Rule one of traveling the french countryside: If you DON'T speak french you're GOING to risk having a rather BAD time. (Even if you do, you still might...)
Having ordered a relatively simple dish, pizza, half vegetarian half meat--I myself being a vegetarian...we can easily say I wouldn't eat or be able to eat meat. My half of the pizza I had ordered, had meat on the whole edge, which is to be quite candid, perfectly normal in this context. This case however, following the vegetarian's creed I did check my side...voilà ham all under the mushrooms, tomatoes, onions, courgettes, and peppers.
The mistake ought to have stopped there. Signalling our server that I had been given a plate that was unacceptable. She explained that it was normal, and would make another to cover this up. However another female stormed out of the kitchen, not at all apologising to make this bad image go away, she then doesn't believe me, the customer. "C'est pas possible!" It's quite possible that a customer would be right if you have two other people attesting to the "impossible" of the improperly prepared plate. She rather embarrassed us in a public manner in front of other patrons. This woman made this into an altercation by asserting that we were wrong in front of the other customers. It's rather humiliating to say the least, not even mentioning there wasn't a "pardon" or "excusez-moi" on their behalf. Even getting back the replacement, it didn't feel friendly, and we were on a accord with the miserable service to leave.
