When we were saying goodbye to our family, the bus looked like it was ready to board and apparently we were saying goodbye for too long because they filled up the bus and we couldn't get on and had to wait another 20 minutes for the next one. I really appreciate the LAX FlyAway bus service. For 2 years, I used to take Ubers from Porter Ranch to LAX, which cost me $200 round trip every time. Switching to the train from Union Station and then using this bus has saved me a tremendous amount of money. I only discovered this service about six months ago, and honestly, I wish I had known about it two years ago--I was constantly flying in and out of LA and could have saved so much. The buses are always packed to capacity, which just shows how reliable and well-used this service is. Even so, the buses consistently arrive on time. The drivers are excellent--professional, courteous, and always willing to help lift heavy luggage, which makes a huge difference for travelers. One thing I genuinely believe is that there should be some type of tip option or tip jar available. The Flyaway is one of the easiest way to travel to LAX. There's no getting lost. There is parking or you can get dropped off. Nothing beats a ride to the airport like $12.75 each way. I noticed that no free WiFi is available on the bus. Buses run every 15 minutes during rush hour and every half hour thereafter. The bus fares may be paid as you enter via credit card scanner. The terminal is right next to a public paid multistory parking garage. So, for a short trip, it may be wise to use the garage as well. Driver of the bus is friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. 9/4/2025 - The LAX FlyAway bus was leaving at 7:22 AM in Van Nuys and arrived at the terminal 1 at 8:38 AM, but arrived at the terminal 4 and 6 at 8:44 AM and 8:52 AM, respectively. Thanks for the Globe Entrance privileges, I got the TSA PRECHK at the counter right away, and proceed to the TSA check in, luckily, I have no luggage to be checked in. Arrived at the gate 15 minutes before the scheduled boarding will begin - I must abandon my planned airport lounge access this time! Lesson learned: Give at least 3 hours and 30 minutes to 4 hours ahead of your scheduled flight at the Flyaway Terminal to ensure you will not miss a flight! read more

I've used this service many times and sometimes I leave my car at their covered parking for a few dollars per day; it's a safe and secure way to up the comfort and convenience of travel and access to LAX. The staff takes care of everything for a mere inexpensive 12.95 one way to LAX. The bus is clean and air-conditioned or heated for that matter and the driver is careful in navigating the busy and congested freeways, and fast too, at the same time. They also unload your luggage with care and attention while they drop you off exactly at the terminal of your airline's gate. One bad experience on an international trip, the driver unloaded my luggage at the wrong gate. Using my Apple Tag, I notified him to go back and was able to retrieve my luggage at the wrong gate! After retrieving the luggage I was able to board and fly to Finland for my U.S. Fulbright Scholarship a few years back. read more

Good luck! You may as well start walking to the ride share lot and forget about your prepaid flyaway ticket. Their time chart means nothing. You'll wait over thirty minutes to watch a Van Nuys bus just drive by you without even stopping. Small broken old seats if you ever do get your bus. Sure it's cheap. But you're gonna think about that twelve dollars the entire time you're waiting and riding and considering how you could have arrived to Van Nuys before your bus ever even showed up at the terminal. Oh and you can ignore their having wifi if you're hoping you'll get work done. I've rode them about ten times and not once was wifi reliable enough to do any work. Maybe you can surf social media or something. But any website that requires security will drop your connection multiple times in that hour to and from LAX. read more

I've been using the lax flyaway for years and it is such a godsend for those who live locally in the SFV. They have an alternative location at Union Station and it helps if you don't want to pay the hefty parking fees at LAX. The rates are now $12.75 each way but they have a bus every 20 minutes except between 12-3 AM where it's only 1 per hour (though uber prices are usually not that bad if you need to take that option instead.) I've found that even upon returning from LAX, I've never had to wait an obscenely long time for a bus. Actually, I've been quite fortunate and have never had to wait more than 5 minutes except one time where it actually did take 15 minutes. One thing to keep in mind though is that it does stop at every single terminal which can take about 20 minutes total for those going home. The station is clean with functional bathrooms. There is also a multi level covered parking garage for your convenience. You can also pay for your parking space in advance if you prefer not to do so at the gate. (29/50-2025) read more

