The second night we returned we were pleasantly surprised that all English speaking customers had made reservations. The owner/waiter stated he was worried his English may not be good enough, but every table was pleased with him. A lentil purée amuse buche followed by beets cooked in many ways with bacon was mind blowing. The braised pork cheeks with carrot purée and calvados broth made us want to pack the restaurant in our suit case and bring them back home! That was followed by a creme brûlée with lychee fruits and a whipped creme that delighted the taste buds. Top that with a bottle of wine paired for the three course meal by the owner. And all of it cost us €77..... Can't beat that. After our second meal there we realized this was in fact the best food we have had in all of France and made a third reservation! The place is always busy, so the small husband and wife staff are very busy, however attentive to your needs. Traditional to French cuisine they make conversation with you when you order and bring the food, however being as cozy as it is, if you need something they are right there to serve you. This place is such a special niche it is very important to make a reservation or you will miss out on a dinner of a lifetime.

This chateau is charming, quiet, and quaint. Each room is decorated differently. The key you…read morereceive upon check-in is brass key with a heavy brass key chain. You are to return to the front desk each you leave your room, and then you pick up again upon arriving back. The grounds offer plenty of places to have quiet time with your partner. The view is stunning, and there is even a pool just for dipping. The bar experience was amusing, in that the bartender wrote everyone's order in an old school memo pad and had you write your room number. The rooms are a perfect marriage of traditional and modern. The rooms boast original hardware and ornate details from 300-400 years ago. The restaurant is tucked away in the bottom floor of the main building. You can either walk down the stairs or walk around the building. The breakfast had plenty to offer...fresh fruits, charcuterie, fresh breads, egg options, sausage, bacon, yogurt and more. Dinner was a delicious experience. This place is perfect if you're wanting to break away from busy and enjoy the French countryside.

Starter of foie gras was superb, with marinated cherries perched atop small squares of decadence. Main courses were duck and pork tenderloin. The staff here are just fantastic, particularly Vincent in the dining room. His knowledge of wines and local producers is invaluable. Oh, almost forgot - this restaurant is in a magnificent chateau (or rather a castle). As I type this I don't know whether it is being placed as a review of a restaurant or hotel, but the chateau is incredible.

There are exposed beams in the room and the ceiling is slanted so the configuration is a bit unusual. I was worried one of us would hit our head on something at some point but it wasn't an issue. My husband is about 6'3" and was fine. If you're much taller, I'd probably avoid the attic rooms. The hotel is great - probably one of my favorite that I've stayed at. The bed was extremely comfortable and the service was very friendly. There were plenty of in room amenities and it was spacious compared to many other hotels. I was a bit concerned about the friendliness going into our stay due to reviews I'd read. We aren't "fancy" people and I was worried that we would feel out of place. It was definitely a nice hotel and a bit more upscale but I never felt awkward being there. The price was also very good in comparison to other hotels we stayed at (realizing that Paris is obviously more expensive than smaller cities elsewhere) so this felt like a real bargain! 5 stars.
