Though I hoped never to stay in a Novotel again after a bad experience last year, a work trip…read morebrought me to this location. Unfortunately this experience was equally disappointing. Check-in was quick and efficient, but the problems started as soon as I got off the elevator at my floor. The hallways positively REEKED of cigarette smoke. All the rooms on this floor were meant to be non-smoking, yet the smell was overwhelming. I took shallow-breaths like you would on a dirty subway/metro platform. When I got to my room, it luckily did not smell as offensive, but it certainly felt like a smoked-out room that was masked with a lot of Febreeze; it was certainly tolerable though. The bathroom was a joke - it looked like something you would find next to a pool. The shower was separated literally just by a curtain, and when using it the entire bathroom flooded with water because of non-existent drainage. Additionally, bring your own toiletries - the shampoo and body wash is actually the same as the liquid hand-soap they supply. If you have sensitive skin, expect rashes. In a positive turn, the pillows were slightly better than in my last stay. Hopefully work never brings me here again.

I really enjoyed staying here. The only downside is that it's 30 minutes from the centre and the neighborhood isn't the nicest so if you wanna go out at night I would suggest taking a hotel closer to the center, if you're OK with spending your days in the center and spending your nights relaxing in the hotel this place is a good option.

It was a lovely room, a lively area with just a 10 - 15 minute walk from a train station and the metro station (Gabriel père), and the atmosphere and staff were lively! The guy at the desk was so kind and helpful! The room was clean, quite nice and cozy, comfortable beds and a decent sized shower! The only downside was the placement of the sink, which was on the other side of the room from the toilet. Other than that, a great stay! I would 100% recommend for a nice affordable place to stay!

It's very close to the Saint Mande Metro which will take you virtually anywhere in Paris with minimal train switches. The hotel is small, but very clean and has *gasp* wifi! A rarity for poor student budget hotels. They have a breakfast option which I recommend (various cheese, breads, cereal, fruit and coffee/juice) to get you started on your day without worry (and also to stow away for the day). The surrounding neighborhood is clean, quiet and safe. I've walked back from the metro with some friends many times and never felt nervous or scared. Takes only one train to Concorde, Lourve, Notre Dame and Champs Elysee. Oh and did I mention one stop away from the Bastille quarter? If I could only count the nights I've stumbled back en état d'ivresse from our nuits de bastille.

Unfortunately for us we were hugely disappointed with the location .. this is not the hotels fault ... actually if the location was ideal I'd have given them 5 stars. We were on a Europe tour from a company called Globus. I love the decor and art ..the staff were nice selection at breakfast and the food from room service was ok. Everything was modern and clean and looked new. But this was much farther from main part of Paris than was acceptable .. it was highly disappointing. This tour group stuck us out of town for all the major cities and we had to manage to get ourselves about .. which is the whole point of going on a tour. .. SO YOU DONT WASTE TIME LOST IN A FOREIGN COUNTRY. We has extended our stay here months ahead to have an extra day .. this was confirmed by the hotel, our travel agent and the Globus people .. but when we checked in .. they had no record of it. They did work it out but the main issue was the location was in walking distance of NOTHING WE WANTED TO SEE thus this would not be a location i would pick again. But the hotel itself was lovely ... as was the staff. it looks like there is a Pullman hotel with a gorgeous view of the Effel tower and I think one near the Arc of Triumph .. Boy either of those locations would have rocked!!!!!!!!!!!! but this location is far from the tourist area .. it's quiet and nice .. but we came to see Paris. So Globus tours is the one at fault ... but if you are likewise wanting to see Paris .. this isn't the hotel for you.

The only thing keeping it back from a 5 Star is the seriously spotty WiFi. Possibly worth the trade off for the impressive sound-blocking walls, but a bit frustrating when you're SO reliant on the hotel WiFi for planning and executing your adventures. But really, WiFi aside, we couldn't have asked for more. The 24 hour desk is a godsend, and the folk who worked there were so nice and patient with Americans. They'll even bring the breakfast to your room at no extra charge! Great street views from the rooms! (Well, ours anyway.) Did I mention the amazing breakfast?

