I visited La Saint George's pre-pandemic while on a business trip to Rennes. I totally enjoyed myself and my meal. The atmosphere was classy for a crepe joint, but probably only average classy ... by French standards. La Saint George was busy on my visit and seemed like a place the locals visited frequently. The cuisine & menu is all about the crepes. The restaurant had French and English menus. My party of 2 Americans and 1 Canadian went for some crepes that were cheeseburger themed. There were cute names for all the crepes. We ordered some cider to go with our meal which was dry and delicious. We had salted caramel dessert crepes that were perfect. However, their selection of galettes was truly unique. This would be my last galette in Rennes, and I had to make it count. Enter Le Giorgio Armani. Four pieces of magret de canard topped with foie gras and a bit of caramelized apple. It was around 17€ and the most expensive thing on the menu. But it was well worth it. I couldn't believe I had four pieces of magret de canard in addition to foie gras. It was like I'd died and gone to heaven. It took me forever to eat because I couldn't stop "Mmmmm" ing and "ooooooh yummmmmm" ing. If you are looking to splurge, this is what you should get. The previous reviewer complained of dry, cold galettes. I didn't have the same experience at all. For dessert, I ordered a speculoos ice cream and Nutella crêpe. It came with a piece of hazelnut chocolate with a flag of Brittany sticking out of it (nice touch!). I loved the speculoos ice cream, but the Nutella crêpe was not particularly noteworthy. Or maybe my expectations were just too high after my galette. Don't come here unless you want something unusual. This was a perfect last crêperie for my time in France.

We arrived around 11:45 am on a Tuesday, when they were just opening up for business (mind you, they open for only 2-hours a day), and we were lucky to be seated as we showed up without a reservation. By 12:30, the restaurant was full. The menu (both in French and English) has four large pages filled with galette and crepe options - either a la carte or included in a menu (all inclusive meal). I wanted to try what they were famous for in Bretagne, so I opted for the Country Menu, which is a deal at 12,90 Euro: Glass of Cider, Galette with ham, egg, and Emmental cheese, Crepe with butter and sugar or honey. This is a mom-and-pop shop, and the husband makes everything fresh to order (including the batter, as we heard him whisking away in the kitchen). Meanwhile, the wife maintains the front of the house, pouring drinks and taking orders. Be forewarned, service is somewhat slow, but that is to be expected with the aforementioned. Galettes are buckwheat crêpes, a signature dish of French Brittany. Using a variety of fresh, high-quality ingredients, Claude quickly and artfully prepared three galettes simultaneously, before my wondering eyes. He expertly ladled, spread, flipped, topped, and folded three galettes all with different fillings. The traditional ham, Emmental cheese, and fried egg is probably the most popular. I savored every bite of my very large and perfect galette with its crispy edges. Chase yours with a glass of cidre made from local apples. No, it's not apple cider. Speaking of apples, my dessert was a luscious apple crêpe with real whipped cream. Great food, generous portions, fair prices, attractive surroundings, attentive service, and Claude's personal touch.
