As expected, I had eaten frites and waffles and was starting to crave a salad. I had done some research, and this place looked ideal-- lots of pitas stuffed with various fillings, including several with veggies. I ordered a cheese and veggie pita, pointed at it on the menu, confirmed that it was vegetarian (there was a green "V" on the menu next to it, which is standard European label for vegetarian food) the waitress looked bored but agreed that yes it was. Service was pretty slow but we had drinks while waiting for our sandwiches. Eventually they came out, and I took a bite...of salad plus meat. I had to spit it out, it was completely disgusting. Yeah, that's the first meat I've had in years and didn't plan on it, so awesome. I know mistakes happen, so took it inside, explained my problem, and the server seemed completely uninterested. I asked them to re-make it without meat, as it says on the menu and they reluctantly agreed. Took another 15 minutes to come out, in the meantime my date had finished his meal. No apology, no money off, not even an offer of a free drink. All the body language was basically saying they thought I was scum for asking them to go to such effort. If they had made the slightest effort, they easily could have saved my opinion, but couldn't be bothered, preferring to gossip with each other near the cash register. Eventual vegetarian option was OK but surprisingly greasy, so didn't end up working out in any way. (ended up going to a grocery store and getting salad there, which was better!) I'm giving it 2* because my date's food was decent and I'm hoping I was just unlucky. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

If you're looking for a place to soak in some of the beautiful Art Nouveau architecture (and people watching) while eating a very affordable meal in the center of Brussels, come here. The tables are tightly packed (but that is common in many European cafes). The pitas were tasty and made quickly. If you get one that's warm, be careful! The cheese is boiling hot. The waiters were patient at understanding my poor, stuttering French. We also hung out for well over three hours at night and were never felt like we were being kicked out because they needed a table. read more

Sunday was food voyeurism day and the gallery district is a restaurant bastion. Le Perroquet greeted me Sunday morning. Their brick facade was a welcome sight along with their indoor and outdoor seating options. Home to much parakeet art, Le Perroquet also sports a pita heavy menu. I had seen pitas advertised at other small restaurants the previous day so my curiosity won. That, their vast selections and good prices. I placed my order when I was informed that the kitchen would open in 10 minutes at 12pm. Being that it's too early for good people watching, you can content yourself with a book, a beer, or the aforementioned parakeet art. Besides the bird lurking amongst the liquor bottles, there are painted wood carvings strewn about. My order was based on two things. First, "Spicy" seemed too typical an order. Second, I felt Middle Earthy. Voila! The Mogador (€7.20)! Blanc de poulet, lardon, raisin sec, oignon cuit, salade mixte. Brimming with small bacon cuts (lardon), seasoned chicken breast (blanc de poulet), yellow raisins, onions (oignon cuit), mixed greens, it was ideal. The smell was amazing, it was savory as it was colorful. Packing a satisfying punch, it was a welcoming way to begin a Sunday morn. Perfect for a hobbit in other words. The Mogador was also accompanied by four sauces. Here's an attempt to describe them - chive yogurt, tangy vinegar (the winning pairing), mediterranean, and 1000 island. I was very happy for these choices and that they were complimentary. Brussels restaurants all had complimentary items as you will discover in my future posts. It's fun discovering countries' restaurant cultures and learning their differences. Just be flexible and ask questions if you're unsure. The service was great here. Prompt attention was given when I arrived and during my meal. Le Perroquet filled up nicely as the afternoon wore on. People shared the wooden tables and chairs with friends or strangers. The outdoor seating slowly filled too. And once more, go where the locals go. read more

Le Perroquet is a lovely pita place with a great selection of pita stuffing. Be ready to get your fingers dirty! The place itself is quite small and the space is used in a very economical way, means you will sit very close to your friends and everybody else. So don't go there if you want to have a quiet time or intimate discussion. But do go there if you don't want to eat alone. During peak times, especially during lunch time/afternoon on weekends, you will hardly find a table. But the turnaround is quick - so if you have time, just wait a bit until someone leaves. The Art Nouveau style is very charming. During summer you can also sit outside. Very relaxing, but again, seats are taken fast... Note: If you a very hungry, or you are a man, you won't be full after just one pita. And that's actually great, because like this, you can try several dishes during one visit. Also, make sure you get a lemonade - the real stuff - so real lemon juice with water and sugar. Yummie! read more

Nice restaurant for a quick small meal. They have many salads and are known for their pita sandwiches. I had the Roma salad with chicken. It had sundries tomatoes and onions and balsamic. It was served with pita bread which was soft and hot. And they give you a lollipop with your bill. What's better than that? read more

In terms of Architecture, this is the best art nouveau restaurant of Brussels! Besides being beautiful, they have a long list of creative pitas and salads at a very affordable price. Whatever pita you ask, you get a 4 pots of sauces. The negative point is that it is always crowded, so you can expect to wait a while before getting a seat. However, it is worth it. read more

A great place to meet up with friends for a drink or a bite. The pitas (which come in all flavor combinations) are awesome and a perfect light dinner or a lunch treat. Authentic art nouveau styled decor makes for an immediate positive impact on arrival. The food is good: very tasty and a dizzying array of pita combinations to chose from, possibly too many. Probably best to go with the recommendations board; we did this and the minced beef with mint was easily the best of our pita choices and I could easily have had a second. On that point, if you tend to have a large appetite you may find it necessary to order additional sides or just order a second pita once your first is done, the food came out quickly enough for us and you can always get stuck into one of the fine beers they serve while you wait. LOVE LOVE LOVE. The staff were incredibly welcoming and very helpful as we only speak English. They took the time to help us through the menu and gave fantastic advice. The food was perfect!!!! Full of flavour, plus four different dressings that added in even more flavour, loads of quality meat, clean and fresh ingredients. It was so good we ordered another one to try a different flavour! As a female athlete 1 would have been enough, but it was too good not to try another...however, I only got through another half. If I wasn't competing then next day I would have happily finished it. The cakes and sweets looked absolutely delicious as well...wish I was able to try some, maybe next time. read more

Great place for a beer in the sun on a summer day. Also have a cheap menue of many choices that i never tried. The view over all of brussels is just up the street next to Palais Justice, it's worth a visit after. There you'll find the best pictures of brussels, much better than manneken pis ;) read more