We were on our honeymoon and we stayed for an entire week in this hotel and there were great things about it, some good things about it, and some bad things about it. Great things first: 1) They are indeed across the street from Vandermeersch, a boulangerie known for their kugelhopf (not very French you say? I said that too, actually, while stuffing my face with delicious gooey, sugary, stretchy, ball of heavenly delight... not on the street in public though. I have manners). 2) The Port Doree metro stop is RIGHT OUTSIDE the hotel. Seriously awesome for not having to walk a block or two for a metro stop. 3) The person at the desk always spoke English, if that is important to some of you, especially if you didn't plan your trip that well and have no idea what to do. 4) The park across the street (Bois de Vincennes) is amazing to jog around and chillax in (but if you had the choice of spending a day here, or in front of the Eiffel Tower, which would you choose?) and is really huge and is reminiscent of Central Park, but with less people. Good things: 1) The room, though dormlike, and the smallest of all the rooms we stayed in Europe (We went to Paris, San Sebastian, Barcelona), had a double bed, a tv, internet on the second floor if you didn't bring your own computer, your own bathroom with shower, a closet. The ice machine exists, just in the basement of the hotel, where the soda machine is. Wish they had a fridge in all the rooms to keep some of the delicious things we bought more fresh while we were staying there. Bad: These things aren't entirely the fault of the hotel. 1) It's hella far from the city. This might be okay for those who have already been to Paris before and are okay staying away from the tourists and the sightseeing places but if you are there for the first time and you have to take the metro into the heart of the city every day, it takes a good twenty - forty minutes, depending on where you want to go. The worst thing is coming back home, changing, and wanting to go out again. There were many times we wanted to go out and experience the nightlife but the thought of having to come back home first to shower, change, and go out again on the metro wasn't enticing enough, especially knowing that the metro stops running at midnight. We had to weigh whether or not it was worth taking a cab back home, which would cost us anywhere from 18-30 dollars, depending on where we were. 2) A family of 2 or 3 children were staying upstairs or next to us (unsure of where exactly as we only had the shrill sound of muffled kids screaming, waking us up at the crack ass of dawn to judge their location) for a couple of days. Those rooms are not sound proof, let's just say that. Obviously, this just depends on who stays on your floor when you're there and it's hard to control maniacally screaming kids in any hotel so that's not really their fault but anyway, just know the rooms are not sound proof. 3) Lastly, if you want to eat dinner after 10pm in this area, good luck. The only place that serves dinner that late is Au Metro, and their food is not the best (although apparently their mussels are okay). The takeaway: Good place to stay because it's affordable and if it's not your first time in Paris and you want to avoid all the claustrophobic tourist spots, this might be your spot, especially if you don't mind taking the metro in and out of the city, or you don't have an aggressive or packed schedule where you have to return to your hotel to get something or to change, etc. If you're on your honeymoon, or it's your first time in Paris and you want to see all the sights and you still want to enjoy your nights out on the town and be relatively close so you can come home to relax before going out again, this is not your spot.

This time around, I was very pleased with the Grand hotel... The rooms were on a bit tiny size (thus not good for family of 4 per say) but for a couple it was perfect! The shower was awesome! The sheets and the towels were very clean! Since it was our honeymoon, they send us a white wine to the room along with delicious French chocolate... Yum!!! The staff were very attentive and friendly... Upon our arrival we pre-booked a shuttle to take us to the airport and right at the hour, the shuttle was there with no hassle! The stay included complimentary breakfast and I have to tell you that I enjoyed every bit of it... I haf never seen little individual sized nutella being served! Drlicious bread, fresh fruits, cereal, different jams, pastries, juices, hot drinks, etc..... Everything was delicious!!! The hotel is located very close to the Nation metro station. That means that by just spending about 7.50 euros per day, you would have the luxury of unlimited access to metro service and you can explore the city all day long!!! We booked our package through EUROPEANDESTINATIONS.com and I can't say good enough about it.... Very pleased with everything!!!

Everyone here was kind and helpful, I even got the room I requested, the corner room featured on their site which has 3 balconies! It was exactly what we were looking for and couldn't have been any happier. I highly recommend staying here if you like great staff comfort and convenience. Just a couple of disclaimers. Room does not come with a few things: no iron or ironing board however it is available upon request. There's no mini fridge or safe also but there is a hairdryer in the bathroom with fresh towels and really great soap for the shower and sink. To be honest the rooms are already pretty small adding the fridge and safe isn't necessary taking up more space. These things didn't really matter to us. Overall grade A++ I'd stay here again in a heartbeat.
