Needing a little retail therapy while in one of the world's…read morefashion capitals, Milan, my hubby decided he needed an Italian leather briefcase (since I had just put a dent in our credit cards at some of the up-and-coming designer boutiques that share the block). He was drawn to Piquadro, a little-known brand based in Italy. The sales clerks were quite friendly and spoke good English, happy to answer our questions and show us their merchandise. I was nervous because nothing in the shop had prices listed (that's sort of the norm at designer stores like this). Luckily the wallet my hubby ended up buying was only 89 Euros and the beautiful leather briefcase was about 360 Euros. The designs here are very modern and are crafted with the business traveler in mind. The briefcase he got has pockets for everything (phone, cables, files, iPad, etc.) and has a clever design where it will unzip and fit perfectly over the expandable handle of a typical suitcase. He was sold from the start (and even moreso when researching prices if you wanted to purchase this stuff off of Amazon -- it was twice as expensive and sometimes more). I wasn't too excited with the leather but I am very picky (Balenciaga is my preferred brand, so that tells you what a leather snob I am), but he was happy with the sleek and modern look. The sale was quick and easy and the guy working the store set us up with a VAT tax refund form (but we didn't have time to do all the ridiculous paperwork at the airport before our flight, d'oh)! That would've saved us about $50, oh well. Only other negative was that the store was SUPER hot. What is it with Europeans and heat? Dang I was sweating like crazy in this store.

The briefcase literally just went from my house to my car to my work where it sat for a few hours on the carpet. By the time I got back home the corners looked like they were years old. Piquadro refuses to allow me to return it. I did not pay $500 for a briefcase that deteriorates in one use. Piquadro said replacement only. But I don't want a replacement of this low quality bag. I have been searching for the Wine Journal and I was so happy they still sold it. The associate didn't really share in my excitement because I also loved they stay open late on Sunday nights. The prices are higher than I have seen in other stores (such as Barnes & Nobles who sells them on clearance for more than half the price of what I paid today.) The associate reminded that the the company is from Milan but I was disappointed to see that the journal was designed in Italy but is made in China. The journal is, however, so much nicer than any other that I have seen. It has a hard cover in a protective box, tips to improve your sommelier skills, six sections for different categories of wine, an expandable inner pocket, acid-free paper, themed stickers to customize your journal, and an elastic closure.