The flyaway is a great idea that can be convenient and relieve stress. However it can be unpredictable and timely. One time, around the holidays it was madness. The lines were out the door. We left and went to the airport and still missed our flight. I never travel around the holidays so I suppose I was unprepared for that. But it is usually easy. It does add a little extra time to your trip but if you plan accordingly it'll make your travel experience less stressful. Also knowing your car is in the parking structure for reasonable prices compared to near the airport is comforting. read more

The Flyaway bus from Van Nuys to LAX is one of the greatest gifts we have from the San Fernando Valley. Their timings the schedule, the professionalism of the drivers is exemplary. There's always the standard ride and they do it pretty fast. You're not on the bus more than 30 to 40 minutes, really even during rush times, maybe stretch by another 10 minutes. But the way you judge a business is if they can handle high pressure and adversity. I experienced this scenario on my last trip. So everything was smooth because it was a Sunday night but when we got close to the airport and were on the last stretch, on Sepulveda, it was massive gridlock. Think about it, like a parking lot. Just alternating red lights and green traffic lights but nothing was moving. Just a stand still. The driver displayed an amazing ability to handle the frustration of people cutting off the bus not obeying traffic laws. We finally got to LAX, but after over two hours, it's never been that long. A lot of people on the bus missed their flights. On the road, you could see people getting out of their cars ....I mean and walking running with bags to catch their flights. I haven't seen so much chaos in a very long time. Once again, compliments to Flyaway bus. As for me, I survived the ordeal. I always like to go to the airport way ahead of time and it really paid off this time. So my strategy works and this time, it did in triumphant fashion. read more

11/18/25- buses do not run on schedule, so plan to have more flexibility in your schedule if using this service. The staff at the Van Nuys station seemingly has no accountability or supervision, and have been generally apathetic based on my prior visits. Any questions or concerns are directed to an 800 number, who in turn tells you to email someone else. Other than schedule and service issues, the buses are modern but not very clean and there appears to be no cleaning done between shuttle runs leading to food and greasy hand prints on seats and common touch surfaces. The LAX FlyAway is generally awesome and I am glad it is an option for those who need to get to the San Fernando Valley or surrounding areas. You get dropped off and picked up right at the terminal curb so it's actually more convenient than Uber (and cheaper too). The bus is able to use express lanes too so it should be just as fast if not faster than driving aside from having to stop at previous terminals for drop off (so if you aren't in the first few, budget time for this although they do ask in advance and only stop at ones that are needed so that is good and saves time). My experience going from Van Nuys to LAX has been great. Bus is usually early so you can get on, there is a waiting area if needed, no issues. It seems to sometimes leave slightly early though so maybe get there 10 minutes or something before your departure time if you need to leave at a specific time. Also I would suggest buying tickets in the app more convenient and you can do so in advance. Going from LAX to Van Nuys is mixed. On a recent trip, I had to wait over an hour until a bus came Instead of them coming every 20 minutes (1 bus that had empty seats even passed us and we didn't know why). Apparently this happens during busy times especially if you are some of the later terminals. My suggestion would be to walk to an earlier terminal if you are able to (there are shortcuts from 7 to 1 and 6 to 2 and so on I believe) or just be ok with waiting and not depend on the supposed bus times. I've also taken the bus at times when it did show up as expected (less busy times I believe) so I think it just depends. The other thing I would say is depending on where you are going, the Uber fares from Van Nuys bus terminal to final destination were almost the same as from LAX to final destination when I checked despite the time of travel being more than twice as much from LAX. No idea why that is the case but I would just double check that the Flyaway will actually be the best option for you given that and the ticket cost of ~$13. Or you can park at the Flyaway lot which used to be a huge bargain but is still not terrible at ~$6 a day and quite convenient. read more

