Some friends went for lunch on Christmas Day and had an 8 course meal (inc wine and coffee). One of the courses was oysters which they chose not to have and instead were given a platter of huge prawns and the lot (4hours worth) cost 28 Euros. Not bad eh! Our lunch with four courses, coffee and wine cost 14 Euros. Well worth a visit.

I stayed at this chateau for a couple nights with my travel partner in early September 2009; my…read morefriend got married close by and Residence Chateau de Terrides was the wedding accommodations and reception location. My French speaking skills are very poor (I took Spanish and German in school), and the staff have limited English (there was one or two daytime staff that were proficient) - we communicated in broken English and French. The location is pretty rural and there wasn't much to do in town. We arrived late by car [driving from Spain, got lost in the Pyrenees with a useless GPS], it was pitch black but we eventually found our way up a hill that the Chateau sits upon after about 20 minutes. There was someone there to check us in late (I had notified them earlier of the possibility). The on-site restaurant had closed but they were able to provide a low key lamb dinner with a bottle of red wine, anyhow. I would say it's a traditional-style chateau, fairly basic [minimal] but accommodating for the needs of my visit. To me, it seemed very big for the number of staff around. At the time of my visit, the bed was relatively low to the floor and somewhat short for my friend (who is 5'9"). They did have Internet access, I can't remember if we paid for it or if it was free (I think it came with the price of the stay). Beautiful views of the French countryside, it was nice to take a walk. The pool seemed to be a fresh water pool and it was very brisk, when I visited. I found it doable in full sun exposure. The wedding reception was held in what seemed to be a wine cellar. It was absolutely beautiful, the food was very good (I believe it was catered by the on-site restaurant), and the music went until almost dawn. There was a continental breakfast in the morning, and I found it filling. I felt it is more for the traveling French tourist and not for a non-French tourist. I also found the prices to be fairly high even with a wedding group 'discount'. Though, I've not stayed at another Chateau before, so I have nothing to compare. Overall, I was satisfied with my stay. My married friend grew up in this town. If I were to visit again, I wouldn't mind staying here again - mainly because I'm not sure where else there is to stay nearby (unless her family would allow me to stay with them).

They also gave us some good information about things to do and see. You must see the 'Som et Lumiere' at Valance if you get the chance. Also the markets at Montcuq and Motaigue de Quercy. It was a great base for us and loads of room to relax with wonderful views. Mat n Joan

There were 9 total customers this Friday night. Service is provided by very friendly Guillern. There's been a heatwave in this part of France for a couple of weeks but we got lucky with the weather. Food quality is 5 star and pricing for what you get is very reasonable. Draft beers and wine, and locally brewed craft beer in bottles. But I just can't give 5 stars to a place with an outhouse... even if it is the nicest outhouse I've ever been in. If you're in the neighborhood September 13, 2025 they're having a band from NOLA (New Orleans Louisiana) but unsure if it's zydeco, jazz or Dixieland. Sorry we've got to miss that.

The hotel is literally in front of Gare de SNCF Cahors which is very convenient. And if you are driving to Hotel de France they offer a parking area outside with a gate or you can pay €12 to park in the garage. The minute you walk into Hotel de France you are greeted by a smile and nice welcome. Maggie is the manager at Hotel de France and works in the afternoon at the front desk and on some mornings, also Angel que works at the front desk and they are both very nice, welcoming and helpful! I stayed in the double bed room on the second floor which had a view of the front road of hotel de France and was good as you couldn't here traffic. The room was a nice size and has been redone. The AC worked great especially that it was hot outside. The room was very clean and smelt great! The bed is comfortable but firm and also something I liked is there were extra pillowed inside the cloth closet which was convenient. I do usually stay in the corner room which offers three beds one bed in a small room at the entrance of the door way and two beds in a speedster room and this room also is bigger and offers a better view and bath tub instead of shower, I usually try to reserve this room when it's available. In the morning breakfast is offered between 7:00 and 9:30, the breakfast is convenient and good for the price which is €8 per a person and free for children. And The Pau au Chocolat and Croissant is made at Hotel de France which is really good. Also Hotel de France has a bar in the lobby and does also offer a small dinner option at night which is pizza.
