The atmosphere was calm and quiet, compared to the hustle and bustle outside. The staff spoke limited English, and the menu was French. The lunch set menu was very reasonable and had good options. Everything was very well seasoned, cooked well, and enjoyable. They also had a large variety of wines available. We would come back again.

Le Zinc is a wonderful wine bar, located on a little tiny street behind the Marche. watching the cars navigate around this street was theater enough for me but... The wines served here are superb. Natural vinification is the norm for everything they pour, and so expect to drink wines from regions you may know, but makers you may not know (unless you frequent Chambers Street Wines, but even so they can't possibly cover the entire gamut!). The wine is great, the space is amazing, the food helps remind you that le diner should come sooner rather than later...and eventually you push off into the twilight, in search of dinner. Enjoy it; it is a great place to sample the finest wines that France has to offer.

Prices are very reasonable for the quality of the food and wine. We first encountered it on a walking tour of Vieux Lyon and happily revisited it twice during our stay.

On my way out of France I wanted to check out the Beaujolais Nouveau and settled on a little town…read morecalled Belleville. It's only 25 minutes north of Lyon and one of the larger towns in Beaujolais, so I figured it would have the most action on the evening of the Nouveau. For those of you unfamiliar with the Beaujolais Nouveau, it's a celebration of the newest vintage of Beaujolais wines made from the Gamay grape. The winemakers have a few short weeks to get these wines made before their release and it's an incredible feat. I was referred to XVIII sur Vins from the town info center as the "place" where I could find the largest selection of Nouveau wines and boy were they right. I was greeted by one of the local winemakers by the name of JB and he was super friendly and the only english speaking Frenchman in the joint. He knew the owner well and took me on a wild ride of the best Beaujolais Nouveau I've ever tasted. Nothing like the crap we get in the United States, these wines are made with pride and are all natural...simply amazing. Do yourself a favor and make a stop here, ask for JB and let the locals take you on a wild ride of their local wines.
