Visiting this country, visiting this village, this once quiet, small village somewhere in the south of France, visiting this memorial massacre site, MADE ME fully understand it all. There are books and movies made about this massacre, but it's not complete until you've been here. It's not complete until you've read the books, and there's a 2007 book that I recommend called Oradour-The Final Verdict: The Anatomy and Aftermath of a Massacre by Douglas W. Hawes. Oradour-sur-Glane is today called a "martyr village;" the ruins have been preserved as a symbol of German barbarity, according to the Official Publication. 642 innocent men, women and children were brutally murdered for no reason at all and the whole town was destroyed by Waffen-SS soldiers in Hitler's elite army.

The chateau has 16 rooms to visit. It includes Banquet Hall, Antechamber, wedding hall, The Luini Room. The wedding hall is where Anne of Brittany got wed. They run the history show of the wedding. The visit also includes the walk at castle surrounding wall. The garden is big at the back of castle. The sacred art room contains Saint Agnes paintings. To visit the castle take 1.5 hours. Parking is in the town and is free. Easy access to the castle.
