Passed through Quintin a couple of times during our nearby stay. One day we strolled around town and found this boulangerie/patisserie a bit hidden away.
There was a small line with mostly locals. A good sign. Bought some little patisserie, a baguette and a cake (that turned out to be a specialty named "Kouign amann"). Staff friendly and helpful, prices low.
Prices low...but the quality amazingly high! Patisserie was nice and fresh, good homemade whipped cream. Baguette crispy and crunchy, soft inside. As it should be.
But then that special cake: the Kouign amann. Layers of dough, butter and incorporated sugar. Shaped like a cake (gateau). Structure similar to a muffin-shaped, caramelized croissant.
It's crunchy, but soft. Hard to describe, but tastes divine. The sweet sweet sugar, the rich local butter, the handmade puff pastry. Caramelized sugar on top. It's divine...it's heaven. From that moment on one of our new favourite desserts. But hard to get. That's why we came back the next day to get another one to bring with. On that years Road Trip we've only seen it one more time in France. But this one here was definitely better.
Be sure to check out this wonderful patisserie/bakery. And don't walk away without a "Kouign amann". read more
