1. Can't get anybody on the phone or leave voicemail. This is a problem for dentistry--you may have a serious problem and need a prompt appointment. 2. But the dentist himself is quite competent. Not perfect, though. Office and staff are clean and pleasant. 3. Also, never make an appointment for a Monday morning in the winter. Line item details: 1. They're not answering their phone. And the message you get is: this is a remote location, we don't monitor voice mail, call main number 757-424-3555. If this is the number you called (It was. multiple tries) then we're on the phone or away from our desks. We look forward to speaking with you. (Doesn't seem true to me ...) 2. He and staff are always pleasant, if you can manage to get an appointment. He doesn't have the best injection technique, however. More unpleasant than it needs to be. For one thing, he yanks your cheek around instead of buying a vibrator. 3. Speaking of too cheap to buy equipment --- You'll freeze your wisdom teeth off on a Monday when it's cold outside. The heat has been off all weekend, and they won't install a programmable thermostat, or have someone come in early to warm the place. read more

Scared no more!! At least until I go back.. But that has nothing to do with Dr. Leibowitz's awesomeness and everything to do with me being irrationally terrified of going to the dentist. I came here a few years back for a broken tooth. Since I am amazing at avoiding anything doctor related, it got worse. Shocker. Luckily for me, it was the last one in the back (not wisdom) so the best course was to extract it. And extracted it was! Fast forward to now. I really haven't changed much when it comes to my doctor avoidance, but yet again, I've had a broken tooth for a while and it finally got to the point of "waking me up at night for several nights" type of pain. So, with hesitation I went in. Side note - they were amazing enough to squeeze me in the same day, and trust me, when I went in - they were plenty busy! I am so glad I did. Not only was I reminded of how great, nice, and patient the entire staff is - but Dr. Leibowitz dealt with my nervous non-stop talk in a pretty good humorous way. As in, first thing I told him was I already didn't like him.. Shame on me. And boy, was I proven wrong in a matter of minutes. Now for the actual dentistry - after the anesthesia, it was pretty quick and painless. One tooth extraction and one tooth filling done in no time. I literally asked if that was it, since I anxiously anticipate long and painful visits in my mind - it's a gift, I know. To my most positive surprise, that really was it. I'm not gonna lie and say that I now loveee going to the dentist, but I am certainly more relaxed and willing to go periodically, without having to wait until I can't sleep from a toothache. My family moved to Virginia Beach from Vietnam several years ago. They had a terrible experience with a dentist and were so afraid to go to a dentist in the US. I like this office, the staff is very friendly and communicative. Currently the practice is shifting from the father, who's retiring, to the son taking over. I guess I'm technically the son's patient, but recently had an appointment with the dad for a filling. Both doctors are very friendly and professional. I do have a bit of a preference for the son, because he seems to be a bit more gentile. My appointment was on Tuesday, got a filling and temporary crown done, and my mouth is still really swollen and sore. I've seen probably close to 20 different other dentist through my time in the navy, and prior to, and I've had a total of 2 root canals, and probably 15 fillings done. This was one of the most painful. Whether it was the area, or I wasn't taking the numbing properly. The pressure from the drill actually caused me pain. The dad gave me plenty of shots, but this one was still very painful. It did make me a little anxious how fast he was working, because I was told that the filling they were doing was very close to the nerve, it may need to be another root canal. I'm also only 25, brush and floss at least twice a day, but have low blood sugar, so I do eat more sugar than most. But knowing how close this cavity was to the nerve, as he was moving pretty fast, combined with the pressure, it did make me nervous they were going to bust through the nerve. All in all, the office staff is great, thoughtful, informative, modern. The son has a very cautious approach, which I appreciate. I would rather have a dentist that takes care of things BEFORE they become big problems, than doing root canal after root canal. I also have a cross bite so it's always challenging to get a good bite test after dental work. The dad had no issue, you can definitely see his experience in his work. Definitely going back, have three appointments scheduled currently I believe. Two more for fillings and another cleaning set out in January. read more

