I am very mixed on this hotel…read more Keep in mind, this hotel is the oldest hotel in Italy and one of the oldest in the world. With that in mind, the rooms show their age and so does the hotel itself. The most amazing thing to do is randomly explore the many floors of the hotel. It is truly a beautiful hotel with so many cool relics everywhere. Now the room: The bed is one of the hardest beds I have ever slept on. There is one air conditioner unit. Which is nice except the rooms are so huge that this little unit will not cool down the whole room. The bathroom door is very weird that there is the possibility of getting accidentally locked inside the bathroom. The shower and sink have very strange water pressure in them. While the decor and size of the room is amazing, it had a lot that was wrong with it. The one great thing was the view overlooking the river. Such a great view! This hotel is centrally located a 15 minute walk from the leaning tower and the train station. It's a very flat and easy walk. Nearby there are so many amazing restaurants to try as well. Added bonus to this hotel is breakfast is free in one of the most beautiful rooms in the hotel. I love this hotel because it gives that nostalgia feeling. I hate this hotel cause of the awful living experience in the rooms.

What if I have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? What if I run into ghosts because this place is old? What if I get transported back in time... or worse yet, to like Narnia or something because I went through the wrong door? No, not on drugs... just a vivid imagination. We get a taxi from the airport... it came to twelve euros, plus an extra charge for baggage. Our friends were really upset in London when they did that. We took an afternoon flight so it's already dark when we get there. Check-in goes fine. They spoke English, but I was all ready with my dictionary... and if need be, I could use the wifi to type phrases into Google Translate. There is an elevator. It was tiny, but it fit my new luggage, me, my hubby and his two backpacks. Our room is off to the corner. This place is beautiful. Our room is really nice. There is a tv that I used a lot while we were in the room. I tried watching some of the Italian channels, but ended up on an English channel and watched a movie. While we did have to use the shared toilet (that was on our floor) and the shared shower on the fourth, I didn't mind it. There was a sink in our room, so we could brush our teeth... that was helpful. Breakfast is really good. There's a cold buffet and a server bringing out coffee. From the cold buffet, I had cereal and buns... there were cheeses and a charcuterie plate... Everything was yummy. I was really happy with the food and the server was really nice... same lady the two mornings we were there. We spent one early evening at the rooftop garden. We got a glass of wine and a bottle of beer delivered... it was a nice place to sit, while I read my Lonely Planet. The location is really central to everything. We walked to everything... the Leaning Tower isn't that far away... the train station wasn't either. We were able to walk there, hauling our luggage to catch our train. Plus, plus, plus... lovely ice cream shop half a block away with really reasonable prices and servings. We also ate at a pizza place in the same square... and had a drink at the coffee bar next to it...

There were a lot of affordable hotels near the train station (which is within walking distance to the Square) so figured it would be an easy walk for our flight to London. It ended up being easier to just take a taxi, with a flat rate of 10,7€. We didn't need to check bags, so headed for security. It took us about 45 minutes to get through security (standard x-ray and luggage checks). A common thing about European airports and train stations is that they don't announce the gate of your departure until at most 60 minutes before scheduled. This was the case for this as well, though experienced travelers knew it would be beyond Immigration control. Sure enough we were told Gate 23, and we went through passport control to leave the EU (just a visual check and stamp from an officer). There is a common waiting area for all international flights, and not much available in terms of food. Since we don't have status with British Airways, figured it might be rough finding overhead space (plus our bags are the US regulations which are technically a couple cm over the length limit). But nobody made a big deal of it (and we made sure the each of us had only two carry-ons plus our coats). We were able to find space before our seats in row 22 (though one of our bags we had to fit sideways since the older Airbus planes don't have the longest bins). We took off about 30 minutes late, and had a uneventful 105 minute flight to Heathrow. The tickets were about 55£ one-way per passenger, which was quite a bit cheaper than the trains we took to get to Italy.

Its so old school you turn in your Key when you leave your room. If you dont mind staying in the busy train station area Hotel La Pace is a great find! You walk in and notice a 50s or early 60s style lobby and decor. The cleaning lady was so helpful and accommodating I tipped her twice. Breakfast comes with the room and it is generous with proteins. Since you are in Emilia Romagna, pastries are available in 20 or more varieties. Shout out to Olan, the waiter at breakfast-- he provided me a cappuccino to go after breakfast and offered pastries to take back to my room. Rates are super reasonable. Super great stay. Will stay here again on a layover when I return to Pisa and Cinque Terre. Whats not to love? End of Yelp.

We were in Pisa for two nights, taking a train from France, and wanted to get a hotel close to the arriving train station. This independent hotel fit the bill, and was about $70 per night, and we prepaid upfront via the Citi travel portal. It is considered a hotel, so has 24 hour manned front desk. Pros - old fashioned hot water heat, usable for both the radiator and towel warmers in bathrooms - free wi-fi - air conditioning - old fashioned bidet in bathroom - nice bath soaps and shampoos - friendly staff, all of whom will try to talk to you in English - they have a culligan water dispense in the front lobby. Cons - it can get noisy outside, with revelers (both young and old) staying up pretty late - the rooms are smaller - windows don't work, with the louvre closed for the season (you can't open it yourself), it is dark in the room all the time, without artificial light. - they still use old-fashioned metal keys for your rooms. they ask that you deposit the key with front desk everytime you leave the hotel.