I usually appreciate the convenience of the Van Nuys FlyAway, but my recent experience was disappointing. The driver played loud country music followed by religious talk radio for much of the ride. In a shared public transportation setting, it feels unprofessional and inconsiderate to subject passengers to personal entertainment choices like that. Wow what a very convenient way to head back to the Valley area from LAX. I may have to keep this method for future use. It was very easy to get into the bus and settle in thanks to our driver. This was recommended by a friend of mine and sadly it used to be $10, but it has increased to $12.75 as of early July 2025. The bus ride was smooth and quick-- taking the carpool lane in the freeway and zooming easily since we were going through the empty July 4th traffic of LA. I am quite curious to see how the experience would be on busier days. I recommend using the Transit app (used for general Metro and bus routes too) to find the bus location because it left 6 minutes earlier than the scheduled time on the LAX terminal pillars. After leaving the terminals, we went straight to Van Nuys and the interior was comfortable enough. The seats were padded well, the air circulation was alright, and the windows were large. We exited easily and the place has parking pay machines so you could leave your car here during your trip. We opted for Uber and there was a super quick pickup so I'm happy there's several drivers that await here because we got home so comfortably that night. The concept of taking a shuttle to the airport is a lifesaver. Also an uber but this was cheaper...lol... It's so easy from here. They have a parking structure as well as a lot for overnight parking or as long as you need it. The price is way more affordable compared to the lots near the airport. It's open 24 hours and the shuttle runs on a schedule. We've taken it the last few times super early. Which was still pretty packed even for 4:30 in the morning. Bus runs every half hour that early. Maybe faster during the day. Tickets are purchased on the apps, about 10.00 one way per person. When it's boarding time, it's single file to make it easier and more manageable instead of everyone rushing in at the same time. They take your bag for you to store on the bus and arrange it by what airline and terminal you are leaving. Then you get on the bus. Two seats per row and seats recline. Tip your driver as it common decency as they are taking you to your destination. read more

I have taken the flyaway several times with no problems, you just have to time yourself to what time you want to arrive to LAX, then get to the flyaway to get in line. This past week I took the flyaway with a friend so we could head to LAX not to fly, but to go to a conference in a nearby hotel. I didn't know they had removed the ticket purchase machines and now you can just tap your credit card or your phone to get on the bus. This makes it way easier in my opinion taking away the hassle of worrying about buying a ticket. There was no stress, we arrived to the flyaway, parked the car (which later we found out is also a great deal only $6 for the day for parking) at one of the higher levels because the lower levels are packed with cars, and then headed over to the bus line. Once on the bus we just relaxed and didn't have to be stressed about traffic. We got off the bus when we arrived and were able to head down to the shuttles to take us to the conference. Then on the way home, super easy to get back onto the flyaway and go home. Soooo convenient and the fact that it runs in 20 minute intervals makes it all that much better! The buses are clean, and they also have seatbelts if you would like to wear one (which I do). read more

I was at the flyaway at 9:57 and their policy is to close the doors at 9:58. You could tell they had closed it much sooner since they were all in the booth. They said the bus is closed and that's it. Yes I should have gotten there sooner but what should have taken me an hour drive to get there took over 2 and half hours due to accidents. The other bus did not Leave until 10:31 because the driver had to keep rebooting the system it does not take Disney cards. We'll see if I miss my flight. Just ridiculous that their employees are not being made to follow their own policy! Will just drive down and do the parking spot anyway since last time I tried to get in the bus coming back could not get on had to wait for another bus. read more

I miss the Hollywood location for Flyaway that they got rid of back in 2020. Although I only used it once, it was extremely convenient at the time since I was only a few blocks away off of Selma, and it was a much smaller shuttle than the one I would be taking. During 2020, I think they shut a lot of their locations down, but the downtown and Van Nuys still stands. Wasn't too keen about driving out this way for the airport transportation but after checking out prices for Parking Spot and other closer options, Flyaway did seem to be the better option cost-wise. I needed five days, so at $6/per day in a covered garage (no additional cost for covered here) with the round-trip actual Flyaway bus being $19 ($9.50 per trip), this came to a shade under $50. One thing I was concerned about was my return flight; the airline is notorious for being late-and this was my first time flying them-so my arrival at LAX being at 11:10p had me somewhat concerned. Just to be safe, I checked out the facility the day before, seeing how things went, and it was simple to figure everything out. I had a nice guy help me out too, which certainly made things easier. Considering I had to be there around 3:30a, I knew I wasn't going to be operating at 100%, so I'm glad I made this preliminary visit. Parking was saved in my wallet, and I barely brought it up to my open window and it let me through. Although there were a lot of cars, there were plenty of spots to be found, so I had a very short walk into the station. People were already in there, some of them lining up. Bus was on time, we were asked what terminal, and our bags were tagged accordingly underneath. You then scan your ticket (off of the Flyaway app) before boarding. I'm pretty sure you can print this out too if you'd rather have a paper copy. Ride was smooth and we made it with plenty of time to spare. They drop you right off at your terminal, and you go right in. They made it so easy! Upon returning, the bus was about 10 minutes late, so I was getting a little worried the parking would have to be extended another day, but we made it. The sole issue I had was leaving the garage; the reader didn't get my exit ticket from my wallet and I had to call for help. Grateful someone was there, I was informed that I had chosen the wrong parking (?) but then they asked me to read off my reservation # which alleviated all issues. That was the only glitch I had but it was resolved quickly, and I wasn't holding anyone up. Patience is key! If you don't want to park and are lucky to have someone drop off/pick up, you can certainly still use Flyaway since there is an outdoor parking waiting area for those who do so. This is also free. Even though it 's far for some, I would definitely recommend Flyaway Van Nuys to anyone who wants a reasonable trip to LAX. read more