My family started going to Dr. Leibowitz in the middle of my teenage years and I can honestly say he is the best dentist I have ever been to. The staff is friendly and greets you as you walk in. The waiting room is warm and cozy which helps defeat those nervous feelings you always get when going to the dentist. They have an Xbox off to the side of the waiting room which is where you will find my brother. Dr. Leibowitz's office also has private rooms in the back that have televisions so you can pick a channel and relax while they work on your teeth. I always have the same dental assistant and she always remembers my name. She is the sweetest and makes the visit fun with conversation. Finally Dr. Leibowitz is just great. I have never seen him without a smile and he does his best to make potential painful procedures comfortable. For example whenever I have to get a shot Dr. Leibowitz grabs my cheeks and gently shakes it so I hardly feel a thing. I have been Dr Leibowitz's patient for over 30 years and have experienced his genuine warmth, unequaled professionalism, and genuine caring. He has a highly trained staff that is so organized that one usually waits no more than 3 minutes to be seen. His staff goes about cleaning teeth, doing x-rays, and giving pointers on improved dental hygiene. Dr. Leibowitz checks his staff's work and gives time to build/maintain rapport with each patient. Usually, the appointment concludes in just under an hour (depending on the complexity of the dental procedure performed). Through the years, Dr Leibowitz has done my restorations (fillings) and more than a couple root canals and I can candidly proclaim that he not only believes in pain-free dentistry, he also practices it. The waiting area is patient friendly as well and there is a special place for little kids to play. When I walk in for an appointment, I feel at home; there is no worry that a visit to Dr Leibowitz will cause a blood pressure spike as he is 'laid back' and his staff is most cordial. There simply is no need to dread going to his office for an appointment because he has put much thought in designing cubicles for maximum efficiency (to facilitate patient flow) and yet to be warm and inviting. My son has been Dr Leibowitz's patient as well and he has seen my son through fillings, braces and now, my son is unemployed. Dr Leibowitz has constructed an easier payback plan, that has allowed my son the dignity of reimbursement for professional services rendered with realistic, and flexible terms. I like to think that speaks volumes of his human warmth and sensitivity; it also speaks to the solid character and integrity of the man. It's not like me to leave a review but I must because if this ever happens to anyone, this is the place to go: Two years ago, I broke my front tooth in half after falling face first on concrete. It was as painful as I can imagine breaking a tooth to be. The biggest problem was not having dental coverage. So I called and explained my situation. I cant remember the name of the girl on the phone but she was so kind. She listened to my situation and asked questions for better understanding. She told me about my options and got me in the next day. Dr. Leibowitz was also awesome as well. He is effective and efficient and can multitask without compromising attention. One other thing that stuck out was the fact the numbing shot didnt hurt (Minor in comparison to a broken tooth but still important!). The total cost was below what I was expecting, so I didnt leave broke (I'm a student :(. ). The tooth has held up to this date, without problem and is able to function somewhat as a normal tooth in such a high bite pressure area. Not testing my luck though. Being from DC area, I looked up Doctor Leibowitz's office via our favorite search engine "Yelp" and am pleasantly writing a great review of my experience. I went in for a cleaning earlier this afternoon and enjoyed my experience from start to finish. Staff is very friendly and has been with the practice for a long time, which means a lot of good things for Dr. Leibowitz. I went to Dr. Leibowitz for a bonding procedure that had been done over 13 years ago. He assured me he could do the bonding over without any problems. It was a solution to my mother taking tetracycline while pregnant which caused deep staining of the teeth. He tried to convince me to do porcelain veneers which was very costly. I had bonding before and did not have veneers so I was comfortable with that. I should have known something was wrong when he suggested bleaching first. Bleaching would not be suitable due to the deep staining thru the teeth. No other dentist had ever told me or suggested it. Nevertheless I went with his "expert advice." He took off the prior bonding and left me with nothing on my teeth for over a month (embarrassed to open my mouth) while steadily convincing me to continue bleaching. After months he did his bonding work. My teeth looked worst than they did before he took off the original bonding. He had matched the yellow staining when I thought they would be whiter like they were. I literally cried in the seat with what I saw as the end result. I left that day hurt and within less than 5 minutes the front corner of one of my teeth chipped off. I had to go back and he simply said that happens. Never had this happened before. After two days I called back and complained. I was scheduled another appointment and when I went in he was a changed man. Cocky, arrogant and agitated are mere words to describe his character. He flatly didnt think nothing was wrong with my teeth and said it was the shape of my mouth that caused my dissatisfaction. Shape of my mouth? He became upset and said he would do it again but that was it!!!! I was at his mercy and wanted to get them right. My follow-up appointment was even worst. I went to 3 other dentist in the area who saw and agreed the work had to be done over. But....he had maxed out my insurance plan with all his procedures. I complained and he did not want to help with the cost. Next step court.... I learnt he had no problem getting judgements for his work not paid for but he would not pay for a botched up job he had done. Because I didnt have an expert dentist on my behalf in court the judge HAD to rule in his favor. Try taking a doctor to court without a doctor...you might as well stay home. I had to wait until my dental benefits were available again to get the proper work done. I now have a beautiful set of bonded teeth. This is the worst dentist in the area as far as I am concerned and I definitely would not suggest anyone go for cosmetic procedures or any procedures. I lived shamefully embarrassed for over a year. The staff was sympathetic and felt bad but he simply didnt care. No one should have to endure this treatment. He took advantage of my health benefits and out of pocket expenses. read more

After years of seeing multiple different dentists (as well as working for some) I wish Dr. Leibowitz was the dentist I saw as a kid and kept for years!! DR. Leibowitz fixed my gaps, which I had already spent a fortune on trying to do with braces, adjusted my chipped teeth...I mean just absolutely amazing and Dr. Leibowitz was done in no time! Dr. Leibowitz's staff is amazing too! The front desk is jovial, sweet, attentive and answer all of your questions! The young lady who cleaned my teeth (Tiffany) did an amazing job and I felt like I have known her for years! Usually, with cleanings I wince and feel sensitivity and pain BUT, with Tiffany I didn't and my teeth felt SUPER CLEAN!!! All nice and smooth!!! The young ladies that assisted Dr. Leibowitz...they are all super sweetness, knowledgeable! No wonder Dr. Leibowitz is so AWESOME because he has ROCKSTAR EMPLOYEES!!! No need to look any further for a good reliable competent dentist and staff with Dr Leibowitz's office!!! Oh, and Dr. Leibowitz even made me a night guard that I DO NOT TAKE OUT AT NIGHT!!!
