This restaurant is a staple in Leccese dining and is fully deserving of a visit by anyone who is in the area. The decor and atmosphere are fantastic: Striped table cloths, wall decor, and the unmistakable sound of the doorbell that can be heard all around the dining room whenever a new customer enters the restaurant make the diner feel as if they are attending Sunday lunch at a family home.
The service is quick and attentive, with a few front of house staff expertly covering the small dining room. While the menu does not feature many options for vegetarians, staff were accommodating and helpful in dining suitable dishes.
Finally the food: traditional Salento executed flawlessly and with the care (or lack thereof, in the best possible way) of the most experienced of grandmas. Antipasti are chosen by the house depending on what's in season and are absolutely recommended for a taste of pugliese snacks like pittule (fried balls of dough). Primi are mainly pasta dishes (pasta is all house made), and secondi are mainly meat-based with some seafood options. The meatballs in a white wine sauce stand out among the latter. The more adventurous eaters will be able to try traditional horse meat roll-ups, a historical delicacy in Salento. read more
