Turns out, this was a blessing in disguise for what turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip in France. I've always loved pub and bistro fare and ambiance, and Le Franklin was no exception. Besides the necessary plate of cheese and charcuterie for apero, we ordered exclusively off of the daily specials menu: Châtaigne Veloute (Chestnut Soup) and a cut of steak referred to as a "fuax fillet". The soup is served with a dollop of creme fraiche, while the steak comes with a side of the most delicious thick-cut fries and sautéed veggies. It is difficult with all the goodness, but you must save room for dessert, as there is a seemingly never-ending list of goodies make in-house. We landed on the Profitroles and Tarte Tatin - both of which are difficult to find traditional examples of in the States. Runners up included Mousse au chocolate and a Speculoos cake. Service was excellent and even with all of our indulgences, the bill came out to around $35 a person - more than reasonable.

However, it is definitely overshadowed by the rich flavor of the foie gras. This experience was unforgettable, with our view of Parisian streets on a brisk, April night. He serves what us fresh and does it unassumingly and beautifully. We started with a avocado and shrimp salad and fresh asparagus, then had veal stew and scorpion fish and finished with panna cotta and Apple pie. Lovely staff, who are super friendly. The place looks new and I would love for them to succeed. Make a stop--I promise it's worth your trip and it is leaps and bounds fresher (and cheaper) than a meal you'd find in Paris!