Complete disaster if you arrive at Terminals 4-7. I was at T-6 and waited 80 minutes as FIVE Van Nuys FlyAway buses rolled by without stopping. These buses all have radios and central dispatch. At least one of those five could have reported that there was a load balancing issue ( like having alternate buses skip T1-T3 and Bradley and start with the south side terminals) Clowns! read more

The flyaway has gotten so incredibly bad. Their buses can be so off schedule (by an hour or more). I just experienced that where I had to take an Uber instead. Then I had to wait for over an hour at the airport where 2 buses passed us without picking up any additional passengers from the terminal we were at. I suggest if you fly into terminal 7 to just walk to terminal 1 if you want to take the Flyaway. But really the whole thing is so bad if you have an alternative I would suggest taking it. I've heard of bus drivers intentionally not loading their bus all the way which puts people out and is really not proper. I hope they can get their act together! read more

I haven't been on a fly away in years so when I got on this one to and from the airport it literally flew away down the 405. Legit they were hauling some butt, which makes sense now why the bus has seatbelts. The lady driving the 11pm one hopped a curb and wouldn't let anyone get in front of her when we were on the street.. a little reckless as a bus driver. The one coming back he was a little more chill but that's prolly cause we got stuck in Friday night traffic. Anyways it's a bus to take so you can avoid lax traffic esp if you don't live near the airport. It's also $10 to ride it now and you have to tap your card to pay before you enter the seats. I've used this service many times and have found it to be great, usually. Here's the problem, I'm watching my family move from gate 7 to 6 then 5 and now 4. All in attempt to get on a bus. If you're flying United it awful. Buses go right past you. Since this happens all the time, why not go past gates 2-4 and pick up some of those people waiting at the end? I don't understand why this should be such a problem. The parking lot and fees are very reasonable and the buses leave on time to get you there. If you could just remember there's 7, I repeat 7 gates. read more

Heads Up if You're Relying on FlyAway from LAX to Van Nuys: Don't be in a rush--twice now, I've had to wait over two hours because the buses were either full or didn't show up. Despite the billboard saying buses run every 20 minutes, that's simply not true. With over 40 people waiting and many leaving frustrated, it's clear the demand is there--yet the service isn't. If this is a city-funded venture, it's another example of the city failing to meet the needs of its residents. Common sense says: if the buses are full, add more buses. Don't be that person asking your loved ones to take you to LAX. Instead take advantage of the Flyaway! The price is reasonable, and it's convenient to get to LAX with little hassle. Here are my tips: - Buy your ticket in advance to save some time. But DON'T activate it until it's time for you to get on the bus. Tickets are $12.75. - Arrive early. Buses leave every 30 minutes (except in the wee hours of the morning then it's every hour) but if the bus is full you're out of luck. During no busy times I'd say get there at least 30 minutes before the shuttle you'd like to take. During busier times, give yourself an hour. - Parking is a reasonable $6 per day with a 7 day limit. But the parking lot can get full. So you might want to make a reservation beforehand to secure your spot. Otherwise you may have to park on a street nearby and walk over. - Give your self plenty of time to get through LAX. The bus stops at each terminal. If you're at a later terminal, it could take 30 minutes or so to get through LAX before you can get off. So plan accordingly. - When coming home, you may need to wait to get back on a bus if they are full. So don't expect to get right on every time. If you keep those things in mind you should have a nice trip using the flyway. read more

Some hours are very busy and you'll have to wait for the next bus (for example, Mondays around 6 am) so plan ahead.
