After arriving in this mystical village of Etretat where my forefathers/ Tom hanks/ Matt Damon have invaded these wonderful beaches with dramatic cliffs and beautiful lefts breaking off the point ( I was tempted to rent a 10-0 single fin and start walking the nose) Popped in for a 7 o'clock dinner. How times have changed. When Tom hanks was asking his mate for cigarettes and spilling blood all over these beaches , now I am sitting down enjoying a 5 star meal. The service was exceptional. ( even by French standards) and the food was extraordinary ( even by Parisian standards)
The main thing is that this place is modestly priced even while being surrounded by overpriced joints with subpar food. It almost seems that they are making a Statement in this small village where Tom hanks's stunt double got off the boat.
The oysters were from Bretagne, they were fresh and subtle served with a nice vinaigrette.
I
Followed that with the entrecôte cooked blue. It was cooked perfectly and oozed with flavor. The steak itself , was like a microcosm of the country. Such a simple entree , yet cooked perfectly and some how, it stood out compared to others I have devoured.
Meanwhile, I was chasing most of this with a nice bottle of Bordeaux. ( I know your supposed to go with white wine when eating oysters, but I couldn't help myself)
Then I followed with the creme Brûlée .
This was also exceptional, light, yet rich, and the glaze over top was perfect.
Colbee has dined in many of fine establishments , but this one is right up there with my 6 star list.
Kind regards,
