My bf got the short ribs and I got the baby chicken. Neither dishes were that great. Dessert was probably the best part of the meal. I probably would not return. This is NOT your typical restaurant in touristy Aix-en-provence. We sought it out because a website described it as the sort of place that the Aixoise would go. Well, that may be, and I certainly would not blame them, but there were plenty of tourists there when we dined on a weekday. (They basically open at 8pm, a more French dining time, while most establishments in the city accommodate touristic tastes and open as early as 7. In fact, our rather entertaining waiter seemed to speak French, English, and German fluently (to hear him banter with nearby tables) -- although he couldn't manage Mandarin. How to describe the food? "Unpretentious" would be accurate but maybe slightly misleading. It is a fantastic deal for a full meal compared to most sit-down restaurants in Aix. Expect well-executed, classic but un-fussy French cuisine in a pleasant outdoor courtyard. The vibe is fun, even on a less crowded evening. The two of us had the summer special gazpacho (amazing, and quite spicy) and the chicken liver pate (also very good) for entrees. Our main courses were a steak and a fillet of veal, both served with french-fry-like hash browns and haricot verts. The Rue du Prado isn't exactly Chicago's Miracle Mile or even the Elysee of Paris, but it's still quite clean, easy to traverse as one of Marseille's major thoroughfares and chock full of charming restaurants, bistros, restobars and shopping. The street is 3 lanes in each direction but on each side of the street between the first and 2/3 lanes is a promenade where outdoor seating is provided for restaurants that are just open across the first street (which appears to get ever so tangled up in delivery, taxi and lost tourist services but also just as quickly untangles and speeds along). Some of the outdoor dining is as al fresco as it gets, which may include a little car exhaust in your meal; many of the restaurants, however, have divided up their territory with quaint plastic tents that provide either heating or air conditioning, as the weather may be, and also respite from both rain and pollution. I was drawn to Le Patio because of their choices of unique yummy looking pizzas - and pizza is big in southern France with their Italian cousins just over the border and just as many similar toppings (cheese, tomatoes, olives, what more do you need?). I opted for a small personal pie (that was still so abundant I couldn't finish it) that had a beautiful almost burnt crunchy crust, some succulent French sausage, light Emmenteler cheese and my personal favorite if fresh (and they were); anchovies! Little briny beauties of the Mediterranean made this an oh la la sensation with every bite. With a casual pitcher of the ubiquitous rose wine from the Bandol region of the south of France, I was in heaven - and the people watching was just as delicious!

This place is a find and will most certainly be the highlight of any day trip to Bandol, France. Our meal started with a glass of red wine local to the Bandol area, a true delight to those who are discriminating vinophiles like me. Next they brought out a starter that was a seafood pate. My wife's first courses was scallops cooked to perfection in a leek sauce with puff pastries on the side, and mine was an incredible fresh salad with small tasty Mediterranean fish on the side. Maine courses were fish - my wife's a whole broiled fish and mine a dorade fillet. We finished of the meal with the most memorable creme brulee and molten chocolate cake with pistachio ice cream.
