Loved this place. Cigars were good. The gentleman that helped me decide asked what I normally smoked and made great suggestions on what else I could smoke. The person that was at the register was friendly anf personable. Atmosphere was wonderful. I felt like I was somewhere other than Pittsburgh. Shared a table with people I didn't know and we had great conversation and shared some laughs. Will definitely be back. Oh and BYOB is a great thing too! read more

Leaf and Bean has been in Pittsburgh's Strip District for nearly as long as I've been gone from Pittsburgh. Many dismal chains try to make a hodgepodge of mass-produced garage sale crap look funky and fun. Leaf and Bean actually pulls it off--probably because it's their crap (and bona fide antiques) they've accumulated over 15 years in the Strip, and this is an aesthetic they like. The win is that all the finer things one may want in a coffee shop--a good breve, a selection of whole beans, a cooler with pop, a TV with the Bucs playing--are cradled in a humble jumble of other "important" stuff. For someone who has never been to Cuba, Leaf and Bean nails the Havana vibe. Most of the reason, of course, is the Leaf--for someone who doesn't smoke, they sell a huge selection of high-end cigars and are happy when a half-dozen guys sit in the doorway and smoke them. This place would probably be a haven for you if you enjoy smoking cigars. I, on the other hand, do not. Sorry for you peeps who enjoy a little puff on the stogie. But if you're like me, and you want to chill out at a coffee shop, do work there or just run in to get your coffee - or in my case - tea fix, it's not the place for you. Heck, even if you only run in, you run out smelling like you've smoked a thousand cigars, when you haven't even glanced at one in there. I went in once and it was enough for me to decide this wasn't the place for me. I couldn't even tell you what my tea was like because I knew I'd never be back. I'll hop down to 21st Street Coffee where it's more my speed. I could totally see someone loving this place if they were a cigar smoker. read more

I always swing in to a new cigar lounge when I travel. Most feel like your in the same place over and over after a while. Not this one! The cigars here are blended by a true master and are not to be missed. One of the best cigars I've ever had. Staff are extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Awesome coffee and cigar shop! Stopped by on a Friday night after dinner to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather. The coffee was memorable...I'd come back for this coffee alone. We know nothing about cigars and Zeke was very helpful...sharing information without making us feel stupid. He suggested a great, affordable cigar that the BF enjoyed very much. The atmosphere was really fun, with large groups who look like "regulars" hanging out, playing cards, and enjoying the pens game. I'll be back for sure! read more

Strip District staple. This little gem is a perfect spot for a relaxing morning or late afternoon on the weekend. The owner is very friendly and helpful. They have a large variety of cigars and a kind for everyone. The staff is very educated on the cigars that are offered and they are excities to help you. They also serve a nice variety of coffee drinks. During summer days they have live preforms that puts you in a great mood. read more

In either case, Leaf and Bean is the perfect place to sit back and relax over a freshly roasted coffee or puff away on a cigars from their large walk in humidor. A laid back Key West theme will let you get away from a dreary winter or whatever ails you, but only for a while. Don't expect to swing by at night for a post dinner cigar though since they close early, but baring that this is a great place in the strip to feed your addiction of choice. read more

My bff and I wandered into this gem on a late Spring Saturday afternoon and we were instantly transported to Key West. We ordered two iced chai lattes and we requested some help picking out a cigar to share. The gentleman behind the counter was kind of enough to give us a thorough explanation of their product, which is grown in Honduras, and didn't treat us like idiots. This is an eclectic mixture of a TGIFridays and a Cigar lounge. There are all kinds of crazy interesting things hanging all over the the walls, ceiling and floor.( Not unlike a TGIFridays) I especially loved the Motorcycle hanging from the ceiling and the claw foot bath tub. They have a nice-sized humidor and even have their own house brand cigars. I found an awesome article about them in THE CIGAR LOUNGER magazine. A great place for two ladies to get a latte after lunch. It is a cigar and coffee shop, so I am not sure that they are used to middle aged women poking around their store, but we had a blast. I've never had so much fun getting a cup of coffee! This was a first visit for me, but a staff with a sense of humor that can make a great latte will definitely see me returning this week. read more

