been the teaching team of Mrs. Nichols and her assistant, Ms. Shelly. Together, they are a fantastic pair who maintain a classroom that is both joyful and project-based. We loved that the curriculum focuses on hands-on projects, which kept our son excited about learning every single day. For working parents, the before and after care programs are an added convenience that we truly appreciated. Furthermore, Mrs. Nichols provides weekly homework that helped us build our son's skills together at home, and the school's use of IXL and the Teaching Strategies app provided us with excellent resources to extend learning beyond the classroom. I especially valued how connected I felt to his progress through the regular photos and videos the teachers post, allowing us to see his engagement in real-time. Between the excellent classroom instruction and the fun field trips, our son has grown significantly in his social, emotional, and academic development. We are so grateful to Ms. Simpson, Ms. Collins, Mr. Hassan, Mrs. Nichols, Ms. Shelly, and Ms. Reham for making these last two years so memorable. If you are looking for a quality preschool experience that balances academic growth with a nurturing, loving, and structured environment, this is it!