When I want a taste of Key West, I now know where to go. We stumbled across this gem in the strip. The owner Jim has a great knowledge of cigars, and can point you in the right direction. The atmosphere of this place is something I crave when I am on vacation. When I told him that it reminded me of Key West, he replied that he used to live there, and It is his favorite place. You can sure see it. A great place to just sit back and meet some new people, or enjoy a cup of coffee. I wasn't a huge fan of their espresso, but that isn't the reason you come here. We were treated with unpatronizing respect from the knowledgeable staff, outstanding assistance while perusing the well stocked Humidor...Loved the BYOB setup, they allow you to keep your beer/beverage nice and cold while you relax, drink and smoke in one of the most eclectic environment's I've seen this far north. This is an earthy, convivial place in the Strip with a fine choice of cigars and very good coffee. A perfect location in a high traffic area. There is no pretense here. Just great cigars and coffee as well as good conversation. With all due respect for some of the reviewers here, why proceed to rate an establishment if it is not some place you would prefer to be in the first place. It's neither helpful nor productive for those who are looking for an honest review. This is a CIGAR and coffee joint. Cigars are a focal point of the business. Decent coffee shop and cigar store. Had a chai tea latte that was alright and an Acid Blondie which I appreciated get much. Good place to hang out with friends; also, it's BYOB so keep that in mind! The indoors decor is along the lines of "your one dorky uncle's garage," packed with a variety of vintage items and Hawaiian shirts. The smell of cigars is rather overpowering - I wish they had a better air ventilation system; after I left the establishment, the smoke smell was still very strong on my clothes. I've never been to cuba (stupid embargo) but based on my extensive knowledge from the two movies I've seen that have scenes set there, this is a little slice of Havana. In theory I want to like this place. There is a large walk-in humidor, and pairing coffee and cigars sounds so... so manly. You enter through large garage doors to a coffee bar and lots of comfortable seating areas in a dimly lit and enticing place. It seems as though Castro or Ché could walk in at any minute. This is the place, however, that got me off cigars. See, every time I've been here it feels humid and smoky and although there is a huge garage door, the smoke just lingers. I don't smoke cigars very often anymore at all, but if I'm going to go somewhere that people do, I'd prefer a place that is indoors with one of those high powered ventilation systems. A place where I can choose between an after dinner coffee and a scotch. On Saturdays in warm weather this place has live music (they may have that Sundays as well, I'm not sure) and that is a nice feature, but I personally cannot imagine trying to play and sing in a could. One note: in my matriculating days I smoked the occasional clove cigarette because I thought I was smart and, let's face it, smoking a clove is like smoking Christmas. I purchased a pack there one day and was sternly told if I wanted to smoke them i needed to go elsewhere because "It bothers the cigar smokers". As if...! Im giving this a 3-star rating because if you are into cigars and coffee this is a pretty cool place. I've mostly outgrown my cigar days and I don't like washing my clothes more than I need to so The Leaf and Bean has little draw to me anymore as there are far better smelling coffe places in the strip. If you like cigars though, check it out! You just may love it. read more

Great place in the strip district on 22nd st. They sell coffee and cigars and it's a BYOB place. People bring in beer, whiskey, wine, etc, but they also have a cooler with soft drinks for sale. On Saturdays, they have live music which is usually an acoustic performer or a small band. It's VERY smoky, but that's to be expected from a cigar bar. The lattes are excellent and they have a big walk in humidor with cigars for purchase or you can bring your own. In the summer, they open a big garage type door and they have outdoor seating. The place is covered with antiques and cool signs on the wall and ceiling and they have almost a tropical theme, but not overwhelming. There's plenty of seating (old barber chairs in the very back), a couple TVs, and they have all the supplies you would need for cigars - lighters, matches, cutters, lighter fluid, ash trays. We went to this coffee shop/cigar lounge in Pittsburgh's Strip District on a Saturday. It's a really cool place that has the flavor of Key West or South Florida. There was an acoustic guitarist when we were there who was very talented. They have a large selection of coffee and have a walk in humidor for all the cigar aficianados (and yes, smoking is permitted in the lounge). They have tables both outside and inside the shop. We loved the place and would definitely go back there again! read more
